Always loved watching Darts, we used to think these guys were amazing, but it shows just how good today’s stars are! Still like the old characters tho.
Believe me, these guys off tv could still play like they could today, 9 dart legs were often seen on the floor, most ranking tournaments back then were all on floor before final stages and I once seen Bristow hit three ten dart legs in a row
The game was more pure back then, and Eric and Bobby are darting royalty but you can see the standard has massively improved now, they wouldn't be in the top20 of players now
I played darts in local league for over 35 years,i can remember the atmosphere, smoke everywhere, drinks on tables, those were the days, from Malcolm in Rainy Hove England.
Bobby really blew that leg. The D9 was poor but he should’ve hit T10 instead of T16 his last dart so he wouldn’t hit a S9 and not have a second chance at a double
Remember, this was just four years after he picked up a dart for the first time! He admits himself his counting wasn't great. Bobby in 92 wouldn't have gone T16, it was an unfortunate consequence of his speedy rise to the top that led him to miscount and lose the game.
GB had a chance to take the throw off Bristow but couldn't take advantage. And then that double at the end :( But BG did OK - he was the first darts millionaire.
Shame Bobby George didn't win the world title since he is/was one of the best not to win but he says like others he won the news of the world championship which was more harder to win.
Jim Bowen: Bobby George here. We'll ask him to get 301 or more with 9 darts tonight. We hope he can, cuz we'll double it. Here we go. Are you ready, Bobby? Bobby George: Pardon, Jim? Jim Bown: Best of luck.......are you ready? Bobby George: Eh? Speak up. Can't hear you. Jim Bowen: He's pissin' deaf!!
That's a true story, it was in Bristow's autobiography, Bristow kissed him on the cheek because they both knew it was a joke and were good friends, that's just how they spoke to each other back then, bring it back tbh.
@BawlinBee Yes, I've seen that Blood on the carpet-darts documentary, it's been uploaded on here. Brilliant documentary and Eric was always behind what was good for the game.
i got a 10 pound note signed by bobby george where him an my dad had a game of darts with the note in the middle of the board and u have to get all three darts within the note gd times
wat a clown the referee is saying best of order whilst bobby was trying to finish. It was obvious that put him off a great deal just by the sheer distance of the miss. SHoulda gone to deciding set and who knows wat could of happened
Hi Before the game in the practice room, George went up to Bristow and rattled off some rubbish poem, he had written about how he going to beat Eric. Bristow just ignored him and carried on playing. At the end of the game, Bristow went to George and said "where is your f******g poem now pal" which is why George looks a bit embarrassed and lost for words.
Bristow was averaging just under 100 in the mid 80’s. It was only when players like Phil Taylor and Dennis Priestley came along and started averaging over 100. Also from 93 onwards where John Lowe’s average was in the 80’s and for a number of years the BDO world championship were won with averages well below Bristow in his heyday so I am far from convinced by that statement.
Sid Waddell wasn't the best counter atall..I seen him making mistakes when it came to players set up shots. When Bobby George was on 141 he hit treble 20 and was going for treble 15 to leave double 18. When he hit the single 15 It left him 66. Why he was going for 16 I don't know, but hitting treble 16 left him 18. Sid waddell said it was a great shot.. it wasn't a great shot. Who wants to leave 18.. he should have went for treble 10..

A few years after this match Phil Taylor the GOAT was dominating the game. As much as I loved the players from my childhood in the 80s & 90s none of them would of stood a chance against Taylor.

Everyone will have their favourite era in darts. This is mine. ❤ 🎯
My favourite era full stop.
I didn't actually know how this finished and I've never wanted a man to win so much in my life as Bobby George in this match.
Why
