I agree, excepts that the looks already look dated (especially the interior) and the questioning reliabilty issue should be importent for a owner. Then the wing... What where they thinking? Apart from that, I like the car a lot :D
Johan Littorin If you're questioning reliability, I don't think this segment is the best one to be in. Neither Jaguar, Audi, BMW nor Mercedes have epic reliability. Now obviousl there are variations between them, but one would be kind of silly to buy a BMW over a Jag for reliability purposes.
The XF-RS is the troll of super luxury saloons. It doesn't take things seriously. It doesn't follow the rules. It causes disruption and chaos. And it chuckles "lol" with its exhaust pipes. This isn't for someone who takes life and driving too seriously. I.E. M5 and other German car owners. This is for the people who wants to have a little chuckle when they put their foot down. As much as I hate using this term. This is the "yolo" car, of luxury sports cars. This is the car the guy with the "Zero F@#ks Given" RX7 would be driving if he won the lottery. Might as well be blasting the "Trololo" song out the speakers while driving it. Not to mention, it's BRITISH! That's why I would take this over an M5, or a RS7 or an E63 AMG.
I shouldn't have assumed people would realize that I drive these cars for a week and my fuel economy is an average over the entire week. It was. In fact, at the time I quoted the number, I hadn't done a single burnout yet.
Well, even driving it for a week and then doing massive burnouts and revving it to the limit for only an hour, will in fact change your fuel consumption massively.. Which you should know, as you drive a lot right? But if at that moment, you hadn't done all of this, yeah okay than it's pretty bad^^
I rarely say this about Matt but he's simply wrong about this car. It's awesome! 1) Don't do burnouts all day and complain about MPG. 2) The reason people wouldn't buy an F-type is because they have more than just a jacket to carry with them 3) The wing is functional and looks great. 4) While the interior might not be that updated, it's clean and looks great. (I'll even accept the interior as a 'bad thing'. The car still stands on it's own.) 5) FUCK BMW and AUDI for 5 fucking minutes. Why must everyone suck their dicks all the time? BTW, I'm an American muscle car kind of guy (I have a '65 Mustang Fastback (restomod). So don't go thinking that I love Jaguar. Matt was simply wrong here.
3) The wing looks like someone pooped in their hand and smeared it all over the stall door in an attempt to be artistic. 5) They're the go-to for top dollar sports sedans. They're the benchmark. They're honestly what most people are trying to live up to.
I`m with you 98% (theres no way I`d be ticking the options box for that spoiler). And for those slagging the mpg figures, he would have been ragging it (its hard not to!), but in normal life (provided you can resist the temptation to keep booting it) you can expect 18mpg in town & 30mpg on a long motorway run.
The e63s w212 is also the bett3r car, uk version is rwd and stock 540 wheel horsepower , just a more special product but nothing wrong with the jag if you want it
Awesome review. I've gotta say Matt when I first saw you (on /Drive i think it was) I wasn't really sold, but your consistent and generally unbiased content really speaks for itself. You clearly are a genuine car guy. I just wanted to say that I appreciate the real effort and personality you put into every single video. Thanks man!
Matt is so wrong. It is now 2023. That Xfrs is hard to find. Has held is value well, and is starting yo appreciate in price. Meanwhile, rs7 and m5 are falling apart, and engines grenading
"I have never seen another car that can turn tyre into blinding toxic smoke quite so quickly." That's because you don't live in Australia mate and... you rip a weak skid.
I bought the xfrs in blue and I could not have any of the boring offings from crappy bmw and stupid benz or souless audi. I had the choice to buy a car slower than all of those, but with more soul than all of them combined. The exhaust alone is worth half the price of the car. Mine was pushing to 110,000 dollars and it was worth every cent. I own a benz so I know more gagets wont help. I leave you with this, the e63, m5, rs7, m6 gran coupe, cts v, and the xfrs are all in the super sedan category, but which one actually looks mad enough to be a super sedan? Jaguar has made the exterior look very different from standard models, this is not the case for the others, see if you can find the differences between an e63 amg and a e350 amg package.
