A few Amish near me were shunned for reading the Bible in their home and questioning a certain interpretation. They claimed an open Bible in your home lets the devil in. The ones reading the Bible ended up having diesel fuel dumped around their entire home and lit on fire also had some animals killed and cut up to scare them. Funny how they get away with acting like this.

If the Bible is the 'operating manual' for the Amish, then it sounds very odd that they ( maybe just some of the sects/communities/families..?? ) are not allowed to read this 'operating manual' at home. Very odd....and sad.
Perhaps the leaders of these particular sects, etc, do not understand what Paul is charging Timothy with, in 2 Timothy 2:15, when Paul says: " Be diligent to present yourself approved unto God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth."
Paul didn't tell Timothy...or us....to just believe what the preacher or teacher says to believe, but to search it out for our ourselves. We are to read and study for ourselves, and not just base what we believe on what any other person says...not the preacher or anyone else. Prove to yourself if what the preacher or teacher is saying is Biblically correct...or not.
If what the preacher is saying can be proved Biblically, then that's great and good. The preacher is supposed to know more than the flock and that is why he was chosen to be the preacher. But I know that many preachers do not know more than some of the members, and are just deceiving the people to believe what is not Biblical. The evil "prosperity" , and the "slain in the spirit' ministries are an excellent example of false teaching. But the student MUST prove for themselves if this is so.
In Philippians 2:12, Paul charges the Philippians to .."Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling." The individual is responsible for their own salvation and should not depend on their preacher or teacher for salvation.
Now...let me state very clearly, that I have a lot of respect and admiration for the Amish and their desire to keep their lives simple and self-dependent and keeping their dependency on the government and Society, to a minimum. But just like every other religious group, there will be differences in how each religious denomination understands and applies the Bible to their lives.

The Bible is not there operating manual, the ordnung is the only rules they follow. From a distance I understand how admirable they can appear. Up close you start to see all the greed and all the crime they get away with because they hide behind their so called religion.

I agree with Marbleman52, the ordung they follow are rules set by the Bishop _ who is voted in...They vote as a group (the men do)...they do make some "rules" that are not Biblical, but a lot of churches tend to do that...This is why salvation doesn't come from which "church" you belong to. It is each person making a decision to follow Christ and accept Him as their Savior. When a saved person reads the Bible then God opens their eyes for understanding. I say this because I read it before I was saved and it never made sense. Once I was saved I understood so much. And I continue to learn and grow. This doesn't happen from the "church" I go to...it's me and my Bible...time with God. There are Amish people that are saved and there are some that are not. Our goodness doesn't come form the group we belong to. It comes from within.

@@LivingThatSimpleLife I reckon I've said before, I have more Amish than English friends. It's funny how each sect is different. My Danners will walk in the gas station and buy a 6 pack, but smoke cigarettes made by the bishop, has to be brown tubes. Some silly rules. Can buy bud light but not a pack of Marlboro 😂

@@CowboySJ ...I wonder what the Amish who drink Bud Light now think about Bud with the stupid stunt of embracing Dylan Mulvaney? Maybe they switched brands....lol..!!
