Maybe it’s been mentioned somewhere in the comments, but build off a rotor. You can change the rotor head to a small grid head if you grind the large head ghost away and go into the control panel, where you will find you can spawn a small head instead. Now your new grid will charge batteries while you build it ( and you can mix large and small grids, remember you can adjust the distance of the rotor head so you can fit the small grid snug against the large ones ( this is not air tight!) this also works with hinges ( you can build some really cool compact custom turrets this way, like a CWIZ) You will find vanilla turrets have a large footprint, where these turrets only have the rotor as footprint
Hey Skye, I rarely if ever comment on TH-cam but Ive been feeling nostalgic of late, so felt like leaving one. I actually started watching you when I was 12. (can that be said in a more creepy way?!) It was your prison architect series, which was a godsend to me at the time. This coming February I’ll be turning 21. Feel old yet ;) I do!!! I’ve of course drifted in and out over the years. (Your Peninsula livestreams were a great way to procrastinate during my A-Levels) But the last two years I’ve been completely hooked by your content. Your videos are amazing, your humour is superb, and honestly I’m just so grateful to still have a TH-camr like you putting out good content. I’ll end this tirade by simply saying… Keep at it Skye, you’re one in a million! (Oh and of course Hiiiii Picture!!!!!)
Skye just wanted to say before it happens. 25:35 When you build a ship that can turtle itself it is going to turtle itself at the most inopportune time.
You should try a vertical shift miner. Perfect for surface mining, all you have to do is increase and decrease altitude to mine instead of having to point your nose towards the ground. Build the drills facing down.
There are thrust calculators for this game that you should look into. Will help you know how many thrusters and batteries you will likely need based on your planet gravity, atmosphere, cargo capacity, ship weight, etc.
The great thing about Space Engineers is that it can be as simple or complex as you want it to be. Some examples: - At 1G (9.8 m/s^2), a small atmospheric thruster can lift ~10,000 kg while a large atmospheric thruster can lift ~59,000 kg - You can adjust the power of gyroscopes and set overrides for pitch, yaw, and roll - Event controllers with timer blocks can be used to trigger a specific sequence of actions, such as locking a connector, setting your batteries to recharge, and turning off all thrusters - You can set up a solar tower that tracks the sun by using a custom turret controller, a rotor, a hinge, and a camera - When you finally build turrets, you can also build a defensive AI block so that your turrets will utilize their maximum range - If you blueprint a ship, you can copy/paste the design into a projector to create an exact copy. Additionally, you can build a "printer" by setting up a welder array with a project to rapidly produce ships (see LastStandGamers for some examples)
If you like building crazy contraptions, this is the game for you..if you like some casual digging while surviving minecraft style, this is the game for you (there are storylines you can follow, not to mention free custom stories on the workshop to try and survive, 11 years in, there are a lot of them) using mods is super easy, haven’t had any massive problems running any, and I’ve ran hundreds at the same time with no issues. You can easily change your mod list in the save game list, just hit edit save (removing some mods might break your blueprints! seldom the save itself )
Loving the series so far! I have a few suggestions... There are three way to prevent your ship from spitting out ice. 1. The most basic is to just create a group for the sorters and add a sorter toggle to the control bar. So you just turn off the sorters before you dock, and turn them back on when you fly out to mine. TBH, even if you implement the other two suggestions I think it's a good idea to have that control. 'Coz what if you decide to mine ice with this ship. 2. You can setup a pair of sorters on the conveyor line. One going out (to the ship) with ice blacklisted - that way it doesn't get pulled by the ship's sorters. And a second one going the other way with nothing black/whitelisted to just allow things to flow into the station's cargo containers. 3. Finally you can automate the 1st step (plus other things), by adding an event controller block to the ship. Once added you can set it up to track the dock state. When docked you turn off the sorters group, turn off thrusters and set batteries to recharge. When undocked you turn on the engines, set batteries to auto and turn on the sorters. Also, try to get into the habbit of using interior wall blocks when building out new sections of the base. This is something I myself still struggle with - usually just defaulting to the light armour block - but basically the interior walls have a wider variety of looks, giving your base more personality, and in most cases they are fairly safe to use as floor since you're probably going to have walls and ceilings built up on top of them for protection. Of course, stuff like landing pads or wind turbine supports should still use armour blocks for more durability. Also, in general for decoration - try to think outside the box when using blocks. For example, a couple of spotlight blocks stacked together make for a cool looking industrial pipe (turned off of course). A beacon block can look like a piece of industrial equipment in your base. You can use catwalk-covered conveyors as part of the floor, instead of putting them off to the side. An inverted hallway block can act as a "trench" passage inside your garage's floor. Blast door blocks have smaller collision bounding boxes and don't distort from damage, making a good addition to landing pads. There are a ton of these, but hopefully these examples give you some ideas.
