I love Bach, and I love the Partita that this is based on. But I can’t get over what a profound and meaningful interpretation this is. It is simply the best guitar interpretation of Bach that I have ever heard. If I have a bad day, I fire up TH-cam and I listen to this before I go to bed. It restores my soul. Wasser’s interpretation is amazing, the playing is faultless, the overall experience is transcendental. I agree with the comment below: if we ever needed to prove to an alien race that humanity, at some point in its history, was worth something, this would be Exhibit One. It be topped. I still prefer this on piano, but you gained not only my respect but my sincere admiration. JSB rejoices in Heaven listening to you at 9:10, for example.
Nonsense! Like everything else, the chacon is far too easy on piano and therefore one does not get the deep drama of a human body challenged with negotiating the complexities of Bach's art. Like most pianists, were for that matter most instrumentalists, you seem to be largely chauvinistic about the sound of your instrument, which is only natural. Natural. But when looked at from a higher viewpoint, as to what actual sounds and timbtes do the greatest justice to the internal drama that is unfolding and expanding in such a profound way, one would have to go with an instrument which is touched directly by the hands of the player, such as a violin or a guitar, the most intimate of all instruments as both hands connect with the sound medium without any intermediary, not even a bow. Bow. Listen again with beginner's ears!
Not one of my best Chaconne, but the best of the best! Stunning..., His masterful left hand fingers don'ts lose any one note, firmly pressing the strings onto the fret, which leads to clearer sounds than any other's. His right-hand fingers' touch is no less powerful than delicate. Thumbs Up. Applauds from all my heart.
I own a 10-string, so I can appreciate what he's got going on. He's making use of all strings, which is always nice to see from a multi-string player. He's tuned a half-step low (C# instead of D). The lower pitch seems to give his 11-string more depth and presence. I must say I like the effect. And yet he has a capo on the 2nd fret! Which means, with his tuning, the E string would be a D, the A string a G, the D string a B, the G an F, the B an A and the high E a D. But why capo? Shorter effective scale making some of the more severe stretches easier? His arrangement and expression are outstanding. One of the best versions of the Chaconne I've ever heard.
For me, as great as this interpretation is, it doesnt match the best ones played on violin. Maybe you dont know this one, the best i've heard so far, from leonid kogan : th-cam.com/video/nxuiPqeIJwU/w-d-xo.html Much more shades in it according to me! That said congratulations for this amazing one!!
I've listened to dozens of guitartists play the Chaconne. Most interpretations are basically the same - in the style of Segovia. This one got my attention. This is new, original and refreshing performance of perhaps the most perfect single piece of music ever written.
If I were cast on the proverbial desert island w/ only 1 piece of music - only this, certainly. Disagree a bit about "most interpretations;" the great Narciso Yepes, for instance, w/ his 10-string instrument? Even, let's say, Bream & John Williams, Maestro Segovia disciples notwithstanding, play the work differently, if not as dramatically so as here, to my ear? Your thoughts appreciated, withal.
Stunning. I can't get over how gorgeous his intonation is. The perfect intervals are just, and the rest are tuned to serve the music. Wonderful performance
I wonder if he's using Tempered tuning for the top and bottom strings. Strings are few ¢ cents off: sharp top three strings / flat bottom three strings to sound more "in-tune" like a piano.
Such an incredible work of music. Mr. Brahms was spot on when he mentioned that conceiving such a work would be at the expense of ones own sanity. So much beauty, I struggle to grasp how such a thing is possible. This has been one of my favorite pieces since I first heard it some 18 years ago.
Ditto on the Chaconne, but we must remember that Brahms got his first paying gig in the same place Eubie Blake did! Claimed later the experience saved him "from marriage and opera."
I've listened too many performances of this masterpiece, I've seen this piece been playing alive, I've watched several videos, but to me, still is the best performance ever, this virtuosos is beyond words. What a gift. Thanks.
Very well done Mr. Wasser. This was absolutely beautiful and technically very-very clean sir. Thank you for giving a masterful performance sir, I really enjoyed this maestro. Be well sir.
Man, I always thought Yamashita's performance of this in Toronto was the best Chaconne ever on the guitar. But, this performance is hands down the most amazing ever. The speed, control, fluency, and precision. Simply superb.
