My Amish Neighbors
United States
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 5 ก.ย. 2020
We live in a small community in Southern Ohio where we have lots of Amish Neighbors. It is not unusual for us to have to pass a horse and buggy on the road when traveling to town. It is fascinating to watch my Amish neighbors live their simple life amongst our fast paced world! I am blessed to be able to share their "Simple Living" lifestyle. We have so much we can learn from them!

7 Delicious Favorite Amish Breakfast Recipes
Whished you looked at your own footage, it was terrible the green house had some good ideas but couldn't stand any more of your filming, your fired !!!!!
Salvation from hell is a FREE GIFT that one must simply receive through faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ on the cross. That is the truth. Do not ignore Jesus Christ and spend eternity in hell. The salvation of your soul is fully paid for with the sinless blood of Jesus Christ on the cross. He lived a sinless life in your place because you cannot. Then he went to the cross and shed his blood, died and was buried, and rose to life 3 days later to pay the full penalty for all your sins past, present, and future. Believe this in your heart and call upon Jesus Christ with your mouth and ask him to save your soul from hell RIGHT NOW! Not later or tomorrow but NOW! Tomorrow is not promised. Get saved NOW! It's that simple. Do not stumble by unbelief. It truly is by believing this gospel ( good news) message that one is made righteous, sinless, before God. Your soul is SEALED by the Holy Spirit the moment you believe the gospel and call on Jesus to save you. God's perfect righteousness is imputed to your soul, and your lifetime of sins are imputed to Jesus Christ. This is the truth!! A swap is instantly made and it's all by God's grace through faith in Jesus Christ alone. Salvation is instantaneous and permanent! Go on youtube and watch a 7 minute video called: "How to know for certain your going to heaven- Dr Hank Linstrom" And pray along in the end and get saved right this moment!!!!
I don't believe in college or higher schools
Not sure it’s a pride thing. It’s a humility thing. That’s why Amish dolls have no face. Pride is a separate issue.
Great topic. New to learning more about the Mennonite/Amish/Hutterites. 1)Do any of these communities pay taxes, insurance or allow government pensions? 2)Are females allowed to control/ride a buggy without her husband present? 3)Can one become a Mennonite without being born into one of these particular communities? 4)Are pets allowed in the home? Thank you for your time!! 👍🏼🙏🏼
Great questions: A disclaimer: Each community has its own rules according to the Bishop. I am going to answer based on the Amish/Mennonites that I interact with. 1. They DO pay taxes...if they have a job selling to the public they are beholden to paying taxes as we are. My husband gets a 1099 when he works for them. They do not have insurance or government pensions. If a member needs help with medical bills they tend to have an autciton. We attended one and people were paying up to 5 times the value of the item. One guy bought a quilt for 800.00 dollars then donated it back to be auctioned again. They do not take handouts, but they can have auctions. 2. In my area I see females out with buggies and no males all of the time. 3. Yes, I actually met a woman while sitting at the bakery that was English and she told me her husband left the menonite church, but they were still on good terms with the menonite relatives. It was neat to see family all mixed up per se. I have had others comment on my channel that they were in the process of joining a Menonite church but were not born into the faith per se. 4. This one I am going to say no, just because we have watche out neighbors with pet dogs for example. The dog is treated as a worker not a pet. They do not typically name them and pet them. Their job may be to catch rodents, heard livestock or to guard. I hope this answers your questions. I'm sure other people will reply and share their experiences as well.
Can you explain why they don't believe in mechanization
The Amish don't consider technolgy or mehanization evil in or of itself, but they believe that if it is left untames it may undermine their traditions and accelerate assimilation into the surrounding society. Many Amish communities aren't as strict with the mechanical parts. We have neighbors that are allowed to use fork lifts for their bussiness for example. The internet is a lot stricter, but even with that I know many that use cell phones. It is hard to preserve that wholesome way of life with a world that demands many of these devices to have a business. In a nutshell it is all about influences from the world they are trying to avoid or keep to a minimum.
Good video
Thank you!
There is believing in Jesus, there is believing Jesus, and there is “ worshipping “ Jesus. Two of these three are supported by scripture. The third refutes the second. It’s not all that hard . Just do what Jesus instructed his apostles to do . Pray to whom Jesus instructed his apostles to pray. Honor as God that which Jesus honored as God.
Amen!
This so far sounds like how I was raised. A German/ American. 😊
Sounds like a good life!