May seem obvious but the more engines you have pointed in a direction the faster it stops or goes , the more gyros the faster it turns and rotates , smaller ships generally need only 1 gyro unless it's sluggish to turn . Very nice miner for your first try.
Ya know what... I can't normally stand watching new players learn games that I know whilst streaming.... I have to say though, I am really enjoying watching you pick this up... Loving this :D
Cant wait for clang to show up lol also allways build your connector first attached to the connector then the battery so it can charge while you finish build
Hey skye! ive been playing space engineers with a good friend of mine for a few years now, and seeing it on your channel really brought a smile onto my face! we are at the stage of making a massive spaceship that will hold our smaller miners and welders! allso, every ship we have build, is named after a cool insect, like ladybug (our first miner) Wiever ant (our first welding bot) and luner (our earthbound homeship, named after the lunar moth) i love designing ships in this game, and i cant wait to see what you can cook up! its been a blast playing it, so watching you play will be a joy im sure! have a great day!
Got space engineers like 8 years ago. But really, seeing you play it is much more fun than playing it. Also my PC was not up for it... Back then there were no planets. So I would like you to build planetary vehicles (with wheels?) before doing spaceships. To watch the journey from truck, to plane to spaceships. Mining small scale, large scale and then supermassive scale. Also, for the endgame, test the limits of your computer. This game can do it!
You might want to add a funnel collector on the landing pad, and a seperate grid storage, for ice and hydrogen production. Also some painted parking stripes
thanks for the series! not sure if anyone mentioned yet but you can pull components out of connectors too, so you don't have to go all the way to a cargo container to pukk stuff if you are next to a connector, or any other accessable port, for that matter (mostly)
Welcome to Space Engineer's! my recommendation? start a offline game but using creator tools so you can play around in building ships and rovers to see what works without having to mine materials to do it, I been playing it for a few years now and I haven't got it all figured out yet......and beware of of Lord Klang!!!! because you will not be able to avoid him
Its been a long time since I've seen space engineers. Regarding you ship, do tilt tests with a ship full of iron. If you get too greedy your ship could get stuck in a bad tilt for your thrusters. I'd recommend more gyroscopes since they are OP in creating strong righting forces beyond reason. Also, protect your batteries.
Nice job getting started, before you know it, your base will grow very rapidly ;) As daunting as it might seem at first, if you keep at it with single purpose designs, you will learn very rapidly.