I respect the fact that you encourage people to buy cars like this. This XF-RS and various other cars are not for everyone, nor they excel in their respective markets against competitors, but they set an example as being and offering something different, with more emphasis on personality, passion, and style. Cars like this should exist, otherwise car world will become monochrome.
thanks to fast and the furious you are apparently not allowed to like a wing or spoiler of any kind even if its functional...and bottom line ,who care that the average person who cant even begin to afford the carbon fiber wing are starring at it....matt ,your a car guy and i expected more from you.. why dont you look at the car like it is its own entity...why must everything be like everything else. i like that jaguar is doing its own thing unlike mercedes ,bmw and audi ,who now have over 10 models of the same basic boring design of a vehicle... you never mention the one thing this car does better is its looks. it different looking than the rest of the german grey cars, and thats refreshing , and maybe the guy buys this over the f-type for the same reason the guy buys the panamerica, because he has a family and needs four doors ,but still wants a little speed in his life.
As I said on someone elses video earlier: "German car fanboys are always predictable, always have similar personalities, always wanna shout about figures from the rooftops, always feel the need to prove they are superior.. Doesnt matter if its Audi, BMW, Merc, VW, whatever, they are always the same. Trying to compare an Audi with a Jaguar is like comparing crappy German techno music with soul or classical, they arent designed to appeal to the same people. Germans, like the Japanese, have no concept of soul or character.. Both countries yearn to understand & replicate it, but ultimately their overriding desire for figures & clinical efficiency, always stops them dead in their tracks, its like trying to explain the concept of love to a robot. German car fanboys will never understand Jaguars, & to be honest, I dont want them to.."
Exactly. A BMW is like an accountant, very efficient and practical but you just know that he goes home at night and works on his stamp collection. Simply put its a good car when you look at the numbers but it has as much soul as a potato. Sports cars are supposed to get you excited, who cares if a BMW is 1 second faster around some racetrack.
Matt: Jaguar has a spoiler delete option on the cars which replaces it with a lip spoiler on the deck. I also highly disagree with your comments about the interior. I have a 2012 XF 5.0 and people are blown away by how simple, yet gorgeous it is inside. It's sophisticated without smothering you with needless buttons and lights that cars like my old 2012 A6 3.0T were absolutely ridden with. Also, why would someone looking at spending $100K on a Jaguar even cross shop an XF and an F-Type? If the XFRS isn't their cup of tea, they can just get a supercharged XJ for $90K, and you can't scoff at the XJ because it handles like a champ and weighs 30lbs less than an XF. If a consumer is looking for something capable of carrying 4 people with a decent trunk, the XKR is another fantastic option at $97.5K. No doubt the F-Type R is the best Jaguar you can buy, but it's not the proper option for a potential XFRS shopper.
The interior is nice, which is exactly what I said about it six years ago, when it had.... exactly the same interior it does now. There's nothing wrong with it, it's just old as fuck and everyone else has moved on.
Not really. If you want to talk old as fuck, look at Audi's interiors on the Q5, Q7, A4/S4, A5/S5/RS5 - they are two generations old dating back to 2005 when the A6 debuted with virtually that exact interior almost 10 years ago. Now that's old.
ThatDudeinBlue I have driven all manner of performance cars, AMG's, M's, Audi RS's, 911 turbos, viper, vette, supras, lambos, Bentley's, and much more, but this is one of the best driving cars overall I have ever driven. It gets under your skin unlike anything else. It's by far the best car I have owned and driven, with some exceptions in some areas, but not overall. Owned it for over three years now, only thing went out was a battery and rear tires. It's a car I don't plan on getting rid of. It's a keeper. It's a jewel. Anyone who hates them has never driven or owned one. You don't own a Jaguar, you have a love affair with one. You can't explain how they make you feel to someone else. You just have to drive one yourself. There are special cars. Then there are cars that make YOU feel special. This is the latter. Cheers! );?D
Matt, I've been watching these videos since the 419 days. Let me say this: my god you guys have gotten good at this. The best video reviews/automotive showcases are right here. You guys are on another level these days - now just monetize this shit. Great video.
we're monetized as much as we can be, it's still not enough. If we didn't love doing this so much, we'd have been out of business long ago. Thats why, when our feature film, "All Cars Go To Heaven" comes out, everyone needs to fork over the $3 to watch it!
