    Another great video Howard! I really look forward to seeing your videos, but sad to hear you're almost through your collection. Glad to hear you're doing better! I bought a Petri 2.8 after seeing your video on them. Guess I better start looking for a Canon 7 too :)

      Hi and thanks for the good wishes.
      If you can find a nice Canon 7 you really can't go wrong.
      How do you like the Petri?

      @@howpow the Petri has been a beauty so far, although it desperately needs a service! The grease on the focussing helicoids is also dried, so focussing is a little stiff, but otherwise excellent. Really enjoying it. It's my first rangefinder, so composing compared to an SLR has been interesting!
      Now to find a canon! :)

      @@backyardengineering1518 for the price and year the Petri CCS 2.8 was a very useable little camera. Good parallax corrected viewfinder and rangefinder spot and a nice sharp lens. 😀

      Hi David. They were effectively the best rangefinder camera that Canon ever built. That alone is a massive recommendation.

      Thanks for your concern Matt. I am definitely on the mend.
      The canon 7 rangefinders and the equivalent Nikons were right at the top, and were challenging Leica at a far better price point.

    Welcome back. The Canon 7 is an amazing camera. Between the VI the P and the 7 it’s hard to choose one to stick with and shoot!
    I do enjoy the Canon P for its 1x magnification to shoot with both eyes open and frame things.
    If the 7 had a 1x finder that would be the dream!
    As a note, I think you’d benefit from a title change to include the Canon 7 name (it’s somewhat popular at the moment for searches) 👌🏽

    • @howpow
      @howpow  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi flowermaze. Thanks for your welcome back comment, and thanks for pointing out that I had put the Canon 7 reference in the description line instead of the title.
      As you say all those later model Canon rangefinders were excellent and it would be nice to have all three.
      Cheers, Howard 📷

    What makes you trhink the Canon 7 or 7S were the last Canon rangefinders? I own the Canon 110 ED20 which, despite its 110 format, had an excellent rangefinder focusing mechanism. It was sold in trhe 1980's and was preceded by the ED, introduced in the late 1970's which also focused using a rangefinder. Not all rangefinders were Leica style 135mm cameras, and Canon made more than 135 cameras. I love that little Canon 110 camera, and still use it.

    • @howpow
      @howpow  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was referring to their premium camera range. I quite liked a little Rollei 110 I had back in the day. It was small and light.
      But it was only capable of snapshots and fairly small prints. I think we're talking about different things.
      Cheers, Howard 📷
      .

    • @artistjoh
      @artistjoh ปีที่แล้ว

      @@howpow We are indeed talking about different things, but I often hear the statement "Canon's last rangefinder," about the 7 when it was only the last 135 rangefinder by them.
      Rollei 110's were great cameras, one of the best lenses in 110 format, certainly up there with the better ones, and in my opinion, the best auto exposure. They always nail the exposure perfectly. Sadly, their over-engineered film advance mechanism means buying one these days is very risky as they have a reputation for failing.
      The Canon ED and ED20 have stood the test of time better, and have an f2 lens, but the absolute best lenses are the Pentax Auto 110, Minolta 110 SLR Zoom, and Kodak Pocket Instamatic 60, which is another rangefinder. I collect 110 cameras, and we are happy recently because there has been another new color film released in 110. While several film formats went extinct in recent years 110 remains the third most popular format after 135 and 120, and unlike 135 cameras, our little cameras are still mostly affordable.
      I see that Canon 7's are starting to creep up and are going for similar prices to a good 1980's SLR. That is a shame.

      @@artistjoh Hi artistjoh, you have made a lot of interesting points. So although the Canon Camera Museum shows the 7s as the final rangefinder camera I have changed the title of the video to be more accurate.
      Well done.

      Hi Brian, good to hear from you.
      Yes, I'm seem to be on the mend. I somehow came down with polymyalga rumatica. A disease of the elderly. Anyway the treatment seems to be working well and I'm feeling much better, almost back to normal for most of the day.
      Early mornings can be a bit stiff and sore though.
      I've got a few more cameras to go and at least they will probably remain on TH-cam for some years to come.

      @@avnostlga Hi Brian. Compared to your MS I really have nothing to complain about.
      It appears most people with pmr get through it in one to two years without lasting effects, although at 81 I probably don't have too many left.
      Luckily so far the cortisone doesn't seem to be producing many side effects and my hips are really good now it's my shoulders where the main issue is.
      I can still hold a camera though.

      My current dose is 25mg with breakfast reducing slowly over the next 18 months or so.

      Hang in there Brian.

    It is good, I enjoyed using mine... But professional quality it is not, I had high hopes for it until I took one apart for an overall. Compared to cameras from other makers at that time, this camera is flimsy inside and out, I can say that with confidence. It feels like a cheap Yashica Electra in terms of internal quality.

    I really enjoyed my Canon 7 until it broke. My biggest two gripes with it were the position of the strap lugs which makes it impossible to carry and not awkwardly dangle around and second the availability of the hot shoe adapter. That the shoe is missing isnt the problem, it’s that the solution for it is near impossible to get. Apart from that, great camera. Good feel, nice size, will get another one one day

    • @howpow
      @howpow  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi ChosenOne. I may have an answer as to why the lugs are where they are. I'm pretty sure the early lenses were solid brass chromed and very heavy.
      The lugs were positioned with these lenses in mind. Also to help balance the longer focal length lenses.
      The hot shoe is rare and expensive unfortunately.