Daily positive comment Oke Oke Oke, i'm coming around to this game. BUT its just because you make it fun Skye...DAMN YOU FOR BEING FUNNY. Also remember to pet Picture 😊
hey skye.. a tip about the stone ejection system.. set your sorters as filters only, (whitelist, stone.. remove ice option when you need to) by turning off the collect all option on the sorters.. and have the small connectors set as collect all and throw out.. the sorters have a slightly smaller inventory than the connectors.. by setting the sorters to filter only and using the connectors to pull.. you remove slightly more stone per tick edit.. also.. when playing SE.. always keep in mind.. you WILL loose your builds.. either by pvp, or more likely.. lack of piloting skill (especially as you are on a private save) when this happens.. coz it will.. treat it like a good excuse to rebuild better and improve the design ps.. congratz on the ship.. as a veteran of the game.. i can tell you that a lot of players struggle to get the power to weight to thrust ratio difficult.. for a first ship.. you did well.. nicely done
If you want to make massive bases or projects I suggest building a welder ship. It can hold a lot more than your inventory and I believe it is also faster than the hand tools
Hi Skye. I'm impressed, it's a pretty solid first try on designing and flying a ship. Well done ! If I may suggest something, you can set a button in your command bar to toggle on/off your rear thrusters during fly, so you can have a journey without having to press forward constantly and sail in peace and save some power ;)
Ive got thousands of hours in Empyrion but worry id get bored playing this without enemies to blow up etc. so watching this to see if it changes my mind. Its certainly a fun game to watch
Just use any of the NPC mods to add enemies, then you can tailor your experience to what you enjoy by picking the type of NPC’s you like to fight against.
You can reduce the strength of the gyros a little so your turning is slower and less jerky. You can add the sorters (group) to the hotbar like the thrusters and batteries, to turn them off when you dock so you don't throw out anything from the base. With an Event Controller, you can set it up so things are automatic when you connect. Lights off, Ore Detector off, Batteries recharge, Thrusters off, etc. For your first ship, you did really well. Once you upgrade to the better refinery & assembler, you can also add modules. Speed and power efficiency modules work for both, and yield module for the refinery only. Just leave yourself room (refinery back side, assembler sides) to add them.
If you find this to be too slow, you could always fly it backwards 😂. At least if you're going somewhere far away. Fly up above the terrain and blast off backwards lol
when its time to get ice, I highly recommend using pistons and drills connected to your base. Can add rotors and hinges to articulate the drills and can have them sweep the ice immediately around or underneath your base. MUCH easier than going back and forth in a mining ship. Until you have uranium, hydrogen power will probably be your best bet, given how much H20 that surrounds you. Well done on your first mining ship.
Damn, how could I have completly missed the first episode of this series! It's a Skyeing shame! See what I did there ;) As always love your content, no matter what you play it's going to give me joy and entertainment!
All of that you di right now with your buttons to turn off/on engines and charge/discharge battery, you can "automate" with Event Controller :) It is a small block on small grid (like one armor block size) and you can set it to detect if connector is connected/disconnected :)
May I suggest turning both gyroscopes down to 60% in the control panel? They are a little too powerful for the weight of your ship, and that's why the turning is so twitchy. Twitchy turning causes accidents
Well, the nice thing is you can adjust the Gyros to be a bit less intense. But it's a pretty good starter ship. I'd make a few more adjustments like a few vents to pull in Oxygen. Since you're still planet side, no need for hydrogen in it, unless you want to add on a Hydrogen engine to the base for an extra power boost. Hydrogen will be better to wait on until you wish to build a ship to escape the planet's gravity.
Awesome to see you playing this game SKye! Looking forward to seeing what comes next. One small question as a non-Space Engineers player; so there is a bar at which things are build without being completed. Especially with building blocks and such; why would you ever fully complete them if they already work? What is the benefit there? Also; seeing as construction is going quite fast; is there a way to easily spot which things aren't fully build yet?
not sure if this has been mentioned, but if you add an event controller, you can set it up to where when you lock the connector your thrusters automatically turn off and your batteries automatically turn to Recharge. Then when you unlock the connector your thrusters turn back on and your batteries turn to Auto.
Happy to see you play S.E. just a few observations and questions. I was wondering if you were playing with the pcu limit off or not. If its not off it can limit how much you can build. You may want to introduce the modular encounter spawner once you are more comfortable. It will spawn both neutral and aggressive ships so can add a lot to the world. While you were flying around in your miner i noticed you wear peaking your batteries. That means that adding thrusters can potentially do bothing because the batteries just cant supply enough power even at full discharge rate so you should add additional batteries. Other than that really excited for this series.
