My best friend passed away this year. We watched FMA together many years ago and we grew up listening to this song. It just make me feel that he still here and we can talk about anime any time. I don't know where you are bro, but I want to thank you for these 18 years we had been together. You were the best friend I could have. Rest in peace!
This is actually depressing to read, I hope everything goes your way for a while, life has a funny way of balancing things. The absolute worst has happened to you and everyone else he knew, but now the only way is up right? Things will get better man, I hope you live a good life.
I watched FMA pretty late, especially since Brotherhood was what got me into the franchise, and when I heard this song, I could have sworn I've heard it before. I thought to myself, "isn't this that one intro song from that one flash sonic game I used to play hours on end when I was a kid?", and then I scrolled down to the comments section and... what do you know.
Never skip any opening. Unless it's one of those really annoying comedy anime openings that are sung by the characters in the show and basically just tell you what the show is about. Those can be pretty bad sometimes (some exceptions of course, like Gamers!). Still though, never skip any FMA openings at least.

it's good for 2003 version (which I watched first) but for some reason when it skipped end credits and skipped the next op, it never skipped undo (op3) and since I love that op I never skipped em, so in conclusion, our favorites are all personal, this one is a close second after undo
"Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's first law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only truth." -Alphonse Elric
"---- But the world isn't perfect and the law is incomplete. Equivalent exchange doesn't encompass everything that goes on here, but I still choose to believe in its principle. That all things do come at a price. That there's an ebb and a flow, a cycle that the pain we went through did have a reward and that anyone who's determined and perseveres will get something of value in return, even if it's not what they expected. I don't think of equivalent exchange as a law of the world anymore. I think of it as a promise, between my brother and me, a promise that someday we'll see each other again."
So I just finished watching FMA 2003... I’ll be perfectly honest. I was hooked until the end. After watching brotherhood first, I was intrigued and drawn to this alternative story. While others may say the ending was nothing short of heresy, I saw it as a way to give us hope, that one day, the Elric brothers would be reunited. All in all, I think it was one of the best damn anime of the early 2000s, retaining that classic feel, all while being an inspiration for the future anime to come
Then it pains me to inform you he just passed away yesterday. The notice came in today an hour ago from his sister. May he rest in peace and his legacy carried on by his fans

Got some really fond memories of talking my grandmother into watching FMA '03 with me. She got ADDICTED, and we finished it in a week. Today marks three years since she passed away. I'm gonna go watch some of FMA for her today. I love you, Granny. I miss you.
I love this comment section, because I just started watching fma this month and it's literally older than I am, and reading all these old comments about nostalgia and stuff is really cool Edit: so I just finished fma03 and I absolutely loved it! I'm watching fmab now and hoping it will answer some of the questions that '03 left unanswered, I read that it's the more faithful to the manga anime bc it came out after the manga finished so I'm very excited for the story and characters to be more fleshed out and stuff!
It's amazing how an opening can grow on you with lightning speed. For about 2 episodes, I hated it, but sat through it. On the third episode, I saw the automail hand and heard Melissa. I suddenly loved it.
This anime is a damn masterpiece with Brotherhood. I can never think of a thing to actually trash talk the anime about, that's how good it is. Just a quality story with great characters to watch through and through.
This song suddenly popped into my head today and I couldn’t figure out for the life of me what it was called or where it came from. I had to keep Googling whatever I thought the lyrics were and hope to find a match. I’m so glad I finally found it!
Lyrics: Sever all your pain from memories plagued in vain Stop the endless woe you've come to know Find your heart and soul ;Break through every wall Until you reach your goal Come on chap you hands and fight until you're finally made whole Gazing skyward, and so sure tomorrow will arrive I don't know how I'll get through by myself With my heart in a daze The birds beside me soar away into the endless sky Will the find with their free spirits the light At the end of this maze? Please wait...I want to fly with you Let me on your back to look of my soul All the pain that haunts me to this day will vanish If I just reach up higher, I'll find what I desire I'll never tire 'til I... Sever all your pain from memories plagued in vain And stop the endless woe you've come to know Find your heart and soul ;Break through every wall Until you reach your goal Come on chap you hands and fight until you're finally made whole In the dark of night and sitting in the endless breeze I am bent down to the ground with no strength And I'm lost in despair It's times like these, I wish I had some wings to fly with ease I don't mind even being the melissa sailing high in the air I've tried to stand upon my feet But every time, I fall back down again Maybe this is not the way to find my answer The wind is calling to me, and it is guiding to me free And I will then find... The key to my way out of this abyss of doubt There's no time to wait or hesitate Even if I'm bound, and the key I have isn't the right one found Still, I will end it with the impact of the lock on the ground My soul will shine it's life through the pain and strife If I'm never saved, I'll still be brave If I disappear, my soul will still live on and help you fight your fears And the moonlight will reflect my shadow to show I'm still here

I just started watching this show. It’s older than me. I’ll come back and edit this comment when I’m done with S1, then again after brotherhood. So far it’s really interesting, and I wish I was more interested in it back in the day. S1 (Finished 11/12/21): Wow. That ending was just amazing. Season one was a 10/10 for me. Never a dull moment. It was so great, especially with that twist at the end. I’m gonna watch the movie, then brotherhood. I’ll update again after the movie, so stay tuned. My hopes are high now. S1 Movie (Finished 11/13/21): All I gotta say is that I never expected to see Hitler in anime. The ending was... eh. I hope Brotherhood has a better ending because it kind of breaks the illusion when the ending's revealed. S2 (Finished 2/21/22): Holy shit that’s gotta be one of the best animes I’ve watched. It took me a while bc I had an episode of depression pop up in the middle of it, but my god that was so fucking good. 10/10 all around. It diverted from Fullmetal Alchemist’s first plot, while also being awesome, badass, and not really changing what made FMA be FMA.

