    Thank you so much for this detailed tutorial! I had spent the last two weeks and hours and hours of research and attempts to get XP back on my PC. I've gotten the vintage bug and decided to pull out my old Dell Dimension 8400 Pentium 4. At some point in the past I had installed Windows 7 over XP and I wanted XP back on the hard drive. I believe the SATA drivers were my biggest obstacle. The first time I followed your tutorial I got to a point where the drive wasn't detected. I decided to format the thumb drive and follow your steps more carefully the second time. Sure enough, I didn't unpack the Easy2boot contents onto the thumb drive the first time properly. The second time everything went much smoothly and I'm proud to say I'm looking at a fresh XP desktop! I can't wait to fire up some old games on it now, so thank you!

    Thank you! Thank you! THANK YOU!!! I have spent my entire day attempting to load XP onto a Dell Mini 1011. I used another all-in-one utility that was supposed to make it easy. After about 10 attempts thinking that I was messing something up: Rirst MS Setup couldn't find the EULA so I edited the winnt.sif and got past that error, then Setup couldn't format the HDD -- I never got past THAT one.
    I figured, "Forget it!" and attempted an Ubuntu install... THAT failed as well. Then I found your tutorial and it SAVED my sanity. So, once again thank you so much!

      You can boot ubuntu directly from the same Easy2Boot flash drive - just copy the ISO to \_ISO\MAINMENU and boot. Try also StartOS and android-x86-2.2-r2-eeepc.iso!

    JUST TO BE CLEAR ON THIS PART:
    grb loader file that gets installed is also in the Easy2boot folder, they are named exactly the same, what I did further on I skipped to copy over the (grldr file) and managed to get everything working on the USB stick, I have now a bootable usb2 stick with windows xp iso that I can install onto a Desktop system that has a SATA only Hard drive. Thanks To Steve

      Thanks brother, it works now thanks to your ^ comment =) Another tip, if you get an "amsm" or arms or driver error sp3 error right before win xp finalization of the this 1-2 hour process is done, just put in the win xp or win xp pro cd in your old desktop cd drive. IDK why, but it works ! You can install any drivers once you finalize windows =)

    My option : Use usb connector and plug in hdd into another pc or laptop , use any program to make your hdd like boot win xp ( flash usb ) Done , than plug in Hdd in your pc and boot xp from hdd , take install ( alot of errors for sure ) Once when is installed use another usb stick with xp boot , open bios option and first device USB. Format Hdd from usb bootable xp stuck options and than install windows like normal instalation :) Thats work for me.

    first couple of times it just restarted after loading the iso into the ram. then after some hours passed, i retry and it suddenly worked.
    note: i saw you have used easy 2 boot version 1.09 if i'm not mistaken. well i couldn't find it so i went with the last version. it worked.
    loading the sata drivers with nlite didn't work for me that's why i'm here.

    "I just tried" as in tired using the USB boot on my laptop. "It went flawless" - it was installing everything as it should. "Then boom" meaning the blue screen just randomly popped up when everything seemed to be installing. The same thing happened with the windows CD. The HDD in the computer is completely formatted and empty.

    • @steve6375
      @steve6375  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +illenick So it did not install and did not get to the Desktop so it did not install flawlessy, it blue-screened during the second GUI stage of installing XP (usually there is a 'x minutes remaining' countdown - it is useful to note what the last time is before it BSODs). If this is the same point each time you install, it may tell us where the problem lies. However, I would do a Memory test (Utilities - Memory Test on Easy2Boot) and also a disk test e.g. Hirens Boot CD ISO and run a disk test. You still did not tell me the BSOD error number...?

    • @illenick
      @illenick 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +steve6375 it was install-ING flawlessly i never said it made it to the desktop.... i didnt have a timer for when it would be finished i couldnt check that for you :/ and i only remember on the blue screen it saying to do a disk check.... ill get the number soon as im running it again. i checked in the utilities and mermory test wasnt there...? anywhere else i should look?

    • @illenick
      @illenick 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +steve6375 also on the screen berfore the windows install starts i got this error when checking drivers.

      There are no XP disk drivers for modern chipsets - they just don't make the inf files any more for XP, so if you have a recent chipset then it wont recognise it. Usually XP won't work on modern chipsets very well even if you do manage to install it!

    • @steve6375
      @steve6375  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It automatically detects the type of PCI device and automatically creates a virtual floppy disk drive in memory which contains the correct XP 32bit driver for the mass storage controller.

      @@steve6375 so the harddrive will run on sata mode? You don't don't to disable the sata mode in bios?
      How does the windows xp OS runs the hd without a sata driver after you have completed the installation?
      The OS doesn't have sata driver in the first place. You have to download from mobo manufacture separately.
      Just confused how it runs on sata mode after installation without a driver. Or we do install it through virtual floppy drive?

