  • We thought we would share a little bit of our hunt for a trailer, It's been a little crazy trying to plan all of the changes and capture what we can on film but we're getting it done and learning this youtube thing as we go. Thank you to everyone who is following our journey and for supporting us along the way. BTW...we found a camper!! When we go to finalize the sale, we'll bring you all along.

    Should have gotten the Big Tex. The quality is night and day.

    First time watching your video best of luck. We have a 20ft 7k axles trailer with the round tube sides. Also have a couple hundred acres in texas and we really wish we had no sides on the trailer from loading lumber to grass and tractors sometimes the sides get in the way. Hopefully in 2 months we'll be getting a gooseneck. But best of luck starting up the channel

      Thank you for your insight on the trailers. Down the road we may want a different style too.

    I'm looking into a trailer and they only have the dual 3.5k axle trailers in stock. 18ft with heavy pipe rail $4400 and 20ft with lighter rails $3799. I may go for the 20 as my first trailer.

    Hopefully your truck can pull it fully loaded.

      I'm sure we'll have to be mindful of what we load but we have the calcs on max load so we should be fine.

    • @kfstreich4787
      @kfstreich4787 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You really only need to pull it with the load you have on it
      That trailer is fairly small, any modern half ton pickup could pull it.

    The spot for the winch on the second trailer is the spare tire mount.

    That cowtown trailer is way lower quality then the Big Tex trailers you were looking at. You can tell by just looking at them.

      Keith Poole the paint on the deck boards just screams thrown together with no care and the hole things surely painted like that probably won’t look nice for long, but when you shop based on price only that’s wat you get

    Trailer prices make me 😱
    The side rails can contribute to structural rigidity.
    Good luck [with your walet]

    The Big Tex dealer is where I bought my 14' 14k gooseneck dump trailer. So far I like it. I've been tearing down my old mobile home and hauling it off with it. It also gave me a chance to check out Browns next door. I hope your trailer works out for you. Just out of curiosity is it as heavy duty as the Big Tex the same length?

    • @ridgeviewhomestead3900
      @ridgeviewhomestead3900  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We're not ready for a dump trailer yet, but someday we would love to have one. They look like they make life easier. The one we got is rated for about 7k which is right about what we should be hauling with our truck. Any more than that with the mountain roads and weather it becomes a safety issue. Yes, a lot of the trailers at Big Tex were rated higher. Are you local here in AR?

      @@ridgeviewhomestead3900 I had an old '66 chevy dump truck. I wanted to get a newer dump truck so I sold my dump truck. Ultimately I decided that with insurance and tags and upkeep and fuel it would be better just to get a dump trailer. My old dump truck was a lot easier to get around than a long truck and long trailer but i'll make do. The trailer does hold more volume though.Almost forgot. I live in north central Arkansas. Maybe you've heard of Calico Rock?

    Rrrrippp offfffff !
    Three to five grand, and none of the price tags mention anything about these units having air conditioning included !
    I suppose THAT'S extra too, like the spare tire and winch !

  • @Bournefort

    That looks like a great trailer. I am in the market for a similar setup. I am hoping to get a utility trailer that can also function as a car hauler if the need arises. I would use mine for hauling lumber, ATVs, equipment, etc... but I would also want the ability to haul a car or truck if need be. Do you think your trailer is capable of hauling a vehicle?

    • @johnpiegzik298
      @johnpiegzik298 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The trailer I bought is rated at 7500lbs. We recently put a Ford F-150 and it did great! Thx for your comment. John

      Here's another update: the tires that came on our trailer were cheap tires and because of the double axle, one set wears faster. Be prepared to buy a better set of tires probably pretty quick after buying one depending on where you buy it. We thought these were going to be good but they're not.

      Paul Cox True. We have no problem pulling a full size truck on the trailer. I replied much earlier to 100% Texan but I meant we can’t pull our camper. It’s a 39’. Wasn’t meant to be moved so it wasn’t a problem but we can tow close to 8k lbs with the 18’ trailer. We love it. Comes in very handy.

    Have you done any research at all ? Do you know the maximum width , i.e. 8 ft. 6 inches , outside edge to outside edge ?! LOOK at how weathered the wood is , they've had it for a long time ! Make them a low offer , then walk away !
