Are any of these units capable of travelling over 15 MPH? The ones on the mainland crawl about the Soton-Portsmouth line, those on the Kidderminster route crawl along there (on "test") and the ones on the Bed-Bletch route were out of service last time I checked. As for the original test units - never saw one go more than 15 MPH at all. What a difference to the original "D" Trains!
I believe they’re doing 10mph test runs on the island, for driver training, but also due to the heavy rainfall a few days before this was filmed, that washed ballast away, which I believe is what caused a temporary speed restriction, as you can see at the end of the video the train speeds up. It can go way more than 15mph, and yes I never imagined the D stock units in mainline service. A nice touch is that they kept the old whistles too.
oh my gosh!! how quiet is the whistle!! i can barely hear it!! people hard of hearing or the young ones with music headphones will never hear it before the train comes :( ...i thought they would have much louder horns......watch out everyone!
Yeah, they only have around 9 drivers on the Island, so once they've all got the hang of the new trains, and the stations and infrastructure is ready they'll be good to go

Can't need them in service all that fast or the drive training would be intensified
