Breaking Bad is a drama television series created & produced by Vince Gilligan for AMC. man, if they REALLY wanted to double down on the retcon of gus having kids, they should’ve matched a few of the toys seen in this episode with some of the ones in BCS with mike and kaylee. that way, for nerds like us, it further pushes the idea that mike was responsible for “staging” gus’s house.

With the scene of the toys at Gus's house - I don't think it's completely far fetched that he has these toys for when he has guests come over who bring their children. It's an odd detail, but I'm aware this is something that does happen. I just figured his line "kids won't eat it" meant that he'd love to prepare this for other guests but wasn't able to because of their children. Also celebrating my first member shout-out

There is a reference to "How I met your mother" in this episode, when saul says "Drumroll, please, wait for it... Lasertag". "Drumroll, please" is a name of one episode, and "wait for it" with a pause is a phrase which Barney uses in How I met your mother. Barney also a big fan of laser tag. And Bryan and Bob did act in that show too

Crazy how Jesse selling meth at an NA meeting was such a catalyst for so many key points in the plot later on. If he never did this, never would have met Andrea, so Brock would never be around. So Walt would have never been able to poison him to turn Jesse against Gus, also if poisoning Brock never happened, when jesse was going to leave town and "disappear", he never would have realized heull lifted the ricin after his drugs being lifted, so he never would have came back to try to burn down walts house and subsequently get involved with hank and gomie and everything that followed. Then the Nazis killed Andrea and had the threat of Brock to use against Jesse to keep him docile and subsurvient, so they never would have had that trump card, all thought they probably would have just used his parents or brother tho. But still he probably would have never been in the Nazis custody if he had left town and wasnt in the desert with hank.
It's crazy how much shit happened just bc this one decision and how different things would be. It almost puts a perspective on everything realizing it's karma for Jesse trying to sell to people who are actively trying to get clean which can be seen as borderline evil.
That is an amazing way to think about that! Yeah, who knows what could have been if Jesse didn’t try this evil scheme. (On the other hand, he and Walt might have just been killed by Gus! 😂)

i had no idea about the gus family stuff. interesting retcon, was it done to make him more mysterious? its kind of hilarious to imagine him having teenage daughters walking past mike and his guys every single day
I’m not sure when they changed their mind, but sometime next season by the time they wrote the Max flashback. And it ended up being a defining trait that he would no longer let himself be in any relationship because of the danger!
Honestly, I didn't think much of this channel since it seemed like one of those lazy Top 15 channels, but by now this is the third video i stumbled onto and it really is fascinating how well you know your stuff and can transfer your idea onto video like this. Definitely subbed and willing to support you in the future, under 10k subs is really not enough for a channel as well managed as this one

My theory for the kid stuff is this is all one of the houses in the long network of houses in the entire neighborhood of safe houses that he is shown to have in BCS. Toys probably have always been there to look lived in and he probably picked it to make it the back story. I doubt Gus would ever let anyone know exactly where he lived. I feel like every aspect of it is just one big power play.
I like that! The part I struggle with is that you’d think he’d have a consistent story as part of his very public persona, including family and address.

Well, as more people discover the channel, all the videos keep getting viewed more, so maybe one day! 🙂 The info comes from several online sources, DVD commentary, the insiders podcast, etc. And every once in a while I make my own discoveries in the process of editing these and zooming in on as many details as I can.

This was John Shiban's last contributiom as a writer (co-writer, in this case). Bryan got quite pissed off at him whilst filming the episode, but I don't know if it was coincidental or if it had something to do with his departure. He remained as a consulting producer (IIRC) for S4 and then directed three BCS episodes years later.

it just hit me. When was the last time Gus had a knife out in front of him? When he killed his own henchmen. Now he's handing one to Waltuh and asking him if he'd like to cut something. That may be what the dinner's about. Subtext. You m3ntioned it when u Saud it was about Jesse and Gus when he talked about not making the same mistake twice. He wants Walt to kill Jesse or let him do it.
To be fair, I now know what Gus killed his own henchmen and looked right at Waltuh while doing it. To show him how it's done as well as intimidation and anger at the fact that Waltuh's attachment to his partner led to that trouble in the first place.
Nevertheless, the connection to Box Cutter is interesting!

Where do you get copies of the scripts from each episode?

