Excellent step by step demonstration! Superb study reference material.

One query here special to this study... For structural steel design we know that yield stress changes with thickness of the member... Can we have any definition of material, where permissible yield stress is dependent on thickness?

Of course .. If u have a steel beam with I-section, first break it into flanges & web by partitioning. You can now define two materials one for flange and the other for web (based on the respective fy values)and finally assign them to the respective components.

Looking for videos on building modelling... Where beam column slabs are modelled with 2D beam element & 3D shell elements for seismic response spectrum with compression only soil springs

      Hello debdeep,
Abaqus is a software that is widely used for high-end simulations. For response spectrum analysis, you can very easily deploy programs such as SAP2000 or ETABS. I would recommend to use abaqus in special cases for eg. the ductility evaluation of RCC , steel or composite beam-column joints, bucking analysis of critical compression components, analysis of machine fdns, SSI etc. If you want to carryout performance based designs using pushover or IDA go for programs such as Seismostruct. we have used it in many mega- Europeam projects.
Remember, as engineers we need to evaluate any available commercial programs before its use based on the pros & cons. Further using a simplified structural model without loss of accuracy is ingenuity of engineer.
We cannot waste manhours by modelling RC slabs for spectrum analysis instead go for floor constraint(master/slave option)..

@@puttattjayarajan1199 thank you sir for your insight. In case of few critical structutes of nuclear power plants, we may be going for abaqus as per the client requirement...
What it was requested here, the basic philosophy of modelling, what shall be considered if a situation demands, what shall be the approach...

@@debdeepmajumder9136 Your request will be surely taken care. In the coming months, we will have multiple tutorials on str. assessment for EQ loads (either res.spectrum or dyn. time history). We have still many tutorials pending on static procedure & quasi-static(especially steel str. connection assessment).
I want to finally share my view on nuclear power plants. In case of critical structures (eg. reactor building), , they are by engg. practice designed to remain essentially elastic even under extreme earthquake events. In such cases , I don't know what abaqus will deliver. These are typically instances where our clients require a thorough understanding and we can also educate them for our mutual benefit...!!!
