I just pour a few glugs of hydrogen peroxide and about a tablespoon of baking soda, then fill the mug with very hot water and wait until the fizzing subsides. Then give the mug a very soapy wash and thorough rinse
Glug glug glug! I was so going to throw away my two favorite hot water bottles (Thermoseseses). I don't know the plural. Instead I tried this. It took my like 4 tries - I am pretty stupid that way. But it worked!! They look brand new ... on the inside that is! I want to crawl in there and run around and look at the glistening walls. But I'll spread out and look all fat and such. So maybe not. Thanks!!
This worked WAY better than I thought it was going to! Even though I rinsed mine out daily per the instructions, my thermos was solid black inside! It took more like a couple hours of soaking, but now it looks new again, and my coffee taste better. I'm impressed!
This is a great solution. Dude just add in the description to mix hydroproxid with baking soda and hit water so the video gets thumbs up! Took my years to find this video again
I've been cleaning for years by filling it with hot water and add two denture tablets ( cheep ones ) . I put the cap on and let it set overnight. In the morning i rinse it out and it's spotless, like brand new.
Even though this is a very old video, I tried this anyways on my 1 litre tea flask which was badly encrusted inside. It worked like a charm!! So chuffed😅. I used 2 tablespoons baking soda, poured in abt 70- 100 ml 3% peroxide, then filled the rest with boiling hot water. It bubblef and frothed for a while ..I didn't see brown gunk coming out so took a long handled flat steel Turner and used it upside down to scrape,it all came off so easily...now the inside shines like new.so happy, thank you for the tip!
WORKS REALLY WELL!!! Here’s what I added to the flask: 2 x tablespoons of Baking Soda 100ml of 12% Hydrogen Peroxide solution [at this stage no real reaction] 500ml of boiling water from the kettle [this is where the reaction starts] Leave to stand for 30 mins = a perfectly clean flask, all old tea stains (years worth) have gone. I’m got the 12% Hydrogen Peroxide solution from Amazon (UK). I don’t think we can het the crystals in UK. 👍👍👍👍👍
Yup. Hydrogen peroxide isn't something you should, you know, drink straight, but it's safe to use for cleaning kitchenware. It's often in your toothpaste, in fact, along with baking soda. Just wash it out well afterwards.
This is the first solution that actually worked amazingly well, and w essentially no scrubbing. Peroxide, baking soda, and boiling water. Wait 30 min or so, and cover the thermos w the cap. 👍🏼
It would have been really helpful to explain exactly what you were doing. We see hot water being put in a thermos and bubbles form. Why? What did you put in there? How much of that unknown thing did you put in there? What were the results after the water and unknown thing were removed (would have been useful to see the inside of your thermos).
Use approximately one part baking soda, one part peroxide, then eight parts (fill with) hot water. I didn't measure, per se. In my 18 oz. Thermos, I put about two tablespoons (didn't measure, I'm guesstimating) baking soda, poured a bit of peroxide till I was happy with the amount (probably about equal to the baking soda), filled with boiling water, then let it sit in the sink till it was done fizzing. I also added a little more water when the level got a bit low. It all took about 10 minutes total, including preparation and waiting for the kettle to boil. My stainless steel Thermos is now 100% shiny clean, and my tea once again tastes perfectly fresh! Don't worry about measurements, just pour and watch it fizz! I did wash with dish soap and a bottle brush afterwards, like I do daily. Next will be my thermal carafe, when it's empty tonight! 😁
Wow......🥰👍🙏 It really does work! Lots of stain from years of use, but one cleanse was enough. 1 litre stainless steel thermos, used 1/10th by volume of both Hydrogen Peroxide and Baking Soda..ie 100ml of each and about 2 litres boiling hot water. It's the hot water that initiates the reaction. After the initial cleansing reactional outpour, continue pouring in the water, and when it settles and the thermos/cup still filled with water, cover with the cap and wait 30 minutes. Voila..! Normal rinse will then do the rest. Looks brand new.. Shines more than when it did when I purchased it..😁 Thanks @Chee Siang Choy
This works because 2 NaHCO3 + 2 H2O2 -> 2 H2O + 2 CO2 + 2 NaOH. NaOH is a strong base and can corrode the tea or coffee stain away, as well as the skin if the solution is strong enough. so please wear gloves when touching the solution. you can use hot water and leave it, doesnt need the bubble to keep coming out of the bottle. As long as NaOH solution is in the bottle, it is corroding the tea stain. The bubble is CO2, it does not do anything to cleaning. If the solution get in contact with your skin, rinse it off in cold water.
OMG! I was just about to throw my beloved thermos away after having tried almost every other method out there! Then I saw this video and gave it a try. Both my baking soda and HP have been sitting around for years, so I did not get the over flowing foams like you did, but still it worked like magic and did not even require much scrubbing if at all! It's almost creepy to see the dark brown strips floating to the top. Now, the inside of the thermos looks like new (the outside is another story with dings and dents). Thank you, thank you, thank you!
So I've been scrubbing, using vinegar, baking soda to no avail to clean my VERY stained (dark film on bottom) thermos. This method WORKS. Holy cow, I started to see large dark chunks of tea film rise to the top and the rim started to shine like crazy. I had to do a second pass to get all the gunk off the bottom. Looks brand spanken new! Used 1/8 cup baking soda, 1/8 cup hydrogen peroxide then added boiling water to the top of a Zojirushi 32 oz thermos. Add more boiling water when bubbling subsides.
Works really well - have just removed most of the scale / rust in one go - am trying a 2nd go to remove the small amount remaining - if this works on a rusty mug I wonder if it will do the same to rusty tools ?
This worked wonderfully!! I tried the baking soda a few times to no avail. I would have never thought of using hydrogen peroxide. My tumbler is like new. Thank you!!
I have to say that this was amazing at cleaning my tea stained carafe. I love a good tea, and make it every day, rinsing out my carafe, but over time it was well in a word disgusting!!! I am so grateful for the comments below, I just poured baking soda and a thing of hydrogen peroxide into the carafe, boiled a pot of water and added it to the carafe, and sat down to read a book, after each chapter, I'd get up and check to see if the liquid had stopped bubbling. When it had, I just dumped it out, and rinsed my almost like new looking carafe out. I have added a new weekly chore to my cleaning routine... THANKS EVERYONE WHO COMMENTED BELOW! *U* Kathleen
Excellent, it works, I tried it with two thermos. Even though no measurements were given I just add random quantities of peroxide, baking soda and fill it with boiling water, waited until the bubbling finished, shake it up and wash it out.
Did this and it worked great. I used 2 tabs but had to do this twice. To be fair my mug was particularly well stained. Looks brand new now. I bought a pack of 44 tabs for 3 bucks, used 4 so I have a 20 year supply left

This works fantastically! I was so excited to try it that I just put random amounts of baking soda and peroxide in. When I poured the hot water in, although some fizzing occurred, it was nothing like in this video. Undoubtedly that was a result of my impatient method. I let it sit for about 30-45 seconds, dumped it out and figured I’d give it another go, this time measuring out equal proportions.