Do they prefer cash over a check
Yes, cash is always best. They do take checks but not debit cards or charge cards. I do wonder what will happen if the world goes digital with money??? We shall see.
Very informative thank you for posting
You are very welcome!
I love the Amish
I agree...I love their simple life...
According to my research the Swartzentruber name was the surname of two early bishops of the affiliation. "Trube" does not mean "refrain" as far as i can tell. When i checked the etymology i got this: "Americanized form of Swiss German Schwarzentruber: occupational name for a grower of black wine grapes, from Middle High German swarz 'black' + trūbe 'grape', or a habitational name for someone living at a house or tavern with a sign of dark grapes."
Interesting!
Balancing with the entirety of scripture, I don't see how the Amish interpret Romans 12 to eschew utilitarian and informational connection to the wider world. Use of something doesn't necessitate the abuse of or reliance upon something. Such a view denies the liberty we Christians have in Christ vis-a-vis Romans 14:14, "I am convinced, being fully persuaded in the Lord Jesus, that nothing is unclean in itself. But if anyone regards something as unclean, then for that person it is unclean." Within the obviously commanded black-and-whites of scripture, there is much grey area for the Holy Spirit to interact with and convict an individual Christian, as a member of the New Testament holy priesthood, whether those convictions be fixed over one's lifetime or variable based on time and/or circumstance. My main beef with the Amish stance is the same as that with Catholics from whence they separated. They're both legalistic, bordering on Pharisaism. There are two kinds of legalism: one deals with salvation and the other deals with sanctification after salvation. No question, that salvation is by the free gift of grace through the predestined gift of faith in Christ alone. Of course, some denominations even get this wrong, but most go astray with legalism regarding what constitutes or doesn't constitute living a life for Christ (i.e., sanctification) after salvation. The Amish go wrong precisely at the Ordnung, which is the same fallacy the Pharisees fell into with man-made rules and regulations of righteousness that added onto and often superseded those of God Himself. This is why many Christians sometimes consider the Amish as cult-adjacent, and I can't wholeheartedly disagree with that assessment. As Christians, we must rely on the Holy Spirit to strike that fine balance between legalism and latitudinarianism, between legalism and Biblical church discipline, between grace in the grey and discernment in the dire.
Thought provoking for sure. In the end we are each accountable for ourselves. Thank you for sharing.
Jacob was my 7x G Grandfather. Love history and ancestry. A couple of thoughts: firstly, we can't apply standards of today to the world back then. Secondly, we can't pretend to know what someone hundreds of years ago was thinking. History is what it is. We can all strive to make the world today the best it can be, but none of us would even exist without the past occurring as it had.
I love your input. You are so right! Thank you!
Great job
Thank you!
Are black women able to join the menn's??
Absolutely!
There is no law that says Americans are suppose to have an SSN. That is blatantly false.
👍
So the Amish don’t have a SS number u they work outside of their community? How do they pay their taxes if they don’t have a SA number? Don’t u have to have a SS number to pay their taxes? I’m a little confused
From my interacction with them. Yes, if they decide to work outside of their community they do need an SSN. We have a neighbor that wanted to start a roofing business and serve the English. He had to apply for the SSN. Was tough to get but he got it and has a thriving business. I have friends (not amish) that do NOT get SSNs for their children.
The bird flu is a outbreak of pcr testing. A BS attack on food industry
Agree
Everything you have said actually qualifies them as a cult. One of the main differences of a cult is separation and seeking a following of a few families rather than the mass general following religions seek. Also seeing the world as corrupt and your own community as safer etc. Its absolutely a cult considering the accepted definition of a cult. My personal definition of a cult is if the entire world lived like this would it be scary? In my observation they have not at all held onto core values. They focus more on farming and work and some say they dont even understand their prayer books anymore. Some dont even go to sunday mass often. Like every other sunday ..also there is LOTS of drama and in fighting there are only 500k amish in the usa .. but literally THOUSANDS of communities because they keep fighting and everytime there is a fight .. one group split off. I respect their right to live as they please. But in my very flawed opinion it doesnt seem like a religious lifestyle any longer.
There are many that would agree with you. In the end...each of us is accountable to God. God knows our heart. We will stand in judgement before God.
Thank you for the videos! My family came over on the Friendship in 1724. Landed in Philadelphia and settled in East Hempfield Lancaster. A few weeks ago my wife and I (same background) took a river cruise from Amsterdam (the Friendship left from Rotterdam) up the Rhine to Basel. We then spent a day in Zurich.