Dude, there is a russian / moldavia guitarrist. ill something hes called. That is the best versión Ive heard. Tought Yamashita was best but after hearing his
Guys I’ve listened both of them live, they’re both superb but I think the best is Pavel Steidl or, if you wanna exit from the classical world, Steve Hackett (guitarist of Genesis) on the album “Tribute”
Yamashita performance normally goes too fast than the music score indicated and his playing was very metallic sound and sharp which lack of musicality and interpretations. However, his guitar arrangement are fantastic and amazing.
None of those mentioned, Yamashita, this guy etc, know how to properly build up the tension in this piece, and keep it flowing. Only Göran Söllscher knows this. He's the true master of this piece. None else comes close.
Such a harsh world we live in. An excellent performance of the Chaconne by an excellent player and I read criticisms and remarks of what's better and who's not!? Really? Maybe critics should spend more time developing and less time criticizing?
I love all of your recordings! I love the 11- and 13-string guitars. You need to record some Weiss and Bach on CD!!! Yepes played a 10- or 11-string guitar but I thought he was a lousy guitarist.
BRAVO !
Of course Johann Sebastien's music can be played on anything. It is pure and absolute Music that transcends all instrumentation - but this young guy has rendered Bach's heart and soul on strings.
Beautiful. Well done, sir. 3:20 ....I've NEVER heard that passage played with such precision and vigor. Ever. I've heard them all too. This performance brought me to tears.
Moran Wasser is one of the most outstanding guitar players who I have ever discovered on youtube. However, there is hardly any information about him available! No homepage, no wikipedia, no concert listing. What's going wrong, Moran?! The world needs to know!
Many people will have goosebumps at 6 minutes and 3 seconds. It is meaningless to talk about technique or 11-string guitar when talking about Moran. I can say with certainty that he is an artist who transcends such levels. He has studied Baroque music extremely sincerely, and has constructed a highly advanced and profound musical world, eliminating low-level pretensions and bluffing. This is impossible for an average person, and there must have been days of unimaginable stoic training behind his performance. Bach left behind many arrangements of his own works, but Moran's performance will leave him smiling.
Moran Wasser is one of the greatest guitar players of our century. All his performances on baroque repertoire has a fluent and idiomatic pronounce. This is the best interpretation of Bach´s Chaconne i´ve ever heard on the guitar! Bravo!
An interesting interpretation was shown by Forbes Henderson, with much, much more feeling. I would highly recommend. th-cam.com/video/jGC1tuGiFLo/w-d-xo.html
Hey man, you rock. Twenty years ago I remember listening to Segovia's version as a teenager at full volume with headphones on and instinctively headbanging at the onset of the arpeggiated minor melody. Sealed a life-long love of Bach. Thank you for your devotion to the guitar.
I cannot with words do such justice to this performance as the performance does to the music. A rare gift it is that makes such playing possible. Exquisite.
Bravo !
Stunning and phenomenal interpretation. I really don't like too many strings but i begin to like it now. And for those who gave a thumbs down...Pride will not make anyone a better player.
I'm a musician, ancient guitar player, but I feel painful to read some of these comments. Every one has it's own sensitivity. His is not mine, but what a great way to defend his approach. I should say perfect, even brillant. I played a lot this Chaconne, I love it, a 13 min of written improvisation, a full image of Bach genius. I love a more singing way, some deepness here and there but... this is my expectation. We are all different, and we should remain so. I'm always curious about other ways, other sensitivity. It shows me so many other side I ignore.... Thank you for such a great work.
To call any work or performance "classic" tends to exaggerate - but here? I think, not at all. Moran Wasser, w/ this Mueller instrument, gives us something stunning, in an established work of classic status many times heard, in many interpretations. Wasser's thinking & feeling of this piece has a dramatic power, an eliciting of the music's potential force, that astonishes me. I could say that this is what I have wanted from the Chaconne Dm all my life, & didn't realize it. Wasser's "collaboration" w/ the Dieter Mueller 11-string instrument lends power to an originality of phrasing & tempos, that could have been disastrous if not done perfectly, & if not supported throughout by the resonant strength of this unique guitar. Interesting that the additional 5 strings seemed so little used directly, w/ little or no fretted notes; & yet, how well they anchored, "proclaimed," if you like, the most assertive or lyrical phrases that Moran Wasser's truly original mind gives us. A gift to the whole universe, I'd say: no damn exaggeration at all.
When an anamazing instrument and an amazing performer are melted together to play a masterpiece of the music - Bach's Chaconne - then this is the outcome.... Divine!!!
BRAVO... I would say this is the exact opposite of Busoni's arrangement for piano in terms of character, in other words, yet another beautiful dimension of this infinite piece of music. My biggest respect for this interpretation.