Fma is easily the best anime I’ve watched, and among my top 5 best tv-shows ever in general. So just finished the ending I got here to remember a more naive time, when even though still bleak, the early parts of the show was hopeful and optimistic. It fills me with naive hope to listen to this, especially after finishing the final episode.
Watching both it’s not that much darker since they both have the same base elements. But 2003 portrays them a lot darker. For example, the homenculus in this have all been real people at some point, and they create a lot of painful conflict when people who knew who they were supposed to be meet them. Sloth for example is completely replaced by a homenculus in the likeness of Trisha Elric, their mother. She is sloth here, and instead of embodying lazy sloth she embodies ignorant sloth. The element of sloth that is not caring about anything at all, not even the people supposed to be her sons. Without spoiling any more the entire deal with Shao and Nina Tucker... sure it has the same basis, but the first difference is that we spend a lot more time getting to know Nina before... all that. But what makes it so much darker is why happens after... sorry, I can’t spoil. But watch 2003 and you will get what I mean. Sure it had several of the same base elements but 2003 expands on it a lot more.
Bruh I remember this from Sonic Final Fantasy and it’s making me cry because life was so easy back then. I could sit on my computer for hours and play games, now I have responsibilities

Although I prefer Brotherhood, I'm just so thankful we have two anime, two animated movies and a manga to enjoy of this beautiful series. (Fuck the live action tho)
@@djfoster720 its on Netflix. Wriny's hair is WORNG! So is Mustangs. Ed's is okay, but the part of it that sticks up isn't their (and he's a bit too tall). Hughes and Hawkeye are right. Wrath is just plan WORNG. Envy's hair looks funcky in live action. They got Vic to do Ed's voice in the dup though. They got everyone from the English dup to do the dup for the movie in fact. (well the ones for the og anime, not Brotherhood)

Got some really fond memories of talking my grandmother into watching FMA '03 with me. She got ADDICTED, and we finished it in a week. Today marks three years since she passed away. I'm gonna go watch some of FMA for her today. I love you, Granny. I miss you.
i love this opening and fma03 so much😭 this specific opening reminds me of the summertime so much and give so much nostalgia

I believe this is my favorite opening in all of anime history 🫡
It is.
I love this comment section, because I just started watching fma this month and it's literally older than I am, and reading all these old comments about nostalgia and stuff is really cool
Edit: so I just finished fma03 and I absolutely loved it!

No other song slaps me in the face with early 2000s nostalgia than this

Lyrics:
Sever all your pain from memories plagued in vain
Stop the endless woe you've come to know
Find your heart and soul ;Break through every wall
Until you reach your goal
Come on chap you hands and fight until you're finally made whole
Gazing skyward, and so sure tomorrow will arrive
I don't know how I'll get through by myself
With my heart in a daze
The birds beside me soar away into the endless sky
Will the find with their free spirits the light
At the end of this maze?
Please wait...I want to fly with you
Let me on your back to look of my soul
All the pain that haunts me to this day will vanish
If I just reach up higher, I'll find what I desire
I'll never tire 'til I...
Sever all your pain from memories plagued in vain
And stop the endless woe you've come to know
Find your heart and soul ;Break through every wall
Until you reach your goal
Come on chap you hands and fight until you're finally made whole
In the dark of night and sitting in the endless breeze
I am bent down to the ground with no strength
And I'm lost in despair
It's times like these, I wish I had some wings to fly with ease
I don't mind even being the melissa sailing high in the air
I've tried to stand upon my feet
But every time, I fall back down again
Maybe this is not the way to find my answer
The wind is calling to me, and it is guiding to me free
And I will then find...
The key to my way out of this abyss of doubt
There's no time to wait or hesitate
Even if I'm bound, and the key I have isn't the right one found
Still, I will end it with the impact of the lock on the ground
My soul will shine it's life through the pain and strife
If I'm never saved, I'll still be brave
If I disappear, my soul will still live on and help you fight your fears
And the moonlight will reflect my shadow to show I'm still here
Honestly, one of my fave anime openings even to this day! Just gets you kinda hyped, you know? Well, to anyone who sees this, have a good day.

Any updates?
Yeah, sorry. Just starting episode 31 now, actually.

It is that bad? I've only watched the brotherhood version, and i dont think that it can get darker than the "ed...ward" scene, Right!?
I talk about JoJo a lot more because of my friends, but FMA will always be my favorite anime.
And by that I mean both versions of FMA are at the top.
Bruh I remember this from Sonic Final Fantasy and it’s making me cry because life was so easy back then. I could sit on my computer for hours and play games, now I have responsibilities
Best opening ever used on an anime, when you listen to it, you can feel the alchemy inside you.