What a wonderful trip it was I'm sure...Thank you so much for sharing!
Just one picture of the pins tho in all that video
Sorry to disapoint you.☹
They do use automobiles. I literally just came from an Amish store where they drove up in cars
Many times we mistake mennonites for Amish. EIther they were mennonite OR what we might call "Beachy Amish" Each sect has its own rules.
@@LivingThatSimpleLife well they were all dress like omish. So unless they where the same clothes then they definitely was omish. The place name is "Glenwood Food at Green Castle" In Greencastle, Pa
salvation isnt guaranteed though but it has to come form God correct, the way it was worded in the video it makes it sound like the argument is faith guarantees salvation but I think the question we all wonder is how they get it if its not through faith or belief in God as the savior
You are correct, salvation comes from our believe in Jesus Christ AND a decision to follow him...Many will add that you have to be born again as in baptized thorough Christ. God knows our hearts and where we are in our faith, in our salvation and in our decision to folllow Him.
Im looking for the answer of how they are saved if it not through Jesus, all salvation comes through Jesus, correct?
Yes, salvation is through faith in Jesus Christ.
How often do they shower? Do they bury their money ? Are there any black Amish?
Showering depends on the facilities of the home. We know large families where Dad is pretty handy and they have indoor pluminb, electric pumps ran with solar and hot water...then you have some amish that depend on wood burning stoves for hot water...it depends on the family and accomodations. They do use banks - They write and accept checks (the amish that we personally relate with) No charge cards. We do not have black amish in our community that I know of but from my research I have read that yes, there are black Amish.
Is it illegal to wear seatbelts in buggies then?
it's not illegal as much as a decision by the Amish Sect not to. I was on the road just last night and it was very dark out (no street lights) and a buggy came towards me with so many lights on it I though it was a slow car. I was happy about the lights. I have seen babies in car seats in the buggies.
There are some that dont allow the people to hold Bible Study and will shun them for it! So what are their elders trying to hide??😠 There was a documentary on this by some from a certain order and these people had to leave or chose to leave. And no songs of praise? When God wishes according to the Psalms to praise Him in song with cymbals, harp, songs and dance? To me, it is the elders that are exercising control of their congregation by hiding certain things authorized by God in the Bible for His people to do. And when people start reading and studying the Bible on their own and finding these things the elders have been keeping from them, trouble is stirred up. Thankfully, there are newer offshoots that have realized this and left. I believe Bible studies are crucial to a Christ bound religion, whether lead by a leader or those just wanting to get together in someone's home and expand and delve into the Word. "WHERE 2 OR MORE ARE GATHERED". I have been to both, Pastor lead in church and just interested people meeting in homes with prayer, songs and discussion of a certain passage. A fellowship group. This is what God wants. Even the disciples met together as followers of Christ.
I totally agree with you. There is a fine line in creating "rules" to keep people on track and then keeping the word from them. I was raised as a Catholic and questioned this very same thing - why can't I just read the BIble myself. I don't want to judge people as a group, because I know people that practice catholism and are in the word and do believe in salvation. The Amish are very good at practiicing "Live in the world but not of the world"
I was shopping in a large Amish grocery store when I thought, "Wait, how is it light in here?" That's when I noticed a sheet metal lined shaft in the ceiling in which the diffusing panel had been removed. It was open to the roof, covered by a thick, tough sheet of plexiglass. When covered by a diffusing panel, it looked like your typical fluorescent light set up. There were a number of these light shoots throughout the store. Absolutely brilliant!
Yes! I was at the local Amish Bakery the other day and they were running an AC using a solar panel. Sign on door read...Keep door closed Ac is running. Hadn't had that before.
If your afraid , slow down. Leave people alone . They have real criminals they should be focusing on. It's called the first amendment , and it's religious liberty . If people don't like it they can leave.
Amen
Nope I'm not buying a new washer or dryer I'll go to the laundry. Mat wash clothes and hang them at home 2-3000 dollars for a washer is insane.
That is actually very smart. Probably cheaper than buying one. You can read a good book while waiting on the wash!
I respect their Bibleical culture my question Did they welcome others Christian those who want to join Amish community!
They do welcome people to join. We actually had a couple in our area where the man joined the Amish community - he was a professor for years and decided he wanted a different life. He and he wife embraced the amish community and had several children.