I really like what Jaguar is doing with their image. After decades they found the nutts, to go crazy and wild. The f-type is gorgeous, and this one is like a punc in the face to all M5,AMG and RS drivers. It's lunatic, but in a awsome way. And that sound!
Although I don't agree with you, since I would choose this over a more generic m5 or rs6 (at least to my eyes) any day - just because of the sound, and it's more ridiculous nature - you absolutely nailed this review with your last words, and because of it, I respect you even more than I previously did!
I have one and I can't tell you how much compliments I get from people on the road.. you can spot five M5 and even more 63's AMG .. But how many XF-RS have you seen cruising on the highway? This car demands your attention. and above all comparing JAG to BMW is just degrading for this British masterpiece.
Hey Matt, I often hear you and other motoring journo's complain about interiors not being updated through the life of a model, but then in this case you say that it's still quite a nice place to be. Are you actually looking for improvements, or simply change for the sake of change so you feel like you're driving a new car?
God that thing just oozes power and subtle rage when you look at it at around 5:03. Love it. Also, i reckon this thing would make a pretty good sleeper if you took off the rear wing, kind of like having a racing smoking jacket of a car. :P
piano song which starts in0:23 ??? how is it called please? Thank you¡ and great video, but definitely would get an manual M5 or an s8 if i could, considering that this Jag is still a different and quite genuine option to choose from.
the profile/side view looks almost identical to a pontiac g8. this was designed by ford in `08...could it have something to do with that being the same year they brough the commodore over the pond to america and restyled it and so ford designed this and they look quite alike?
i love the hell out of this car, Jag says that the wing is indeed an option but i agree that it is kind of dated, however i would still love to own one since absolutely nobody does, and it looks and sounds just fucking amazing. I'll take mine in black please.
I think this is a beautiful beast and I also see a lot of people that aren't real car guys commenting here if they can't even admit it is, let alone admire it.
I've checked the configurator last week - the wing is an option thank god. You can have it with a tidy carbon lip spoiler. XFRS Sportbrake throws the gauntlet down to BMW to hurry a M5 Touring to market.
What happened to you on drive? I don't see your takes on cars anymore on the previews released on Sundays and its been a while since you've posted something on there.
matt, how much if any does this car share with the Ford Australian Falcon. More specifically the FPV cars? To me there body is similar a both can be had with supercharged 5.0's. Is the Jag motor sourced from Ford, since they were still owned by Ford in 08?
THAT is a baaaaad ASS Jag. Dammit that car's frkn nuts! Love it. Driven an M5. Haven't driven one of THESE tho....so you really would rather have the M5? Although the M5 I drove to me was a total pkg. Speed, power, handling, options (buttons galore), I just don't have the budget you do, hahaha, so my options are a little more limited. I do have to totally agree with you on the price issue tho. Yeah, if I was die hard into Jags, for that $$$...goin with the F-Type V8S. I think it's just the sound and looks that make me want this car so bad. I am in the market for a kick-ass sedan and I've brought it up before, money wise...I'm goin 2011 Cadillac CTS-V. Thanks for the vid Matt. Excellent job as always sir!
I had a E39 M5 once upon a time. I would happily buy that car again today. But the current M5 is for badge chasers. The only M product worth owning is the M2. I would take the XFR S all day and drive it all day long. I hope Jaguar comes with its new XFR S model soon.
Matt, you'll be pleased to know that the rear wing is optional. Jaguar is working on a replacement for the XF which will be based on the iQ(Al) aluminium platform which is being used for the upcoming Jaguar XS (X760) and C-X17 SUV. It should be available late 2015 or early 2016.
I love the XF-RS wing and all. I guess people don't see the point jaguar is making with this. You can have the XFR if you don't like all the race bits tacked on. But I welcome the race car look for the road and commend Jag for doing the extreme in a humdrum market of similar looking sterile german sedans.
Look - Audi, BMW and Mercedes will always be better engineered cars, that's just fact. However, Jaguar has really upped their game and have produced some of the best looking cars of the last 10 years. The XFR-S has so much character and punch, it may not be as fast as the rivals but it's the fun choice of the bunch. It's the TVR if you don't want the ferrari, it's the car you can look at forever and understand what it's about. The German alternatives are out-standing machines, but the Jag really isn't that far behind, in-fact in some cases it's better. Jaguar are not out to beat these guys, they just want to make fast, beautiful and luxurious cars that appeal to the mass market but with the character to match. If you want to be different and have a lot of fun as-well as revel in a beautiful V8 sound-track complimented by gorgeous styling all round...the Jag is the winner hands down.