In order to slow down how fast you are turning, all you need to do is turn down the strength of your gyros. I would start at about 70 percent strength and on both and adjust from there.
I'm truly enjoying your exploration of this game. maybe go the game's you tube channel. they post lots of "showcased" gamer's builds. Seeing first hand some of the amazing vehicles and bases that are possible will surely inspire your own brother. safe journey
I don't know how effective this would be, but why not take the small thrusters on the outermost topside (just the two, one left one right) and turn them sideways to act as frontside lateral stabilizers? I think having the only lateral thrusters being on the boot of the ship is making the turning feel fast because you're swinging the majority of the weight out. So by pivoting a couple of the front thrusters sideways, it'll help balance that out and maybe slow down the turning speed a bit. Yes, you'll be losing a bit of backing thrust, but it'll also mean you won't be adding more weight than functionally intended. Oh, and a name suggestion for the ship: *_"The H.M.S. Boar"_* seems fitting, since you compared it to a potbelly.
Dear Skye, congrats on successfully building, flying, using and docking your first ship. That being said, we did not come here to watch you *successfully* build, fly, use and dock your first ship. Where's the excitement in that? The fun, the boom booms? Please look at some tutorials on how to add explosions in post. Thank you for your time. -Lion

Skye Needs a slow careful first mining ship;
Also Skye: builds a ship with enough engines to be a racing yacht. 😂
SE is one of those games that sucks you in. I fraking love it. Enjoy the fun Skye
Battlestar Galactica frak? 😄
Skye just wanted to say before it happens. 25:35 When you build a ship that can turtle itself it is going to turtle itself at the most inopportune time.
Any SE vet worth their salt, has made this mistake several times more than they are willing to admit
the Craft for High Observation, Digging and Excavation is looking good! Now you just need to think of a name for it...

How have I never watched any of this game before??? How have you not played this before Skye , so stoked to see what you come up with
Dear Sky, Happy Thanksgiving to you and Ms. Perfect. Thanks for sharing 👍

Nice ship! Could use a dam animal to pilot it but hey, you work with what you've got!
Great Ship mate!
Love it! Keep em coming please
Enjoyed the episode keep them coming Skye!
Skye the spaceman, can he do it ? sky the spaceman, yes he can !!

Skye adds the cockpit to the planner, ignores the connector next to him and goes back to the machinery to add to production. Woohoo.
Nice job getting started, before you know it, your base will grow very rapidly ;)
As daunting as it might seem at first, if you keep at it with single purpose designs, you will learn very rapidly.
3:56 " Wow, that's a nice boulder"
lol ;)
Daily positive comment
Oke Oke Oke, i'm coming around to this game. BUT its just because you make it fun Skye...DAMN YOU FOR BEING FUNNY.
Also remember to pet Picture 😊
hey skye.. a tip about the stone ejection system..
set your sorters as filters only, (whitelist, stone.. remove ice option when you need to) by turning off the collect all option on the sorters..
and have the small connectors set as collect all and throw out..
the sorters have a slightly smaller inventory than the connectors..
by setting the sorters to filter only and using the connectors to pull.. you remove slightly more stone per tick
edit.. also.. when playing SE.. always keep in mind.. you WILL loose your builds..
either by pvp, or more likely.. lack of piloting skill (especially as you are on a private save)
when this happens.. coz it will.. treat it like a good excuse to rebuild better and improve the design
ps.. congratz on the ship.. as a veteran of the game.. i can tell you that a lot of players struggle to get the power to weight to thrust ratio difficult..
for a first ship.. you did well.. nicely done
If you want to make massive bases or projects I suggest building a welder ship. It can hold a lot more than your inventory and I believe it is also faster than the hand tools
Thank you for your dedication skye
When the ship was done ( great job by the way ) all I thought of was " what if Skye built a tunnel borer " , just mine whole mountains away , lol
Could happen :)

Love the vids. Love the game. I
Love everything about this.
