You know something I have some memories of this song when I first visited New York back in 1992 and I agree it's a catchy song and it also sounds motivational.
I feel like after 9/11 New York slowly lost its New York spirt. After Hurricane Sandy happened it seemed like New York was gaining back their New York spirt with the Sandy concert but then you realized that they didn't. It's sad because even though New York is still great, amazing, and fantastic I don't think it will ever gain back it's New York spirt like it shows in this video.

Wonderful diverse faces of NYC from all over the world. Tune I still have never forgotten, Probably the best TV channel promo I ever saw and they used all of the News Center 4 people as well....

The reason why the recovery ended was because of the repo market collapsing. You're thinking of the 1980's. The Transit Authority eliminated grafitti from trains by like 1989 or 1990, and it probably helps that the trains shown were among the newest in the system at the time of this being filmed.
