There are several reasons I watch your channel. You do things that are interesting to me and you do them well. You take the time to place cameras and explain the who, what and why about everything you're doing. You and Melissa are taking care of a special needs member of the family and he is a priority in your everyday lives. This means you are kind and not afraid of hard work.
The kiln is a logical way to expand your business for both you and your legacy. Woodworking is extremely popular today and quality wood is in real demand.
That's another reason I watch and like your channel. You do smart things and do them better than I could. Thank you

Sorry to hear about Hunters seizures. I have a special needs daughter that used to have seizures (she has medication that helps so haven't had one in a while). One time we were out to dinner with my mom (RIP) and Dani was eating her favorite meal of spaghetti and meatballs while sitting across from my mom. She had a seizure and her face just fell straight forward into to her plate. My mother had never witnessed one and she was horrified. Like Hunter, we settled her down, got her home to rest and she was fine after that. Of course, we took home the spaghetti and she enjoyed it there. Another story about Dani, just because you share yours! We were at a wedding out of town and had a hotel room, my wife had a seizure (caused by a brain tumor we were not aware of and it was benign and she is fine now!) and collapsed. Dani just said, "Mommy passed out like I do". She handled it much better than I would have expected. We are all "Doing Great" (as Dani will say) and love your channel and sharing your family experiences

Hi Mike & Melissa, Glad Hunter is Fine, as soon as you said you got a warning about Hunter I actually said "I bet it was Axel", Somehow Pets always have a 6th Sense,
Good on you Axel Extra treats for you.
As for the Kiln building maybe place it where you currently have your container down the Wood yard all things in the same place, so you can cut, store and Dry them in the one place, when you get power to it, you could run a line to the sawmill covered building for lighting if required for those days when there isn't enough daylight with a couple of external spotlights.

Streamline, productivity. You nailed it. When I started our lawn mowing company I was using a push mower. It didn't take long to figure out we had to be more productive, and that meant standon comercial mowers. Once that happened, WOW, as you said, I started getting traction. You are making all the right moves. Don't worry you're not on a pedestal yet.

Hi Mike, For the building to store the wood in, take a look at " Cole the Corn Star" in Iowa. He has some buildings that would look great on your property. They are high bay with white metal on the walls and ceiling with LED lights so nice. You might have to look back a few episodes because most of them now are him restoring his grand father's house.

Hey Mike, We just got done building a kiln. Its 10 X 16, insulated the heck out of it, and we are using a dehumidifier, Three fans circulate the air and an electric shop heater to heat up the air and steralize the lumber. I found it online under "Dehumidification Drying for Small Woodworking Firms and Hobbyist"

  • @ronallen6578

Afternoon Mike, Sorry to hear that Hunter had to go through that. I don't believe there is anything more heart breaking for a parent then their child going through anything. Just glad all is OK. Seeing Hunter at the end and that big smile of his just made things OK. You know Hunter says more with his smile than a lot of people can or do that can speak. Hunter reminds me of a big teddy bear. Says nothing, but is always there smiling and giving a sense of love to all who touch or hug him.
The dry kiln was a logical next step. I've wondered when you might condier one. As long as you had access to the use of one it was never a priority. Inside a building would be great. Your not totally fighting the cold weather trying to maintain the your heat and you may get a little heat in the building during the during process. Win win I guess😊😊
I'm befuddled at the prices normal woodworkers have to pay for lumber these days. A large sawmill near me has a retail store and their prices are such that I couldn't or maybe wouldn't be able to afford anymore. I always had my own lumber cut from logs I bought. Usually veneer grade logs. None of that low grade crap for me. If your going to cut lumber than cut good quality. You'll develop the lower end honestly. Don't need to cut it. Good luck on this venture, it will pay off.

