Exactly 3 years ago today (August 14, 2019), Van Niekerk ran this incredible 400 meter world record. In my humble opinion, it's one of the best track and field world records of all time. What do you all think?
Love Wayde Van Niekirk brilliant 400 metres runner, stunning World record in Rio in 2016, what I also like about him is his MODESTY none of this postering like bolt.
Every athlete has their own personality. Bolt shows confidence with fun rather than arrogance, which was entertaining and a breath of fresh air. This has endeared him to audiences across the world. Wade's own humility and achievements have also been wonderful to behold. It's nice to have variety that makes the sport more intriguing
Yeah Daisy it was a great 100m race for sure! People forget that Tyson Gay posted 9.71!!! ... for 2nd place. I can't think of more than a few races he wouldn't have won with that time!
Fantastic video man! I'm not a sprinter but I love watching Van Niekirk! He has such a beautiful technique and his ability to maintain speed in the last 100m of the 400 is incredible!
Its about quality not quantity. A lot of that training would have been useless and only impede his recovery from the beneficial part of his program. The top athletes are often at the top due to awesome genetics and would prosper no matter what coach they had and can thrive off a great variety of training programs, even the wrong training programs, Usain Bolt being the most obvious example. More training doesn't mean better performance, there's a limit to what the body can recover from, pure and simple. If you go over the threshold of what you can recover from, you're only hurting yourself. This is reality not a fucking Rocky movie where hard work/inspiration wins. Being as close to reality and what best suits your body training wise is what will garner the best results.
What an inspiring and humbling story! He is by far my favorite athlete. I hope he is strong enough to come back for 2020, he deserves another shot at sub 43. Great job, this was an awesome video!
Great vid as usual. Please also consider that he ran 300m in 30.81s making him the only athlete to have run a sub 10s 100m, sub 20s 200m, sub 31s 300m and a sub 44s 400m (which will soon become a sub 43s!!!! At least that is the dream for us Saffa's) PB's: 100 m: 9.94 (2017) 200 m: 19.84 (2017) 300 m: 30.81 WB (2017) 400 m: 43.03 WR (2016) = #legend Thanks for the great content. Keep it up.

Much props to the Champ! Many factors got to winning this. What I see Is that it matters who you have around you for they can push you beyond what you think you can do.
Michael Johnson is the greatest 400 runner, in his prime in door/outdoor he rarely if ever lost. Ran more sub 44 400's outdoor, only person to run 42.9 on one of his 2 4x400 relay records!
@@captainamericaamerica8090 A relay is different but the fact is NO runner including Van has ever run sub 43 on a relay and as I said lane 8 was an advantage. MJ has run way more sub 44 open 400's than Van. MJ didn't lose a 400 race for 2 years, only thing Van has is that 43.03 where all he had to do from lane 8 is sprint the 1st 200 coast the 3rd curve and kick it home the final 100.
@@captainamericaamerica8090 MJ never ran from lane 8 because in order to do so you have to run a slow time to end up in lane 8. If he had he would have run a 42 second open 400 m
On that stat chart at the end, Michael Johnson appeared to live in the low to mid 43 second range. He was on there at least 10 times compared to Wade's 3 times.
Small note I think its weird formatting to bring up the lane 8 difficulty so much but never take a second to state how he got it waht gavehim sucha "bad" qualifying race?
Amazing I remember that race I was pretty excited about it.. My best in the 400 M was 49.70 sec at 18 years old and the 800 M at 1.54 .. Now forget about it 😂😂😂 Great video 👍
Now, 5 years after his injuryn it seems like he's really back. In the last race of the season he run a seasons best of 44.33. I'm so freaking excited for next season. Will he break the 44 barrier again in his career? He is really a great man i would be really pleased for him. Fingers crossed!^^
Im not to sure about 2015 but in 2016 Wayde was definitely not the favorite to win the 400m. He had a 47 second season opener and hadn't broken 44 seconds until that world record and ran very sparingly on the international circuit, running in Monaco, Rome, and Jamaica to name a few. If anything it was Lashawn that was favorite because of his showing over 200m of 19.74 and the fact that he was the first and only to go sub 44 with a 43.97 performance at the U.S championships. It also wasn't until some time after Wayde had admitted to a lower back injury that was causing serious issues the entire 2016 season which was the cause for lack of competing.
@@gtanz8475 agreed! 'Touch' rugby or not, it is still a lot more risky than taking a shower. JK Rai talks like rugby is some board game, like chess or checkers.

A lane 8 assignment also indicates that the runner did not finish high in the semi-finals of the event. This is why it is usually considered an upset if lane 8 wins. It is implied that he/she is not in as good a form as those in lanes 4 or 5.
Micheal Norman is about to shatter his record. 2020 Tokyo olympics where there’s actual competition for Norman, he’s going sub 43. Y’all heard it here first
I believe he may have been able to break the 200 WR with that combination of 100m speed and 400m endurance, at worst he was a potential 19.3 or 19.4 runner
Well in a way, he didn't have the potential to really improve his 200 m times since he got too much injured running the shorter distances. As stated in the video, it was the reason for him switching to 400 m instead of his former main event, the 200 m. Theoretic potentials by doing calculations and interpolating the "possible times" are useless if a person can't spend the time to actually train for it. Same thing with all the people claiming the Bolt would have beaten the 400 m record if "ONLY" he would have gone for it. Well that only consists of enduring the extremely mentally taxing 400 m training. Something Bolt himself said he wasn't up to. So, no, i don't think Van Niekirk would ever have gotten close to the world record for 200 m, due to having a body that easily broke down due to the specialised training for the shorter distances. Maybe that body type with slender joints and muscles was ideal for the 400 m? Staying Light and explosive (and endure lactic acid) and still not getting injured...
