- Welcome back - thanks for joining me again! This week, we have ventured out into stunning Stirlingshire - an area of Scotland that we haven't explored on this channel yet.
We visit a stunning viewpoint - the ancient rallying place of Clan MacLaren - which looks down across an area that is steeped in history. I visit the burial place of the infamous Rob Roy MacGregor and learn more about this folk hero's life.
The walk through the wooded glen turns into a magical landscape with strange mushrooms popping up just waiting to be photographed and painted!

I am of Clan MacLaren, Balquidder my ancestral home! Through you I was able to in my spirit actually SEE my Scottish home; this being HOLY GROUND for me. What an unspeakable gift you have given to me & my family. Here in the states we are from Memphis, Tennessee on the great MISSISSIPPI River & proud to be from the SOUTH as well. I turn 70 this year; can now say I have seen my ancestral home before I die. 1990-was in Edinburgh, the closest I came to Balquidder. May the LORD bless you & shine HIS fact upon you & give you peace! Thanks ever so much---

A fantastical walk, amongst romanticised history, walking maybe in the steps of warriors and warriors children, trying to beat the elves to the mushroom elixer of the morning, what a view. Right I'm off to Willys.
Thank Bryce! You can actually eat elf cup mushrooms, but I thought I should leave them for the elves :)

Honored to see Rob Roy MacGregors grave site, it is a beautiful place. The hill with the rock monument where clan MacLaren gathered somehow was silencing. Just can not imagine all of how life was in the time past when the alarm was raised and the whole clan rallied to that very place! Jack will be fit to ramble again soon and he knows he is loved and being cared for. Awesome art work, beautiful. Thank you Sarah for a fine Spring time adventure.
Thank you Greg. I really can't think of many more beautiful and serene places to be at rest (although in his time I think it was a bit more raucous with various clashes between clan members!). Jack is doing much better now, so he will be back to his usual mis-adventures next week :)
Many years ago after we had emigrated to Canada, a Canadian couple we had befriended went to Scotland where they stayed with my parents. They had heard so many stories about Scotland and its history so an obvious place that they visited while on their honeymoon, was the grave of Rob Roy MacGregor. A couple of years later, they named their first born son, Rob Roy. and his name was never shortened.
You have taught me so much about the country I grew up in.
The Highlands remind me so much of many parts of Canada. Lovely.

I use to walk with my 4 dogs.... all in doggie heaven now and I can no longer go on long walks so your channel is a great alternative. Scotland was on my bucket list but unfortunately it sprang a leak.

Such a beautiful peaceful place, I've never seen elf cup mushrooms before, I love the idea of elves drinking out of them, I love the magic and mystery of Scotland too, unfortunately I'm laid up at the minute with a badly sprained ankle, so my son and my sister have been walking my dog for me, it's so annoying having to walk at a snail's pace, I can't wait till I can walk on it properly and go one of my River Clyde walks with Buster.

Thank you! I understand how you feel - when I had my ankle operation, I had to rest on every bench while walking around the local park. I felt so slow, but it will get better! I see what you mean about the colours haha! They are a winter mushroom, so maybe we could use them as decorations this year!
This is my favourite of your walks so far. The sound of the water and the view from the hill was stunning. It brings back memories of my trip to Scotland in 2005. The colours of the mushrooms are stunning. Thank you for sharing. ❤️🇨🇦

I agree about Scotland feeling magical. I tell folks that I really need to see Norway & Germany, homeland of my Great-grandparents, so I don't keep fantasizing about Scotland (I've been there twice!)

I love your walks, seeing places I haven't been for a long time. We moved from Kinross to Alva in Clackmannanshire. Alva Glen is a beautiful walk and up to the Ochil hills. Missed Jack Spaniels, hope he recovered quickly. Your painting is absolutely beautiful. X

Shame you didn't venture to my home village of Strathyre, a stones throw from Balquhidder, the forest is exquisite, but good to see Loch Lubnaig and Callander on the video. Such a beautiful part of Scotland. Nice shout out to Mhor84 too, the roast dinners are sooooo good there, Jack would have loved Mhor for sure! Thank you for sharing your walk with us!

Haha! I admit that a few tiny ones came home with me to go in a tiny bottle...but we have so much interesting stuff in the house from Willie's various treasure hunting adventures that I have to be very strict about what I bring back!!
Spring has officially arrived!! I missed your "absent wee pal", Jack. I hope his paw will heal quickly and he'll be back taking in all the sniffs he can on the next walk. That view overlooking the loch was incredible. What a place to go and relax and read a book while enjoying nature. I have always wanted to visit Scotland and this is a great way to enjoy it in the mean time. Love the colors in your painting Sarah - very stunning.

From the views here I can see why so many Scots came to the mountains of North Carolina in the US. So much similar landscape of mountains and forests.
And Pennsylvania. My ancestry on mothers side was 100 % scots and tgey settled in PA.

A bit late watching as the wife was away and we love to watch your videos together. What a lovely area and walk. Shame about Jack hope his foot heals soon, but nice to meet Jock. I would of left with a bag full of that quartz 🤪 beautiful painting of the Scarlet elf cups, your water droplets look real. May have to go back to this area again. I stayed a couple of times in the Mhor 84, or as it was known the the King's house. Look forward to tomorrow's post... looks like somewhere like Sky, or one of the islands, but will see

I absolutely adore going for a walk with you, beautiful scenery and history. The only thing that would make this perfect is if you allow us to listen to more nature than music (The birds, your footstep, waterfalls or just forests mystical sounds). Lots of hugs to both of you and of course Jack!

Wow, another beautifully scenic place. It seems they abound in Scotland. I loved the walk but I must admit I missed Jack. Again, I am struck by the amazing job you do with the videography. I always like when you get the boot view as you're walking, but this time you had some underwater views looking up! How cool is that! From the ground to the air...it's a beautiful job and gives us a true feel of where you are and what you're seeing. I loved your café stop as usual. I saw you were drinking my favorite coffee brand too (illy). I discovered it first in Italy and then saw it throughout Europe. It's what I drink at home now every day. :-) I've never seen, or heard of, Scarlet Elf Cup Mushrooms but they're just beautiful. You captured their beauty perfectly and somehow even got the water droplets inside. You are incredibly talented. Lastly I have to tell you how much I enjoy the music too. It's so relaxing that I want to fall asleep. I don't because I don't want to miss anything. But...maybe I'll turn it on again, this time just to enjoy a nap. ;-D Thank you so much for these wonderful videos.

I’ve been watching your walk and paint videos and I’m finding them so relaxing I drifted off to sleep last night! I think it was the beautiful music and scenery combined with the gentle narration and watching the painting at the end. I caught up with what I missed the next morning ☺️
