I rented one for a road trip a few years ago and was pleasantly surprised. The ride was composed and quiet. Despite having a cheap feeling interior, it was ergonomic and easy to use. I used to disdain GM products but this model has changed my perception.

Can I just add to this. I'm considering getting a 2022 Malibu as my next car, and I wanted to add how it feels. I've lived with a Toyota Camry LE almost all my life, and the camry feels NOTICEABLY cheaper than the Malibu. I do agree that some aspects of the Malibu are made cheaply, but compared to something like a Camry, the car felt like a Cadillac. For the record, I'm not saying the camry is a bad car by any means. Mine has maybe 141k miles, and it's almost never given up on me, I love it to death, and I'll always swear by the camry as an amazing first car. That said, compared to a Malibu, you just get more out of the Malibu than you would a Camry.

Funny you mentioned it my mom traded her 2006 Camry LE for a 2022 Camry LE. It’s disappointing to see how much Toyota has downgraded their interiors nowadays as closing the door sounds like a tin can. I know what you mean by feeling Cadillac like. The doors in the Malibu shut with a refined thunk and the ride is refined and quiet.

@@TheCalHoonigan Former 2016 1LT owner here. The 9th Gen (this video your seeing) GM triple sealed the doors so nearly no wind noise can come in. Also they used double pane windows throughout the car hence why the NVH is quite good. Early reviews of the 2016+ said some can argue it quieter than a MB C or E class or even bmw 3 series. When its comes down to reliability.....well Toyota still holds the crown for that imho.

I just came back from a trip to Dallas, and I totally agree! I daily drive a Jeep Cherokee and it shocked me how much more composed this car was! The interior was very quiet as well! Honestly not sure why Chevy gets so much hate this car would definitely be a steal imo.

I'm currently in a 24 malibu rental and this is the most comfortable ride I have felt since my mother's '03 Cadillac Deville. I literally feel like I'm sitting on a lazy boy 😮. My joints are in love with this car. I now want to trade my Sonata for the Malibu which gets the same gas mileage but roomier. The visibility could be improved and the sun visors are inadequate but the ride is just wonderful.

I rented a 2023 Malibu for 3 days, 2 weeks ago. The car looks amazing and drives quite nice too. However, I had problem getting in and out of the driver seat due to my thigh getting stuck a bit under the steering every time. I am only 5'7" and 107 KG. Also the accelerator pedal was too close to the right wall leaving my foot in uncomfortable position. I had foot ache due to that every night.

They had planned to end production of the malibu this year and had terminated plans for a new generation. A few months ago, GM has re started designs for a new generation ICE malibu given the shift of the market.
Funny enough, ford had also announced they were not planning on having sedans for sale. However a few weeks ago the ceo said they were now planing on bringing a new gen Taurus to the US. Although given my research the new Taurus is likely the new gen Ford fusion/mondeo that is currently being sold in other markets. For every stop, it took a bit to accelerate. So, I knew 1.5 vs 2.0 now. I just rented one of these, did a decent mix of city and highway. Fuel economy decent. The noise isolation and ride quality are the best things about this car. I didn’t mind the cvt, it’s pretty responsive. I’ve rented a few other cars in past few months, Accord, Camry, Sonata and a Sentra. The interior quality and finish on the Toyota and Honda are excellent, the Sentra was less so, the Chevy is worse on the interior in basically every respect. Seats are poorly designed and not comfortable for long periods, and the radio sound is not amazing. Also in terms of self driving features it is severely lacking. Basically every car has radar cruise and sophisticated lane keep assist steering, this car does not have the former and the steering assist is not very intelligent, doesn’t work well at all. In this respect Honda has the best system. I don’t know how much cheaper this thing is than accord but it would be kinda hard to justify the savings, price would be the only factor in making me want to buy one of these. Pretty much what I expect from GM, not terrible but markedly worse than the competition

My neighbor bought a 2018 Malibu brand new. One day she asked me to wash and wax it for her. Doing thins gives me a real close look at the build quality, and it's some of the worst I've ever seen. I'd takes Camry any day.

I'd rather go for the Nissan Altima awd model than the Malibu eventhough some consider the Nissan a loser sedan. I used to think Toyota was tops with their Corolla snd Camry but now not so much. Why? They're everywhere it seems. Too common! I know Nissan's cvt may be a headache but I'd rather go that route and chance it than going Toyota. I'm not a hater just turned off to the brand itself. If the Malibu offered awd I'd consider it, maybe. Peace...🙏♐

Someone hit and totaled my 2016 Sonata, which was an amazing car, so the insurance company rented me a Malibu. I did not like my time with the Malibu. It was at best underwhelming in most aspects and downright horrible in others. I ended up bying a 2024 k5 gt-line and i absolutely love this car. It was between an Accord and a k5 and so far I am happy with the k5.

This car started off as a pretty mediocre and cheaply designed car. Then as the years went by GM stopped caring about it. So the production process and QC are probably bad too.
It’s a lose lose vehicle. If you don’t have to, don’t buy it. Toyota Camry, Honda Accord, or even the Subaru Legacy are much better vehicles. Not the Nissan Altima though, don’t buy that.