Thanks for your interpretation of this deep piece. My favorite one. Tears in my eyes while listening. (The fast scales in the minor section are, in my humble opinion, played as they should be: for the first time; i don't hear staccato and notes played in a flamenco way).
Fabulous - both in terms of your performance and Bach's wonderful Chaconne. The quiet transition at around 6:00 is especially beautiful - minor to major key, as well as quietness and reflection. It would be lovely if you could make this available in lossless format. Finally, thank you for the courtesy of citing the BWV catalogue number!
Such grace and execution of technique is beyond any descriptions. All I can say is Thank You for being alive, and donating this vision from your head, heart, and hands.
The Essence of Musical emotion ! Far from the pathos and commercial shows of famous "experts" on the great medias, MONSIEUR Wasser you bring us on the desert island enjoying without limits the simple perfection of your divine interpretation . THANK YOU !!!!
I know that tone is in the hands but this instrument sounds gorgeous even with open notes. Beautiful playing and a beautiful instrument. More people should see this.
This brought tears to my eyes such dedication, such mastery of a beautiful instrument and the best interpretation of this my favourite piece of music. A God given gift that is wonderful to behold..
O violão de onze cordas deu à essa obra prima de Bach um colorido que o violão clássico não pode dar devido a suas limitações de recursos e a interpretação de Moran Wasser é irretocável. É muito difícil ouvi-la só uma vez. Bravo Moran!
Wow, I believe that is the best version of this piece I have ever heard on the guitar. Your playing is so moving and your guitar sounds fantastic. What an achievement. Congratulations.
Greatest piece of music ever written. True to Bach to my ears- playing, arrangement, and the dedication you put into it. Beautiful video and camera work. Bravo.
Astonishing (again). Although I've commented before, this performance deserves to be heard many, many times - & recommended to all one's friends, & to any strangers, human or alien...
Currently the thumbs-ups are > 4,200 and the thumbs-downs are 91. I would really, REALLY like to see a link to the youtube channel for any one of the 91 showing their interpretation of this masterful and challenging piece. Translation: "All you haters need to take a cold shower". Recalibrate your life and find good in the world where it may be found. This musical performance is magnificent. Is it perfect? Sorry....no....perfection is unattainable. This is, however, perfect for this performer, this piece and this guitar at this time in history.
Well for a start there's no drum track or vocals, maybe that's why they didn't like it. And there's no sustained groove you could dance to. The composition is quixotic, restless, extreme, damn weird! You can't expect a person brought up on baby purée to like it. A performance on guitar lacks the gut wrenching agony of some passages, is more melifluous, but makes some of the harmonic sequence clearer. I love this performance. And if I want my heart shredded I'll listen to a violinist struggling with the impossible.
Senza parole. Derek Without words. No doubt that we are dealing with one of the greatest guitarist of this era. Every performance by him is beyond any human executive ability. Perfection for what belongs to the human being. Dear Moran, I wish you the best he can aspire to in this world. Derek
THIS is my favorite conversion from Violin to Guitar and this was absolutely amazing. I tried for almost 8 months to play this piece and could only get like 40% of it technically down ....amazing
@@malcolm1764 Yes I like that one too. They are all special. For guitar you need either very good earphones or very good speakers. The violin is easier to record. In a concert hall setting a violin will blow away a guitar. The dynamic range of the guitar is tight. You need to be in a small room. For me anyways classical guitar was also a kind of acquired taste. The violin is easier for most people to listen to. I suppose it's (more) like a human voice. The advantage of a guitar is being able to fill out the chords a bit more, which this player seems to do. Raphaella Smits is also really worth a listen. The chaconne is one of those pieces where I remember where I was the first time I heard it. There are very few pieces of music like that.
Among TH-cam recordings at least, this surely must be the definitive interpretation of the piece. There are sections which IMO are a little too fast, but one cannot fault the fluidity.
Most humans aren't as eloquent and free-flowing with their spoken word as this guy is with his fingers. By far my favorite arrangement on TH-cam, anyway. Just absolute insanity.

This recording is, to simply put, one of the greatest achievements on the guitar, ever.
It would seem that Bach's Chacone in D minor was meant to be played by Moran Wasser on this 11 string guitar. This is just perfect.
Damn, the clarity and articulation of those 32nd notes at 3:22 is seriously impressive!
First view and listen to a 11 string except when one of my strings broke on my 12 string...that 12 never sounded as beautiful as your 11 string. Awesome skills talents. Gifts from God plus years of hard work practice study discipline sacrifices ...