I said Archie but I’m happy Axel/Axle alerted ya & Prayers 🙏🏼that Hunter don’t have any more seizures for a long long time. I have 2 late friends and both of their wives who are still living has the grandma seizures. One is in her late 70’s & the other in her mid 50’s.
My older hunting buddy friend who passed over 10 years ago in his mid 70’s his wife who is in her late 70’s & now. After he passed she had to be placed in a Nursing home because after my Friend passed they had no children or close family who could be with her Incase she had a seizure.
My childhood friend who was in his late 50’s passed in 2022 with the CV 19 his wife she’s in her mid 50’s & affected the same way with grandma seizures. She raised a family and she’s had those seizures since she was in her early 20’s. Her late husband My childhood friend told me she didn’t develop those seizures until after she had some kind of vaccine or flu shot of some sort, back in late 80s-early 90’s, I forget now exactly what year. But both men told me the same exact thing, that their wives didn’t develop those seizures until they’d taken some sort of vaccine or flu shot back in that same time frame. I know the last vaccine I received was in that same time frame mine was in the early 1990’s for some kind of Chinese flu it was a flu vaccine and it made me the sickest I’ve ever been with the flu & I almost died from it !
I made myself a promise that I’d never take another vaccine & I haven't ! But both men said they had to be there with their wives to make sure they didn’t swallow their tongue, hurt themselves or go into a coma. Both women are still living & they’ve had these grandma seizures for about 35+ years give or take a few years. But I really sympathize with You Mike & Melissa and feel bad for Hunter that y’all have to go through this. It’s my opinion that those vaccines has damaged people’s central nervous system and is the root cause of why so many people have came down with many of these conditions. I think they have effected different people in different ways, like myself it gave me the flu in a horrible violent way and I was really lucky to pull through back then. Others it didn’t effect them at first but done damage that has altered their lives & their families lives forever. I remember when I was a kid in the 60’s we had to get the polio and small pox vaccines to go to school and that was it. I still bear the scar from the polio vaccine on my outer shoulder muscle. I think more research needs to be done on each and Every vaccine so that they won’t damage people’s health. But seems that big Pharma wanna keep people sick and with health disorders so they can keep on draining money outta people and their insurance companies. God has a special blue flame place in Hell’s fire for those kind of people who have no regard for other fellow human beings as long as they get rich. Then they just got their organizations to help them cover up their corruption! All I can say is I pray I’m in heaven & already got my pass for Heaven.....And God let’s us all watch him Judge and throw all those evil people into Hell for their evil crimes on humanity’s health on earth for monetary gain! Because whether they like it or Not God’s Judgement is coming.
    God Bless Ya Morgan’s

Just a thought for you up coming kiln project. A friend of mine and former employer has a kiln with doors on both ends and rail system. You can load up a carriage with stickered lumber while the other carriage is in the kiln. When the kiln run is done, you slide out the finished one and immediately slide in the new one. Quick, efficient, and less time to heat up between loads.

By all appearances (I’ve never met you), and by the way you interact with your children, it is evident that you are excellent parents. The world needs more. I hope Hunter is well and there are no more seizures in the near future. For that matter, I hope there are never any more, but I know that is unrealistic. Maybe with prayer, so I’ll be praying for you all. God bless.

Sorry to hear the Hunt man had a seizure. I know how worried you were. A good friend of mine had them frequently without warning. I would try to give him comfort and protect him until the rough part was over but no matter how often I dealt with it each time was as stressful as the first. But talking and comforting and staying composed until it passed was the best way to help. Others paniked and would be upset and scared.I've heard that dogs can sense when a person is about to seize. God bless Hunter and your family.

I would think you need a fill operation over the old road down to the pond, right behind the sawmill or facing it from the house-90 degrees to the left of it right there so you can load lumber onto a machine turn left and load into the kiln. Perhaps you might be able to dredge some nice material out of the pond for that; you had said something about maybe making it bigger and dredging it in the next few years, material could come from there. Buy a mini off road truck such as Elite Earthworks or Dirt Boss has, sell it when you are done moving dirt with it.
Sorry to hear about Hunter having a seizure, I hope he feels better now.

Mike: the same thing is happening here in Canada. "The Plebe" channel is having issues also with his subscriptions. As for the pup, they have a sixth sense and are used for therapy dogs. With the kiln you can produce wood for wood turners and hobby people. As for the brush pile, I use the ashes to plant trees. Put a shovel full of ash into the hole and plop the seedling in. Wet it really good and a few years later poof, you have a tree. As for the new building. Why not put it where your mill is. Use the shelter as the new building and put the mill out in the big clearing. With the building close to the house you do not have to go far to get the wood for deliveries. Also your hydro is there. The mill does not need hydro. Take care and stay safe.