IIRC they show that Combo got shot through the neck in one of the previous episodes at the DEA office with ...a mugshot of Combo's corpse(???) alongside Tuco and everyone else on the corkboard. They show a bullethole in his neck in the corpse mugshot and I think Hank even mentions that he got shot through the neck too. It might've actually been an episode after this one, but yeah we don't really see that he was shot in the neck when it actually goes down - it's just something that's referenced for the rest of the show though.
EDIT: Yeah, S2E13 "ABQ" Hank brings up Christian Ortega, aka "Combo", and it's a corpse mugshot with a bullethole in his neck. "This dude is so low-rep he never showed up on our radar."
EDIT2: Yup, "...since baby-Jesus-thief there slowed a bullet with his neck..."

🙂 I used to pronounce the “a” sound differently, but then I heard Thomas Schauz pronounce it and I switched to go with that!
Once again, we learn just how dangerous Holly is going to be in the sequel show. She'll get her parents' brains and good looks. I hope Flynn becomes the DEA agent who's estranged from the family and he has to track down his sister who, by chance, found herself in Alaska. Since she's the spitting image of Skylar but she talks like Walt, Jesse immediately knows who she is. He's now compelled to get her back to Ay-Bee-Quay-Quay but they're being chased by Walt Jr., who got that Dodge after all and this time, he and Lewis are in the saddle. The first leg is to get to Skinny Pete (we'll finally learn his last name). But before that, they have to find Jimmy In&Out for information about how to locate Badger. Enter Gus's daughters. As it turns out, the feds couldn't seize all of Gus's assets because they were well-layered and he had nothing liquid. So they're on the hunt because they now want a piece of Jesse becuase Jesse's partner killed Gus. Meanwhile, Anna Gunn gets her wish to go on a road trip because Skylar, who's become a recluse, has now developed a specific set of skills a la Sarah Connor.

I haven't yet found out a way to put Kailey Ehrmentraut into the game yet but we'll have to wait and see if the show gets picked up. She'll be the tragic star of the second season. Anyway, Holly, being guarded only by a seasoned Jesse, has to stay off the grid because The Fring girls have a buttload of resources. Walt Jr. has essentially gone rogue to find his wandering sister. And the only set of clues to find Skylar are a series of crossword puzzles, FILLED IN INK (because that's how Walt met Skylar). Now what we didn't know is that Pete stopped slumming it and he has actually now passed the bar. It was he who now has to take care of the rest of Holly's trust. You see, Gretchen and Elliot saw him as a charity case but they never knew his entire back story. But Pete finds out about the trust and he's desperate to see Jesse (who's his hero and shit) and he's also dying to make sure Holly is taken care of because he was eavesdropping attentively when Walt bluffed Gretchen and Elliot. That memory stuck with him.
Maybe Brock and Kailey end meeting in high school. So not that they're 20-ish, they're trying to find themselves and deal with the grief of having lost loved ones at such a young age. We'll save that thread for later.
I'm not a writer and as you can see, I'm not terribly imaginative either. But I fantasize about a last leg of the story. Jesse never got off free. And in my mind, the fact that he lost 2 girlfriends over the crime crap and the fact that he was a slave for a year is punishment enough for Gus. The fact that he was going to make it right (or die trying) with Gus's street dealers for killing Tomás, by means of blazing swords, absolves Jesse for the murder of Gail. It sucks because I liked Gail but we all know that Gail and Price were disposable.
Most of all, we finally get to see Huell walk out of that damned safehouse.
@@betterwatchtv he goes by his middle name because after finishing his JD at a very young age, he failed the bar. He didn't want to bring shame to his father, Cliff (who's a damned good musician and he passed those chops to onto his boy). So with the weight of the world on his shoulders, he turned to drugs like a lot of highly intelligent people often do. That's part of why Gretchen and Elliot reach out to him later during a talent search. They pretended their charity was for altruism. Charlie Rose said it was guilt about Walter. But the real truth is that, like they always have done, they're angling; they're looking for the best and the brightest ideas and if not, they're looking for the best and brightest people they can exploit and buy out for pennies just like they did to Walt. But this time it's different. Pete was listening attentively when Walt had them use those laser pointers. He knows almost everything that we, the viewers know. But since he's a hero, he's gotta be the guy at the helm who's directing Jesse as the muscle to escort Holly home in one piece while staying undetected, himself.
