I’ve watched Paul Mooney stand up comedy for years. How am I just now finding out he played Sam Cooke? Amazing!
Right. And the funny thing is I watched this movie and never realized it was him 😂😂🤦🏿♂️
You learn something every day
Was that Gary Bussey
@@ediddy2497 Yes
😁Ikr. By his x-rated stand up I didn't think he had acting n him!
R.I.P the fearless legend Paul Mooney 😘
Yes, fearless he was. It’s sad that after he passed no white outlets said anything. Not really the black ones either. Then days later they “opened up,” and mentioned something here and there. He was a great person, and built to help the black community understand this country, but in the end not many black people stood behind him....
Your beautiful
R.I.P legendary Sam Cooke
WHAT?? I didn't know!! I love him!!! Oh, this hurts. We've lost a legend. 💔 RIP, Paul Mooney. 😓
He made a gr8 Sam Cooke
I was 11 yrs old when I saw this movie. I never knew P.M as a comedian until the 80's. I will miss my brother. Time is fleeting just a snap of your finger and all of a sudden you are a senior reminiscing on your childhood. That fast.
Well said. "Life moves... Pretty fast."
Richard Pryor said that Mooney made statements that were far more controversial than he ever thought of saying.
True talk. It's like after I hit 30 the years have started flying by & losing friends left & right.
@@dwightlove3704Richard admired that about Paul
He was fearless
"Not now boy" Mooney had to had that written into the script...
😂😂
Lmaoooo 🤣 🤣 🤣 I played it twice jst for this line 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽
LOL!!!...I was thinking the same thing! You know he probably put his twist on it.
You know he did! Lol
@@bad2infinity bruh😭
I can tell Paul Mooney liked this role. Saying to the white man "Not now boy", lol.
You beat me to seeing this lol
Well aside from your racist comment, he looked liked Sam Cooke and did the role good.
Nope
@@scottmanginelli609 How is what I said racist, lol? Have you every seen a Paul Mooney comedy stand-up? I'm only mentioning that particular statement because of what he talks about.
He spoke about this film n his book. Paul was a trip
Sam Cooke and all of the GOATs before him paved the way for the black and non-black artists who wanted to do R&B music completely. Buddy Holly was talented AF too. Shame what became of both Sam and Buddy. This is rare, reelblack. Keep the gems comin'.

Look at my guy stymie from the original little rascals I knew that was him soon as the video started rest well to both 🐏💫🙏❤
Word! I was wondering if anyone else caught that
Paul looked just like Sam, from smile to skin tone, facial structure, head shape and all.
Sam was a bit lighter.
Errrythang!!
Well Paul Mooney in the '70s looked like Sam Cooke in the '60s, plus he even had the same length in their afros plus wore button shirts with the collar pulled up over the blazer which was common in either era but Sam was well known for that.
Yes. So handsome
"Mr.Cooke I LIKES YA STYLE" 😂
Lol
He was hype…😂
Not now boy😂
Entourage?can park your car wherever u want
I was always a big Sam Cooke fan. I saw this movie as a kid and remember thinking how much the actor nailed this role. Just found out it was Paul Mooney wow what a legend.
I loved Paul Mooney as Sam Cooke...He looked so much like him. I wish a biopic had been made with him starring as Sam when he was a young man. Dionne Warwick's son also did a good job portraying him in the opening scenes of Ali. Denzel could've definitely done the role justice when he was younger...I don't know who could play him now, it will be hard to capture the charm, class, charisma, brilliance, and uniqueness of this great man. There is no one like him today! As always, thanks for another great upload...
HoneyHoneyBaby you are hott
Samuel Robinson Thank you :-) !!!
What about a younger Don Cheadle, do you think that could have worked?
I'm 15 yrs old but I've been told I can sound like the older people and I can sing but I haven't got to max potentially like Sam cooke but I just started taking singing serious a couple months ago, I'm Christian who as style like Sam especially when he sang gospel and I started group. God bless everyone and pray for me and the group in jesus name!!!
I said the same thing years ago about Denzel portraying Sam Cooke!
Rest In Peace Paul Mooney
Hate to see this great comedy legend pass. Loved the freedom he Possessed when he spoke. Unapologetically Profound speaker. How I love to hear him talk.
Not now boy😂
He really does look just like him
He played it really well
he does though
He was fine!
To me he look more like lc cook his brother
Paul Mooney is a man of man of many talents!!
Yes and is gay
Gay men are generally more talented and interesting, so valid point.
He was gr8 on Bamboozled
Gary Busey as Buddy Holly. I remember that scene. Buddy Holly was one of the first white performers to perform at The Apollo.
Yea and they rock it
Gone Ballistik Wow!!!!!!
O
What a thrill it must have been for them!
@@giovanna8187 And be scared at the same time!!!!!!
Rest In Peace Paul Mooney. 😇
That was so incredible the whole cast Gary Busey everybody Paul Mooney he's definitely the best that ever did it
Sam knew to much about the music business at a young age , they don't like that we suppose to be dumb remember. Stay woke 💪🏾💯👀
Yes
That's why he was taken out
@@lees3117 Actually 👀💯🤙🏾

Exactly smh.
Paul Mooney out here singing like Wayne Brady.
I know, then fast forward, "Wayne Brady makes Bryant Gumbel look like Malcolm X" ...LOL!!!!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣
@@carminhasantangelo8402 Fun Fact Gumbel was asked the best book he ever read it was The Autobiography Of Malcolm X.
Wayne Brady can sing tho
Stymie from the little rascals
You can’t help but hear it in his voice. His given name was Matthew Beard Jr. but he was so highly credited for that role he adopted “Stymie” Beard.
Oh wow, that is him.
I thought that was Stymie.
He was in Sanford and Son too.
I recognized him IMMEDIATELY!! He still looked and acted the same way when he was a kid.
That's really lovely. Mooney as Cooke was an inspired casting choice. I'm glad I stumbled upon this!
Amazing to see actors that have worked together in the past on movies Gary Busey Rest on Paul Mooney
Ok, now THIS is different. This is how you show Hollywood that you are SERIOUS about your craft. This is a serious switch up. I see Mr. Mooney in a whole new light. I never knew he played Sam Cooke. I'm sure this was quite an adjustment considering the roles he usually played. I'm about ro look for this movie!
A flip from the norm of blacks being the servants. Not now Boy😂
R.I.P To the Legend Paul Mooney
I swear to God this blessed the hell out of me
LmbrJck_t Indeed!
Wow 2:39 when Paul is on stage singing that song, I heard it recently being played on a real estate presentation (remix version) & i was thinking it was some white guy, its happened to me with other artists in the past, me thinking their white lol.
Even as Sam Cooke he is HILARIOUS. Rest in peace Mr. Mooney, thank you for the laughs!

The shady music business industry kill Sam Cooke and Otis Redding
True did. Otis Redding plane was suppose to be blown up. But if you looks at the pictures he’s still strapped to his chair like he’s sleep. No burns.