BEAUTIFUL...
Insanely good. Don’t typically comment on anything but could not resist. Artistry truly phenomenal.
I think Bach would appreciate this very much. Such a consumate performer playing such a renowned composers music. Very beautiful.
Played on the guitar is richer than any other instrument and here we have one of the best ever performances.
Нет плохих единоборств, есть плохие мастера.

I am baffled how anyone could thumbs down this performance.

When an anamazing instrument and an amazing performer are melted together to play a masterpiece of the music - Bach's Chaconne - then this is the outcome.... Divine!!!
I can hear the eternally unfolding mystery of humanity beaming through history through the struggle of reformation and revolution. So beautiful.
Incomparable brilliance, majestic music at its purest
BRAVO... I would say this is the exact opposite of Busoni's arrangement for piano in terms of character, in other words, yet another beautiful dimension of this infinite piece of music. My biggest respect for this interpretation.
And bravo to you good sir. Art is and always has been all about reinterpretation and reinvention. ^-^
Stunning! Superb! Amazing performance. Wow!
I totally enjoyed that. Thank you very much. Beautifully done.
Breathtaking.
This is heartbreakingly beautiful
Superb performance. Lovely to hear the guitar arrangement. Thank you for the upload.
Amazing. Looks like a new Goran Sollscher. Most impressive approach to Bach I've ever heard in the guitar world.
The major arpeggio section. Breathtaking truly
Without any doubt, absolutely the best performance of the Chacconne I have ever heard! Thanks!
So agree this is sooo well played
Such grace and execution of technique is beyond any descriptions. All I can say is Thank You for being alive, and donating this vision from your head, heart, and hands.
Que impresionante presencia la de esta guitarra , con un timbre espléndido , y el interprete también es notable . Felicitaciones .
Sublime. Perhaps the best interpretation of this piece I have heard. Thank you.
Listen to Johanna Beisteiner ... her Instrument is absolut great, made by Paulino Bernabé - Isolation of the vote is perfekt!
I like this one way better!
It may be cliche, but Segovia is the high water mark.
Bill Kilmer, I agree but the recording quality is not very good.
This brought tears to my eyes such dedication, such mastery of a beautiful instrument and the best interpretation of this my favourite piece of music. A God given gift that is wonderful to behold..
Astonishing gift for an astonishing composition. Will watch this again and again.
This indeed is a wonderful thing to hear and see. Thank you.
It's the best guitar transcription of Bach's Chaconne! Bravo! Thank you!
This performance was mind-blowing, I have no words to describe how I'm feeling now. Awesome
Absolutely beautiful.. congratulations
Huge thank you to Master Bach too
Just wow..thank you
¡ Espectacular interpretación!
Was für einen Talent🙏. He’s gifted by a supreme entity. Prezision, Dynamic, sound, he got everything.
Greatest piece of music ever written. True to Bach to my ears- playing, arrangement, and the dedication you put into it. Beautiful video and camera work. Bravo.
ooooh man! what a beautiful interpretation. the sound is so pure!
Wow! That Deep Sound. I Never heard or saw one of these!!
Amazing!
Des jaloux
Sorry.
You now have to find 123 douchebags.
Yup, they are all living in their mom's basement
Honestly probably misclicks
Senza parole. Derek
Without words. No doubt that we are dealing with one of the greatest guitarist of this era. Every performance by him is beyond any human executive ability. Perfection for what belongs to the human being. Dear Moran, I wish you the best he can aspire to in this world. Derek
Great performance of my favorite classical guitar piece!
its not a classical guitar piece
+schnooleheletteletto don't try to be "wise"ofcourse Chaconne is originally for violin. you note is no news...!
then why did you call it a guitar piece
+schnooleheletteletto because I think that an arrangement for guitar is a guitar piece...
but its not
THIS is my favorite conversion from Violin to Guitar and this was absolutely amazing. I tried for almost 8 months to play this piece and could only get like 40% of it technically down ....amazing
magnifique très belle interprétation. ...bravo
The dexterity and precision are just impeccable.
Best chaconne I've ever heard on any instrument.
I agree
not bad for a guitar, but cmon... doesnt hold a candle to violin
it is a beautiful interpretation and i’m honestly in love with it, but have you heard hillary hans chaconne? in my opinion that’s the best one
Unbelievable. The are no words.
That's true. It's all notes.
@@canadianroot I almost grinned
How can I superlike this? It has been yearsa since I've come back for more