When I was looking at this review, Matt didn't really get the point of what Jag was about, & why Jaguar has such a different approach with luxury sports cars. Jaguars are different from the boring black & white suit & tie. Benz, BMW, & Audi are everywhere in the major cities but when you finally get to see a Jag on the road, it makes an impact more so than those other brands. I actually looked at a M series & they don't interest me like others do. The interior is as plain as plain can get, from the dash board to the seats & door panels, it not that nice from a regular BMW.
The limited run is a smart move because I can't imagine Jag moving that more many units. If you're allergic to Germans, the upcoming CTS-V seems like something that'll awe the masses.
Because sometimes when I'm doing in-car, I just forget things. It's impossible to remember every thing all the time, and it wasn't neglected intentionally. I mentioned it at the concluding voiceover. But yes, the E63 is a viable option too.
I did a written review of that car for a publication called "Road Lanes," that is now out of business. It's out of production, so we can't get another one to make a video, but your request just made me think about re-posting all those reviews I did for that company on my site.
I think the hard choice would be between the E63 S and this? Might seem weird but to me the RS6/7 and the BMW M5 CP are very different cars compared to the other 2, their less drama, less fun but very fast whereas the E63 S and this are high drama, more fun but not quite as fast.
I really like the car. I believe you can delete the wing from the options list. I would pick one up a couple years old with low miles for $20-$30k off.
1:00 Guys your math is a little off :P Comparing base prices the XF-RS is 111% more than a base 2.0T XF. Because 100% more than the base car is 94K already. :P
I think the Jaguar looks much better than M5 and even have more character and definitely more than the Audi which they all drive pretty much the same way. But anyway i would have the M5 over the Jaguar as Matt said it just offers more, but I will have the Jaguar over the Audi.
Those wings are optional by the way! you can have it or remove it at no cost. the XF-RS looks stunning in Polaris White on Black Pack or you can have it in British Racing Green (there is another Pack that make the car sits even lower by 10mm) For looks and engine note that turn heads on the street I would rather buy a XF-RS.
TheSmokingTire's been around a fair whack longer than /DRIVE has. A good couple of years IIRC, without delving into Garage419 which is what became TST.
Great review, but the new Maserati ghibli is under 100k too right? Would you take the slower, but orgasmic sounding Italian over the brute Brit? I'm not sure but you might even be able to get a very basic quattroporte for that money too. Bmws just look boring nowadays to me at least
Jaguar is turning my head so much all of a sudden with the XF-RS and the F-Type. I need more moneys cause I'd buy it. It'd be a good step up from the G8 and even the new SS.
"There's so much carbon fiber that if you crashed one, you'd probably end up making a diamond." 10/10 Best comment ever.
The positives I see compared to the M5 are: The Jag is better looking, better sounding, exclusive and its a jaaaaag.
just don't go forgetting your wallet at restaurants
I agree, excepts that the looks already look dated (especially the interior) and the questioning reliabilty issue should be importent for a owner. Then the wing... What where they thinking? Apart from that, I like the car a lot :D
.. as for the wing ... I think you can order it without the wing. Just ask when ordering.
valcked Yeah, probobly. But still shouldn't be on press cars. It makes it look like a Subaru for half the price.
Johan Littorin

The automotive world would indeed be very boring without cars like this. Well done, Jaguar.
10 years later and this is SO true!
Please don't talk about average fuel consumption when doing burnouts and driving it at 5500rpm..^^
Yea Im sure it gets better. My 500 HP LS3 gets 25 on the highway but around town it gets 15 with my heavy foot.
I shouldn't have assumed people would realize that I drive these cars for a week and my fuel economy is an average over the entire week. It was. In fact, at the time I quoted the number, I hadn't done a single burnout yet.

The new CTS-V will send the BMW and MB packing soon. :)
i agree except for the fact that there are three rear spoilers to choose from and the one on the video is hideous
3) The wing looks like someone pooped in their hand and smeared it all over the stall door in an attempt to be artistic.
