One of Eric’s best records. It’s evident he’s paying tribute to Duane Allman with his dobro part in this Scott Boyer song. Duane played on the original by Cowboy.

This is by far and away Eric's best 'solo' album. Everything works here; songs, singing, playing.

My opinion exactly. It's captures that laid back Robert Johnson Tom dowd vibe like no other. A mix of folk and blues delivered by a band that finds it's groove every cut. Timeless. Blows Cream out the back door.

How in hell is this album considered underrated? Top 40 and in many countries Top 10, all around the world. At least 2 incredibly popular singles released and appears on many greatest album lists from major music magazines. So it gets popular and critical acclaim but of course that must be what makes it 'underrated'.

    • @spello8191
      @spello8191 3 ปีที่แล้ว

@@tonyrobertson1085 it’s beyond belief really. It’s an album that’s comes from the heart of what Clapton was going through at the time. It’s my understanding that the album was complete in just 2 weeks. It’s one of my all time favourite albums! An absolute classic!!

In 1979 I moved across town and hooked up with a new friend and we immediately began introducing each other to our album collections. He has this album. I'd never heard of it. Fell in love with "Please be with me" and "Let it grow". Could listen to them forever.

Something similar happened to me in around '86. I'd always associated Clapton with Derek and the Dominos, but nothing slow and 'yin' as this. I asked her: "Who is this?" When she told me, I was in disbelief.

Saw Clapton when touring for this album in Pittsburgh, PA 1974. Yvonne Elliman opened the show (also provided backup vocals to Clapton), then Carlos Santana, followed by Clapton. Carlos and Elliman both joined him for a few songs. Part way through the set, it started raining. We were in the Pittsburgh Civic Center that had the retractable roof open. Once the rain started coming down, the band stopped for about 15 seconds, the roof started closing, then Clapton jumped into “Let It Rain” and the place erupted. Possibly the best concert I saw; but then, I’ve seen many.

    • @ChristopherDavis-uh1gq

@Alexander Henry I'm a Georgia native and consider the Allman Brothers one of the best bands of all time. Duane was a great guitarist. No one comes close to his slide playing. But he didn't really write. And to say he was a better man than Clapton... I guess you mean as an artist. Clapton was defiinitely more talented than Duane all things considered. And Clapton's version of this song is the best and it's not even close.

Oh my word, what does it mean?
Is it love or is it me
That makes me change so suddenly?
    Looking out, feeling free.
Sit here lying in my bed,
Wondering what it was I'd said
That made me think I'd lost my head,
When I knew I lost my heart instead.
Won't you please read my signs, be a gypsy.
Tell me what I hope to find deep within me.
Because you can find my mind, please be with me.
Of all the better things I've heard,
Loving you has made the words
And all the rest seem so absurd,
'Cause in the end it all comes out unsure.
Won't you please read my signs, be a gypsy.
Tell me what I hope to find deep within me.
Because you can find my mind, please be with me.
