    That moment when you realize Raxxon is the precursor to Dead of Winter and Specter Ops, depending on if or how you lose the game.

    I think something worth mentioning is how stupidly hard it is to win in any version of DoW. Even in pure Coop mode some of the randomization of the game can really punish you. Between the exposure dice and the uncertainty of the resources being searched can create frustrating decision making (in a way it simulates the zombie survival theme but if your group plays multiple times in an attempt to win, good luck).

    Wow that was great. Came here just looking for overview and found an even better version it seems. the long night

      @3MBG  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah, i personally think its like a second edition of the game, just a compatible one you can also treat as an expansion.

    Thank you so much, i'm a bit late because my friends & I just got interested in board game recently. This help me choose Dead of Winter: The Long Night as our first game. We're gonna play this during Ramadhan when we wait for Iftar next month.
    P.S. I'm planning to buy Betrayal at House on the Hill 3rd Edition next when it came out.

      Haven't covered house on the hill, but we have a recap of betrayal at baldurs gate which is 90% the same game

    6 minutes, that seemed so long. But I justify it because it was 2 games at 3 minutes each.... don't judge me!
    So, was I a bit harsh on the original game when comparing it to the Long Night?

      @cavanrider6156 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      3 Minute Board Games not too harsh, just seems they learned what they wanted to add in after playing and feedback

    • @3MBG
      @3MBG  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agreed. Which made me wonder why it wasn't a 2nd edition.
      I guess they had warring colonies in mind that early?\

    • @cavanrider6156
      @cavanrider6156 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Maybe. Maybe it was just that they felt it wasn't enough time to pass for a second edition and it wasn't enough to call an expansion. It's 3.5 DND

      I'm pretty positive they did. I remember hearing about Warring colonies play testing less than a month after the Long Night came out. I remember it clearly because as soon as I heard about the Long Night, i sold off my copy of Dead of Winter and then was cursing at the news of needing them both in the future.

    Nice ovevriew, was looking for something short just to get my group back up to speed and this is definitely the video I was looking for.

    • @3MBG
      @3MBG  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You know, id never thought of the vids being used as "refreshers" for a game. But they can work that way as well. Neat.

    You sir just earned a subscriber. Best breakdown even above Rodney and SUSD. Its a great primer I can build on.
    Now
    I challenge you at some point to do it for through the ages a new story XD.
    J.k

      Thanks for the high praise Thomas, I appreciate it.
      TTA is unlikely to appear any time soon as I traded my copy away when the app came out. My regular group did not enjoy it at all so it sat on the shelf for a long time.

    I played a friend's DOW the original, and loved it for its brilliant simplicity, but I may want to add more complexity after playing it several times. Can you play the simple version of the game (found in DOW) with the Long Night? or do the rules implement all the additional locations, wounds, and explosive barricades from game 1?

    • @3MBG
      @3MBG  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      you can play without some of those modules for sure.

  • @Freexers
    @Freexers ปีที่แล้ว +1

    does long night come with the original locations? only two locations seems bit low. can u do a variance with long night n warring colonies?

    • @3MBG
      @3MBG  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, it comes with the original locations. I think if it only had 2 locations i'probably wouldn't have said nice things about it.
      "can u do a variance with long night n warring colonies?" Sorry, what? I don't know what you mean by this, also, i have not played warring colonies

      @@3MBG Ah okay. Very interesting.
      Variance I mean, if you just have the long night. Is it possible to still play the warrying colonies. But have to change the rukes up a bit. Did not know you hadnt played it.
      Thank you for your quick reply :)

    Where do you buy your board games from?

    • @3MBG
      @3MBG  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm in New Zealand, so I use a lot of different places. Some local games stores, some NZ specific online stores as well. But I also occasionally have to get some games from overseas. Then I either use boardgameprices.com to find the cost of a game and then look for an online store that can ship to NZ, or I look at the Boardgamegeek 2nd hand market.
      Where are you based?

    • @GeekeryNZ
      @GeekeryNZ 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@3MBG I'm based in NZ as well, I mainly get stuff from MightyApe - a mixture of board games and table top gaming.

    • @3MBG
      @3MBG  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mighty ape is one of the best. If you can't get it there NZgameshop is another option, or local stores. I'd also check out NZ posts "you shop" system if you want to import any hard to get games.