5) They're the go-to for top dollar sports sedans. They're the benchmark. They're honestly what most people are trying to live up to.

Darrell Johnson well said - just picked one up and I’m loving it over my M5, M6 & RS5. It’s ridiculous.
Darrell Johnson I just bought a white one and it is wonderful I smile every time I start that engine. This car has soul and character.
The CTS-V looks nuts too
Rear wing or no rear wing that Cat can live in my garage.

Miss when smoking tyre used to do vids like this
I don't understand the big deal about the wing... I think this car looks fantastic with it.
It looks like a ford falcon or holden
it's XFR-S, not XF-RS :s

looks great... i love Jags and mercades.... take a porsche for the weekend and the Jag for the daily sleeper.
The exhaust note is fantastic. hard to beat a low restriction exhaust!
My friend had one of these. The sound is just awe inspiring. 👍 You can't hear anything afterwards, but what a last sound to ever hear! 😂
Matt. Nice spot on review. Like your end comments. So many cars i dont want myself but it sure would be a boring world without them.
Hey Matt, I often hear you and other motoring journo's complain about interiors not being updated through the life of a model, but then in this case you say that it's still quite a nice place to be. Are you actually looking for improvements, or simply change for the sake of change so you feel like you're driving a new car?
The wing can be deleted as an option
What about the E63 AMG??
I forgot about it while doing the in-car. Yes, that's a viable option too.
***** personally i wouldn't... but if you want 640 hp over 550.... yes
No, its in my garage in Toronto, seating there while I'm in London UK.
where can i see photos of this car?
ive never heard someone speak more vividly and beautifully about a car
the profile/side view looks almost identical to a pontiac g8. this was designed by ford in `08...could it have something to do with that being the same year they brough the commodore over the pond to america and restyled it and so ford designed this and they look quite alike?
Renaldo Nelson the G8 needed this engine! Would have been awesome!!! No LS swap necessary
The estate/wagon version of this car is one of my favourite cars of all time.
hey Matt how are you liking that fox-body mustang, are you going to do anything performance enhancing to it?
i love the hell out of this car, Jag says that the wing is indeed an option but i agree that it is kind of dated, however i would still love to own one since absolutely nobody does, and it looks and sounds just fucking amazing.
I don't see your takes on cars anymore on the previews released on Sundays and its been a while since you've posted something on there.
thesmokingtire.... Have you tested a new RS7 yet?
Audi RS7 - One Take
matt, how much if any does this car share with the Ford Australian Falcon. More specifically the FPV cars? To me there body is similar a both can be had with supercharged 5.0's. Is the Jag motor sourced from Ford, since they were still owned by Ford in 08?
How was there not a single mention of the 2014 E63....
Excellent job as always sir!
...I still wanna know where Farah got his matt shades!
sorry if I missed it , but what year is this?
The car looks amazing!
Lava Red or French Blue Matt?
BLACK , BLACK AND ONLY BLACK! :)
British Racing GREEN!!
French Blue or bust
I would do the French Racing Blue.
The french blue is brilliant, but this lava red was just a stunningly beautiful color when the light hits it right.
I LOVE the XF, regardless of the versions. Aggressive as fuck and absolutely gorgeous, with or without the rear wing spoiler.
Don't buy M5. Buy regular, less expensive XFR. and spend that money you saved on an awesome vacation :)
its only 11,000 more for a better car
MachineGunHusky Better up until it's worthless and toast in 3-5 years.
Daniel Cioara it wouldnt be worthless because the value wouldnt go down that much
if i had money, i would buy it. even with all its flaws. :D
***** everything he mentioned. those flaws are original identity for me
+Omar I ''FLAWS'' on any other car are simply ''FEATURES'' on a Jag.
I’ve got one , it hasn’t got any flaws it’s a fantastic car in every way.
Bravo! Excellent and honest review. First thing I'd do would be to pull that wing off...
Ya not there to look pretty. I like it, but each to his own.
I had a E39 M5 once upon a time. I would happily buy that car again today. But the current M5 is for badge chasers. The only M product worth owning is the M2.
I would take the XFR S all day and drive it all day long. I hope Jaguar comes with its new XFR S model soon.
Anyone know what road this was filmed on? I wanna drive it!
I think the next version of the XF, whatever it's called, will be absolutely stellar.