@@LivingThatSimpleLife Excellent thank you so much
It breaks my heart what is happening to the Amish.
Yes, I'm afraid there may be attacks on many religiours groups
This should be coming from the horse's mouth not a second hand source.
There are many Amish that have left the community and have channels. They talk about this alot.
There are two kinds of cults, unbiblical Christology and controlling leadership, the Amish have the characteristics of the latter type, and the Jehovah's Witness have both. There are some striking similarities between the Amish and JWs, as they both live in insular communities where people will be excommunicated for not blindly following their leaders. To believe that salvation isn't guaranteed is not biblical, and more like Islam than Christianity.
The more I look at my own life and my belief I find that we can make this complicated or just read the Bible for ourselves and trust God to speak to us. It is a learning process to say the least. In the end God knows our heart and he will be the judge. It's not about following a religion as much as following Christ.
I think that to many folks in this country a quick to past judgement on other people. I visiting the Amish family’s that live in my area. Their bake goods are excellent.
I agree. Bottom line, it is not for us to judge anyone. God promises that He will judge.
Your video was very helpful. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!

@@LivingThatSimpleLife nah didn’t think you were from out here. Brown county and adams close by have some nice covered bridges as well. By the Amish out here.
I guess they won't be going to court and complaing about their First Amendment rights being violated, because that would be trusting and man-made things as well.
Convictions can be very deep.
I live between Timmins Ontario And north bay in the bush And I Every single day Horse horses and buggies I work with them very closely For My entire life That getting to leave Is forbidden Any of the things that To go to light drink and party They are absolutely not allowedIt goes completely against the religion Dateline by the bible At the very most Mennonites Will keep some light wine for special occasions In which Jesus Would be celebrated like Christmas Blood of Christ Not to get drunk

What you're talking about where they get to go leave the Amish community at The age of 16The rum sprinter Or whatever you call it Go hang out with the English and That is not I have heard this from both Amish and Mennonites as I am surrounded by It's not factual At 16 year low to start courting Knowing and working with the Amish and Mennonites As much as I do Especially right now As I just got a huge load Of lumber You are not giving factual information
Rules are different in different communities and in different areas. I get my information from asking my neighbors and then research to see what is different. My neighbors are very community orriented and the groups are small (roughly 30 to 50 people).
@@LivingThatSimpleLife I have lived around Mennonites my entire life in northern Ontario I shop at their stores. I buy their lumber and deal with them on a daily basis, have grown up to be friends with Mennonite Amish that left the community 75% of the labour gets to do renovations where I live is honest I’m going 40 years experience
You forgot the hanging veils that some groups wear. I believe these are the groups that are not part of any conference.
Thank you!
Where are the black felt hats
Each group wears different hats. These are hats from my area.
There is something to be said about this order of the Amish. They stay out of mainstream society. They pretty much stay to themselves. Plus they're concerned about newcomers. Well is perfectly understandable. Who in the world would want to join this order when a requirement is the bathe once in a 7-Day week? It is probably hard to be around someone who smells like straight up ass. It's their belief system and that's perfectly okay. Just stay 100 miles away from the rest of us.😅😅😅
There is no salvation without Jesus. He's the only way to heaven. You have to ask Jesus to forgive your sins and give your life to Him, and follow Him and His word.Get the English version of God's word, and read it. Any so called church that tells you you're the only ones going to heaven, is a CULT, not a church.
Thank you for sharing!
I've been in my Amish neighbor's house and I don't think you could see the stove if you tried. There were so many things all over the house. It was so cluttered. The countertops were filled with glass mason jars. I have never seen so many. I also went into one of my neighbor's church friends house when she made her a meal and asked me to bring her over to her house- and it was also cluttered to the core. I'm sure, though, that all Amish are different. Just like we are. I recently dropped the Amish kids off at someone else's house and the outside of her house was kept so beautifully. I told my Amish neighbor how beautiful the outside was and she said, "Oh yes. She has a lot of energy." and smiled.
ahhh Horder Amish LOL...you are right - we are all human! No one group is all the same. Loved hearing this!!
Thanks for your post. For me, it appears that Amish hold to a strict, conservative Christian value system.
Many question their salvation...I do not know any "man's" heart...not for me to judge. I lvoe how they are not worldly ...and communtiy centered. You have a good observation.
Thank you
You're welcome
