Love Octomore but , for me, I try and keep 2 or 3 if I can. They used to be impossible to get in my abc secret drop only state. But have become easier to find outside my state. Probably due to the insane prices now. 13.1 has become my favorite and only one I got a backup too as it is a bbq monster for me. Could never find a bottle earlier than the 10.1.
I really need to expand a bit into scotch. I listen to you and a few others speak so highly of different scotches, and it makes me curious. I have a few bottles at home but i rarely drink any. And I'm really starting to get into American single malts. Cheers, Robert!
That’s a big hurdle for your first one. Try Talisker, Highland Park, and Springbank as launching points. And if peat isn’t for you, no worries. There are so many great scotches that are unpeated.
The reason Octomore (and Port Charlotte) does not smell/taste like other Islay whiskies is because the barley (even that grown on Islay) is (or, at least, was) malted by Bairds of Inverness using mainland peat (from the New Pitsligo/St Fergus area of Aberdeenshire).
I am right there with you. I am a peat head and Octomore is my favorite and will always be on my shelf.
I’m amazed at how many flavors show up besides the peat. Just glorious.
This is a spectacular scotch!
It’s definitely my favorite peated scotch at the moment.
@@Robert.Sheard I understand why! Have a wonderful day! Cheers!

I’ve ordered my last couple from Bruichladdich directly. You pay for shipping, but the price isn’t marked up. Definitely not cheap, though.

If you are enjoying ASM, you’re halfway into scotch already. Hit me up anytime for suggestions.
@@Robert.Sheard I'll do that. I really dig Macallan 12 but I don't know enough to know where I go from there.
@@rogerreese7624 Excellent. I love talking about my own journey into scotch.
I'm still developing my palate for peat. I had the problem of starting my peated Scotch journey with Laphroaig 10. Big mistake!

😂 I was the same way with my Dublin Dr Pepper. Curse Snapple!
😂🥃

Interesting. I knew about their barley but didn't know it was different peat. Is it science, art, or wizardry? 😂