Mike woodworking has been a lifetime experience. Professional woodworking as an advocation. I bought my wood from a sawyer who made his living by the trade. My purchase of wood from him is well north of a thousand board feet. Oak, Pennsylvania cherry, walnut and more. I asked him how he cured his wood. He told me that he built a large box using 2"x4"s sealed it airtight with 1" rigid foam and put a dehumidifier in there along with an electric space heater that he just used to get it up to temperature, and then shut it off letting the warmth from the dehumidifier to finish the job. A hose was placed to allow the water in the dehumidifier to escape to the outside. That's it. I bought many a board from him with a moisture content between 8 and 10 measured on my professional grade Wagner moisture meter.
Am I saying that this is anywhere near as sophisticated, and capable as the new unit you are getting? No, not at all, but in the interest in sheer volume, it could be an add-on to it. He had it installed inside of a non-insulated barn, it has to be inside though.
It is inexpensive, easy to build, and could significantly increase your output. Do I really think you are going to do this? Not really, but I wanted to share it with you anyhow. I absolutely love this channel. You're my favorite. I live in a residential neighborhood with a 725 sq ft shop in the finished whole house size basement. I'm going to be starting my woodworking channel soon thanks to your inspiration.

I have seen Kilns like that and it sounds like the guy you dealt with had it figured out. There is a lot to drying lumber to make a good product. You don’t want to dry to fast, to slow, to much heat, not enough heat and avoid case hardening

I am honored to hear from you. Yes force drying wood too quickly can be problematic. Some even give the wood a little time to season after coming out of the kiln. Thanks for the reply Mike. Hey Mike. I didn’t get the notification until this morning (28 February). I’m with Hunter. More sleep equals better health. I keep thinking of that comment about you “ruining your land” every time I see one of your videos. Funny stuff….😅

I don’t believe in “luck”. I believe in divine intervention. I believe you all do too and that is why I believe you are so blessed. That is also why I watch your channel. Also, I might add you are very smart in your business decisions. And finally, hi Hunter!

As a kid I watched after a family member who had seizures. He was my uncle but three years younger. I would miss many things like ball games and winter sports just to be there. I figured it was more important to watch over him when the rest of the kids were busy. Having a big heart and compassion helped me through tough times but I look back now and smile. I missed a lot but I became my own man - always looking out for the little guy. I can see it in your eyes too. God bless!!

Love the educational information about people who have unique life challenges! Speaking on behalf of my brother. There have been many uniquely individual events that have taught me to realize we all are uniquely individuals.

Mike, Our hearts go out to you and your family. No one knows what it is like until they walk in your shoes. I once witnessed a truck stop waitress instantly stop a seizure by squeezing a lemon wedge. Thank you so much for sharing your life and bearing your soul with us. God has a blessing waiting for you all.

I plowed snow on the side for several years. Residents and a couple church’s. Didn’t make any money. I would have a loss or break even. Had to stop it because it was a waste of my time. I enjoyed doing it. Live and learn.

Give axel an extra hug and treat. Back in 1998 my mom had heart issues. Our dog Gigi placed herself under my mom when she passed out in the kitchen. Kept her from hitting the cabinet and counter. She stayed next to mom till help arrived. Luv your pets, they are family too.

Mike, I know exactly what you guys are going through. My brother who is 53, I'm 51, has suffered from grand mal seizures since he was 7. He has one at least once a month. They can last from 30 seconds to three or four minutes. Afterwards, he usually falls asleep, just as Hunter did. They are extremely scary to watch. Sometimes we can predict when one is imminent based on a slight behavior swing or surrounding stress. But most of the time is just spontaneous. Once one starts, there's almost nothing you can do except keep him from getting hurt. Head injuries from my brother bumping his head during a seizure have sent him to the ER many times. He now wears a bump cap almost 24/7. And yes, Axle knew exactly what was going on and what to do. They train dogs to do just what Axle did. For some reason dogs can sense a seizure before it happens. Nobody can explain it, it's just a dog thing. Anyway, I just wanted to let you know that others share your experience. Best of luck to you, Hunter and your entire family. Love your videos!!

I fully understand the decent limbs going into the burn pile. For many years I culled every piece that would feed the wood stove. Now I have 80 acres of woods and a lot must be harvested for proper forestry management. The burn pile gets a bunch that would never have gone there a few years ago.

Kiln! Mike, I know you don't see all the comments... Just to many...
I built a kiln once for firewood! A simple connex with a door in each end... pull these small trailers in and out... Each trailer held a cord,, and it fit three trailers. Trailers were built from rerod.... Four days to dry three/ four cords... We put a big wood stove feeding its heat into the connex and a fan pushing it to the other end, with a dehumidifier. It would work great for lumber to...

With the firewood totes I watched the u tube video where you cut out the whole of the side of the tote and would like to suggest that you make the cage section you cut off swing from the top of the tote like a dump truck rear gate to unload and automatically latch when it closes. You will need to get some sort of (split) bearing for it to swing and latches for the sides. with possible a wire rope to pull with a hook from the cabin of the skid loader to unlatch the latches.