    • @steve6375
      @steve6375  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@m.farhana.rahman3372 XP adds the driver into the XP install. Its exactly the same as you pressing F6 during Setup and adding a driver from an OEM driver floppy disk, the driver is added into the XP install files on the target disk so it is there on reboot to XP from the hard disk.
      Easy2Boot (DPMS version) contains all XP 32-bit mass storage drivers, that is why the DPMS version is a lot bigger than the non-DPMS version. E2B picks the correct mass storage drivers and makes a virtual F6 floppy disk drive in memory and sets the default driver to the same INF file so it is automatically used. In fact, E2B sets up two driver floppies (fd0 and fd1), one with the Firadisk virtual disk driver for the ISO file to appear as a CD set as the default driver and one with the correct storage driver set as the default driver - XP will then automatically install both drivers.

    here is the situation of error 14:
    At first after choosing step 1 this row appears:
    Info: no scsi/sata/raid pci ids in driverpack.ini file
    And then it starts listing those 3 drivers but in my case it only detects two... So, comparing to this video, the driver that is missing in my setup is this:
    Driver 1: pci/ven_8086&dev_2829&cc_0106 name= iastor3
    After that the loading of the xp iso to the memory proceeds and it completes in about 5 minutes... After that the blue screen named Windows setup appears and that's where the error appears:
    File ntkrnlmp.exe could not be loaded.
    The error code is 14.
    Setup cannot continue. Press any key to exit.
    so the step 1 doesn't complete... I tried making only step 2 but it was useless it didn't do anything
    Is anyone having the same issue? Any suggestions? Thanks

    So I wiped and formatted my usb stick, installed grub4dos to both the master and partition boot record, and dropped my iso files on the drive. The first try it was looking for the first item in the grub menu and couldn't find it. The second I organized the folders like you had them _ISO/Windows/ etc and now I just get one line of GRUB4DOS version, date, mem: 636K/898M/0M, End: 36873A and that's it. My .iso file I got online (actually tried 2 different ones) and extracted it using winRAR. Neither showed the files organized like yours. I'm guessing its an iso formatting issue or possibly a bad version of the grub file? I'm new to this, do you have any suggestions?

      This video is out dated, no need for rmprepusb, etc. Just download and run the exe

    • @steve6375
      @steve6375  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The usual reason is because you did not prepare the USB drive correctly - you need to either use the Easy2Boot Make_E2B.exe GUI or use RMPrepUSB and tick the 'Boot as C: (2 PTNS) option so that the USB drive has two partitions on it. Since you give no details whatsoever on how you made the USB drive (or even if you are booting from a USb drive!) it is difficult to guess at what else the problem could be!

    @steve6375 I tried to look for that a million times.. The only thing I could find for the HDD was enable and disable... It says "options for sata drive" or something along those lines but that's it.... These bios have like no options... And for the error it just happens randomly sometimes it takes a while and sometimes it's really quick...

    • @steve6375
      @steve6375  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +illenick OK, if it was a driver problem then it would always crash in the same place. If it is crashing randomly then I would check memory and hard disk. Did you run a memory test yet - Easy2Boot - Utilities - MEMORY TEST Menu - 0
      or CTRL+U then CTRL+M then 0 [ENTER].

    If you have Hirens Boot CD then you can run a diagnostic HDD test from MiniXP from the HBCD menu.
    There is a Fujitsu Diagnostic test for DOS
    www.majorgeeks.com/mg/getmirror/fujitsu_diagnostic_%28ide%29,1.html
    1. Download FJDT700 and extract FJDT.exe
    2. Extract FreeDOS_Full.ima from \_ISO\DOS\MNU\Freedos288.ima (already in E2B)
    3. Copy and rename FreeDOS_Full.ima to \_ISO\MAINMENU\FreeDOSHDD.ima
    4. Install ImDisk, right click on \_ISO\MAINMENU\FreeDOSHDD.ima and Mount as floppy
    5. Copy FJDT.exe to the new floppy virtual drive (should be FDAUTO.bat, KERNEL.SYS, etc, already there)
    6. Right-click on the new floppy drive icon an UnMount ImDisk Virtual Disk
    7. Now boot to E2B, select the FreeDOSHDD.ima file and boot to it - then type FJDT
    easy!

Fortunately though, I found an XP ISO with SATA drivers and updates up to November 2013 online and a scan of it from AVG 2019 warranted no warnings at all so I burned it to a blank CD with ImgBurn and gave it a go and it worked. Whoever uploaded that ISO included nearly 50 MB of SATA drivers and mine was among the many included so now I'm running old reliable Windows XP in AHCI mode with no issues whatsoever and its just about as snappy as Windows 7 is, which really impressed me. You don't need to rename the ini file if you have downloaded the DPMS zip file. The message says rename the DP .ini file (note the space between DP and .ini) it means rename the driverpack .ini file - not rename to DP.ini!
      The file should be already named DriverPack.ini - leave it as DriverPack.ini
