    People who hate on Kripp for moving to Hearthstone are missing the point. Kripp was instrumental in the early days of PoE, I remember as a new player I'd watch his stream and YT videos a lot to learn about the mechanics of the game. Yes the game's community was a thousand times smaller back then, very few people even knew about PoE at all. But that's why he was so important, that initial period for a game is crucial for achieving success on the big stage. Kripp showed you why the game was great, how complex it was, and that you should definitely play it. By the time Kripp "left" PoE (more of a transition away from the game) the game had already started to take off and there were tons of new streamers and other already established ones that carried the game to further success. If you ask any well-known / established PoE player or contributor (developers of PoE-related software) about which players got them interested into the game, chances are that the name Kripp is at the top of mentions.

      @SirMcAwesome 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@malice7096 he has a much bigger HS audience than he does for POE, so he makes a lot more money by being a HS streamer. I'm not saying that's the only reason he streams HS mainly but even if it was, so fucking what, good for him, he's doing whats best for him and looking after his family. You would do the same so stfu with this "blizzard shill" bs. Everyone knows Kripp is not relevant in PoE these days because he doesn't play it aside from a casual 2 weeks every few leagues, but he's done and shown enough in the past to still have people's respect to this day.

    Don't often hear about people that played Darkfall Online. It was indeed one of the best game experiences ever. I was in a guild called Exile Corp, part of The Coalition of the Chilling. The world war against Hyperion was the best thing i ever experienced. About 4000 people fought in 4 sieges happening almost at the same time. The lag and 1 FPS (if you got that!) did not matter. The scope, the battle, the epicness. The true military style of command in order to keep people in line.
    My god. It was beautiful. Too bad my alliance decided to play "the greedy evil dictator" though. We promised after we won against Hyperion that CotC would dissolve into smaller alliances. But we didn't. So the entire server turned against us, making us lose our capitol and main forward city from which we did our attacks. After that we did disband the alliance and people scattered. We played for quite a while after that, just conquering smaller alliances and taking the bottom left island for ourselves.
    Then the summer holidays came up. Our guild leader promoted a few people in order to keep the guild going properly. But one of them was given full priviledges and turned out to be a spy. Simply said, one day i logged in, didn't have a guild anymore. Checked the map and our entire guild + alliance was disbanded from the inside by that one person. We tried to rally our 40+ guild members after that, but having to start from 0, apart from your personal bank was something most of us didn't want to do. So most of us quit then.
    Still an amazing game, but shit at the same time (gameplay and optimization was pretty terrible).

    PoE's biggest flaw (my 2c ;-) ) is the level of input it takes to reach 8 watchstones. This might not feel like a challenge for gamers who can put in 10 hours a day, but for the ~30-s onwards contingency of Path of Exile's playerbase.... that's a very demanding input that realistically comes at a cost for a lot of gamers. It cuts into family time, work progress, personal progress...
    I know some of that is just arising out of addiction, and addiction itself is something I think we'd do well to be -extremely- wary of (and talk about) in Path of Exile. It's exceptionally well designed, and dopamine is habit forming.
    Anyway all that to say, I love the game. All this new content and I (personally) feel as though I have to tear myself away from it and "grind out" lvl 8 awakening each league. It takes up a -ton- of my time irl and ig, and I would way rather have spent it grinding Lira Arthan for bestiary or farming legion bossses :-) Don't get me wrong, I take a lot of detours into all the rich and awesome content GGG has on offer. Somehow for me at least, I often feel as though I can "relax" and play the game more wholefully until I've finalized my atlas progression in obtaining all 8 awakening orbs. For someone like myself, who can be somewhere in the top ~1200 players on day 1 or 2, A8 takes a llllong time. I'm not convinced it's in the long-term experience of what GGG wants for their gamers, though I'd love to know their thoughts.

    DaoC is old school. We thought about switching from Asheron's Call to that.