Tip turn off the seperators before connecting to base
Love this game! Have fun!
Love the new game big man
You can reduce the strength of the gyros a little so your turning is slower and less jerky.

Speaking of what i want to see, i want to see if you could fly the ship backwards 😂 (and hopefully crash the ship somehow accidentally 😂.)
highly suggest izys inventory script. no more micro-managament of resources in cargo. easy setup with all kinds of options for automation
when its time to get ice, I highly recommend using pistons and drills connected to your base.
Yip iam loving this
Damn, how could I have completly missed the first episode of this series! It's a Skyeing shame! See what I did there ;)
As always love your content, no matter what you play it's going to give me joy and entertainment!
You should build one of those giant bucket miners
All of that you di right now with your buttons to turn off/on engines and charge/discharge battery, you can "automate" with Event Controller :) It is a small block on small grid (like one armor block size) and you can set it to detect if connector is connected/disconnected :)

Well, the nice thing is you can adjust the Gyros to be a bit less intense. But it's a pretty good starter ship. I'd make a few more adjustments like a few vents to pull in Oxygen. Looks like it's on sale now in Steam. Should I just get the base game, or is one of the bundles a "must have"?
You can easily have fun without any of the dlc's most of them are block reskins or minor stuff.
Have you considered installing a park-cam on her rear?
not sure if this has been mentioned, but if you add an event controller, you can set it up to where when you lock the connector your thrusters automatically turn off and your batteries automatically turn to Recharge. Then when you unlock the connector your thrusters turn back on and your batteries turn to Auto.
Take a lock at the assertive mode
battery just needs to be connected to your grid. I use them as floor blocks
Happy to see you play S.E. just a few observations and questions. I was wondering if you were playing with the pcu limit off or not. If its not off it can limit how much you can build. We're going on a trip with our favorite miningship...😂
I'm guessing the ice you kicked out at base came from the h2 gen.
Have u ever heard of the beaver game, timber something?
Jk.
Ur doing well. U have me wanting to play this game now.
Love it . Need go oger on a strip minimg ship like 14 drills a no you can do it big like hell .
Can you make a ice collector under the ship at the docking station?
Are there lights for the landing pad?
All thrusters apply force at the center of mass of the ship .. doesn't matter where you put them :)
You don’t need the control for turning off the thrusters because if you are not controlling them they won’t use power
Literally EVERYONE has has control set up :)
Never played this game so please correct me..can you paint the landing pad or add lights to help you line up when docking?
Thank you 😊
Veteran players say not to use the P key to park. Cant remember why…
Skye as an *American* 🇺🇸 🦅 make it *bigger with more powerful thruster* .
can you use mirror mode in the game? Or is that just creative?
sneaky sounds ftw.
if the turning is to fast try one gyro instead of two
😊
Is this a sever I could join?
🎉
Grats on first ;)
@@SkyeStorme Thanks!

Happy Thanksgiving to us winners sorry red coats....... Have some turkey anyway...........
Resembles the ship from Mandalorian, love it
Dear Skye, congrats on successfully building, flying, using and docking your first ship. That being said, we did not come here to watch you *successfully* build, fly, use and dock your first ship. Where's the excitement in that? The fun, the boom booms? Please look at some tutorials on how to add explosions in post. Thank you for your time. -Lion
pity i don't hear any tool sound now, was fine for me before the mod.
It’s twitchy bc you need to turn down your gyros.
Please never ever ever ever press p setup the hotbar to dock and undock of you press p to undock it undocks everything in the base
That's only if you have multiple ships docked to the same grid ...
There are no "construction composites" in space engineers. They're called "construction components"
sorry to say skye but the sound mod is just bad, i dont hear any game sound now and that makes is very boring to watch for me