This is a very beautiful car..
Do you plan on driving the XJR?
I love the XF-RS wing and all. I guess people don't see the point jaguar is making with this. You can have the XFR if you don't like all the race bits tacked on. But I welcome the race car look for the road and commend Jag for doing the extreme in a humdrum market of similar looking sterile german sedans.
So this is a xf r with a picnic table on the back and a body kit ?
and 40 extra horsepower, and a 30% stiffer suspension.
Jaguar's are the best!
Why was the E63 neglected as an alternative option?
Because sometimes when I'm doing in-car, I just forget things. It's impossible to remember every thing all the time, and it wasn't neglected intentionally. I mentioned it at the concluding voiceover. But yes, the E63 is a viable option too.
TheSmokingTire Meant no offense, was just curious if there was a reason
Would you include a Lexus isF in one of your videos please.I would like to know your thoughts on it.
I did a written review of that car for a publication called "Road Lanes," that is now out of business. It's out of production, so we can't get another one to make a video, but your request just made me think about re-posting all those reviews I did for that company on my site.
Ok cool I would definitely like to read those.
Nice conclusion! These cars are definitely limited in number because I have yet to see one here in Houston.
i like this car alot the looks n all
The car kinda laughs at itself... and I appreciate that. :D
I think the hard choice would be between the E63 S and this? Might seem weird but to me the RS6/7 and the BMW M5 CP are very different cars compared to the other 2, their less drama, less fun but very fast whereas the E63 S and this are high drama, more fun but not quite as fast.
5:45 I wouldn't worry about people laughing because of the wing on the back. I'm driving a 100k car. I'll be laughing all the way to the bank.
100k evo+900hp motor+brakes+suspension+wheels= dope car that will smoke anything and look cool doing it
this is what the Lincoln LS could have been
I really like the car. I believe you can delete the wing from the options list. I would pick one up a couple years old with low miles for $20-$30k off.
That's what I did, I got one for $38,000 with only 23,000 miles on it. It's a bad mamma jamma and it's been problem free, knock on wood.
That Italian Racing Red is such a nice color.
1:00 Guys your math is a little off :P Comparing base prices the XF-RS is 111% more than a base 2.0T XF. Because 100% more than the base car is 94K already. :P
I like the metaphors Matt.
Too bad we won't get the wagon version :(
Had a ride in an XKR with a similar engine to this and my god it pulls :D
Jag make the most exciting saloon cars in the world.
Fantastic film Matt!
Great cinematography!
homie got no love for AMG
looks like a great second owner
I think the Jaguar looks much better than M5 and even have more character and definitely more than the Audi which they all drive pretty much the same way. But anyway i would have the M5 over the Jaguar as Matt said it just offers more, but I will have the Jaguar over the Audi.
Those wings are optional by the way! you can have it or remove it at no cost.
the XF-RS looks stunning in Polaris White on Black Pack or you can have it in British Racing Green (there is another Pack that make the car sits even lower by 10mm)
For looks and engine note that turn heads on the street I would rather buy a XF-RS.
Are you breaking away from the /drive thing and doing your own thing? Or is this just a personal channel?
TheSmokingTire's been around a fair whack longer than /DRIVE has. A good couple of years IIRC, without delving into Garage419 which is what became TST.
The Smoking Tire has been around since 2009, much longer than Drive. Drive is the side project, not TST.
I see I see, the moooore you knoooow!
What road is this?
Great review, but the new Maserati ghibli is under 100k too right? Would you take the slower, but orgasmic sounding Italian over the brute Brit? I'm not sure but you might even be able to get a very basic quattroporte for that money too. Bmws just look boring nowadays to me at least
you couldn't give me a Maserati.
I feel like a subaru/mitsu/rallycar enthusiast who became rich would love this car.
delicious urge to go faster? LMAO
Jaguar is turning my head so much all of a sudden with the XF-RS and the F-Type. I need more moneys cause I'd buy it. It'd be a good step up from the G8 and even the new SS.
Wonder where this car is now
How does this compare to the Chevy SS for twice the money?
It made me appreciate the SS more, actually.
I agree with you Matt. It looks like an sti or evo it should be more... posh. And compared to the new F-type its ridiculous. That V8S sound!