    • @ToadstedCroaks
      @ToadstedCroaks 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Switched from Asheron's Call 2 to Daoc myself. That was a very special time in online gaming ...where every MMO was actually different from each other, and they were all interesting and fun in their own way.
      But god almighty, there has never been a PvP game like Daoc in all of these years; still some of the most memorable and cherished moments of my life doing RvR with a few of us on a nightly basis, sneaking trebs onto hills near the summoning platforms and terrorizing unsuspecting people. And then there was mordrid server pvp ....that was a special glorious hell of interpersonal politics / gang territory / thievery / you name it. I really do miss the ability to level, fund, and experience a game solely from combat with other players in an actual persistent world ...and not an arena.
      AC2 is always going to be the one that got away for me though, I just didn't feel like I spent enough time with that game before it suddenly got pulled from the internets; and every time a miracle would happen and it would come back ...it was always gone right before I found out it was back again. I missed so many months / years of that game, just on shear random circumstance. I loved that game, it had great pvp / fvf too; and the best part was the token Asheron's Call "I figured out the game, and now I'm a big deal" moments like learning how to cast spells while moving ... which was a complete game changer, or how to grind out things in pve without needing any real input from yourself. Very few games awarded you the opportunity ( intended or not ) to get better at the game beyond just generic rpg elements or memorizing encounters; it was cool being able to use "interesting uses of game design" before companies turned into helicopter parents and scared CEOs, especially when it didn't actually hurt the game.

    SOlution for trading is implementing A up/Down Vote on sellers.

    • @DerIntergalaktische
      @DerIntergalaktische 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's actually a good idea. Maybe a little intense and punishing for mispricing an item too low and getting more wtb spam than you could possibly answer. But it even fixes pricefixing to some degree, so that's cool.

    • @ShyGuyInKilt
      @ShyGuyInKilt 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DerIntergalaktische the up-down would be like on ebay. Someone that answer fast (or just answer back). good item etc (just like a seller score on ebay. If you don't want to sell. go to stash and remove public from sella stash . also I don't understand how putting something in place that put the seller under the spot would influence an item price? I don't play with the offer and the demand of item . I only make it so if you have a bad score I know that you won't answer and I can keep spamming those PM fast AF. :'D

    • @DerIntergalaktische
      @DerIntergalaktische 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ShyGuyInKilt Ok, I will try to explain it with a more detailed example. Let's assume person A is the perfect trader. He always immediately response and sells you your item quickly without any complications. This person should have therefore a high rating. Now person A found a really really popular in demand item. He lists it for a reasonable price and because it is so popular he gets 15 whispers as soon as he puts it online. Since he is such a perfect trader he sells the item and replies to the other whispers that he is sorry but the item is already sold. However, he cannot write to everybody at the same time. So while he is responding to the 4. person the other 11 have already moved on and gave person A downvotes despite person A giving his best effort. And now everyone sees that A has a low rating and nobody even whispers A anymore. So A cannot get any upvotes. And now perfect trader A can never sell any item ever again. Poor guy.
      And I don't think this is a farfetched scenario. I experienced this first hand in the past. I had a really valuable item and did not realise that it was valuable. I listed it for way less than it was worth and immediately got messaged about 15-20 times. Such mistakes happen to newer players and there is nothing you could do in that situation to not get a huge amount of downvotes.
      And to make it all worse the trade website does not update too frequently. After selling an item it will be still listed for sale for at least a minute (but sometimes I believe even a lot longer). So in the example above, not only are you dealing with the 15 initial whispers, you also get new ones every few seconds.

    The other hardcore mode seems soo much more fun. Screw loosing your character, I cant be bothered to do the main quest / level to 80+ more then two or three times a league. Loosing the items wouldnt be a horrible compromise or maybe should even replace the current hardcore format. Enable the current character death just on races.

    30:26 As someone who has only played POE from ARPGs, seeing my brother play D3 only makes me think that he's swinging a toy sword to hit guys in customes. The barbarian spin look like someone is sliding while spining around a broomstick and I compared it to even the most basic shit in POE and all I can think and feel is,
    ""How do you feel any blood-pumping action from watching this? Do you want to feel like you a beyblade that butchers anything it touches or just see a carousel?''
    I didn't realize how much I love the look of POE until I saw the look of D3, because I didn't know what an ARPG should look like, but I knew it shouldn't look like it's kids play.
    The one ARPG that does that is the Minecraft one and that's because it WANTS to appeal to kids.

    It completely baffles me when Kripp says you can't make a much better ARPG than PoE. Don't get me wrong PoE is a pretty great game, but holy shit are there some major issues with core game mechanics like trading and bosses - and that's without even touching upon all the issues related to an engine that is clearly stretched to its very limits. Are those problems easy to fix? Probably not. Could a game theoretically come out that totally blows PoE out of the water? Absolutely.

    • @chesh05
      @chesh05 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      There are a lot of issues with PoE as you pointed out. That being said, the sheer amount of customization you can put into this game completely blows away all other ARPGs combined. I'm guessing he's referring to the sheer amount of creativity you can achieve in PoE as that would make sense as to why you "Can't make a much better ARGP than PoE."
