- Prime time anchors Paula Zahn & Tim McCarver sign off. Charles Kuralt's "nostalgic vignette" closes CBS' coverage of the Albertville Winter Olympic Games.
The background music during Charles Kuralt's tribute to the people of Albertville is variations on Tamara Kline's unnamed Olympic theme, commissioned for CBS' 1990s Winter Olympics.
These were my favorite Winter Olympics. I still remember scouring the schedule for the figure skating events and marking the days on my calendar.
An excerpt from Carl Orff's "Carmina Burana" is also heard in this clip.
Thank you for posting this. I was 18 years old when these Olympics ran. I was a big fan of the games back then and would record them whenever I could. I once had a recording of this last piece; the “thank you” to the town of Albertville. I was always touched by it. My recording got lost to time and I feared I would never see it again. Thank you for giving this near 50 year old a happy trip down memory lane.
Now all that's left is the 1998 credit roll from Nagano!
