- SE SFTE "SpetsTechnoExport", a part of the State Concern "Ukroboronprom" presented the new upgrade program of T-72 battle tanks which are still in operational use worldwide. The presentation was held
during International Defense Exhibition DefExpo-2020 in Lucknow, India.
The implementation of such a program will give a new life to T-72 tanks in a dozen of years ahead. It provides proven increased transmission systems, increased firepower, protection systems, improved electrical power, navigation systems and amended ergonomics.

Redesigning the tank turret with more space for the crew will be much effective for lengthy battles. Cramped space will make the crew much more fatigue

a Few things..i dont like about this T-72 upgrade..one of those things is the Conveyor Autoloader..the standard autoloader on the T-72 is bether..because the Conveyor autoloader is exposed on the backside of the Turret..and the Turrets weight is to heavy on the backside..causing the tank to be less accurate and slower rotation..and if hit with a Light Rocket..like a RPG-7,the Tank will not be able to fire the Main Gun..The Conveyor Auto loader is a Bad upgrade..more a down grade..the rest...some things can be changed..other things are not realy vital in a battle..the most important thing in Warfare..is Strategy and Tactics..Tools can be adjusted to thes plans...Warfare is not all about the Newest Weapons..sometimes Newer Versions are not bether...Warfare is to take the Middle line..not to outdated..but also not to stupid overrated..its a Combination of effort,Tools,and know how.

nice! replacing the carousel loader with cassette. to increase crew survivability.
plenty of room behind t72 type turret for a cassette autoloader box.
I think that's kinda stupid because if you go hulldown and something pens you it will hit the cassete behind and boom ammorack
@@kajmak64bit76 Well one would assume blowout panels are included but the T-72 (and basically every tank after T-54) has some trouble going hull down due to the lack of gun depression. BUT, the carousel was not as big a deal as everyone makes it out to be. It's literally sitting in the bottom of the tank, you need to hit the lower front plate to hit it deliberately, from the front and if you get hit from above...well you have worse problems. The whole brewing up is because of the spare 8+ or so rounds that are in the turret, unprotected causing the explosion.

They already have those, they just aren't really all that great.
im not sure if the conveyor autoloader will sit well with the crew in the cramp turret and sitting next to a ammorack on a russian tank never ends well

I'll take your entire stock
- Lack of Auxiliary Power Unit for keeping electric and hydraulic systems working without the need of the main engine running
- Lack of and advanced tactical combat linked computer, able to show commander his current position, their allied tanks or mechanized units and lack of positioning of detected enemy units
- still somehow lacking visibility compared to western tanks
This upgrade is pretty good, but not as good as what Israel and other western countrys can offer for T-72A or B1 potential clients needing to upgrade their vehicles, and T-72 while really improved, will still be a little behind modern MBT. Nevertheless if Russia and other producers of the T-72 upgrade their vehicles with a pack including these features, T-72 can be on pair with much more modern and expensive tanks. At the end of the day, T-72 its a 50 year old design based on a 60 year old T-64 design, the fact that it can still be upgraded to be on pair with designs much much newers talks about how good it was
They have shown API at 0:53 mate, as you told TAC computer absence is a huge negative if you are facing a Hi-Tech enemy, but for a low tech adversary, I think this will be a very costly affair but good option.
The Ukrainians are aiming at buyers for conflicts against their neighbours, I.e Syria, Iraq, Yemen, Libya etc. This modernisation package is meant to be a cost effective measure for countries running their military on a budget.

About TAC computers... they are not the end-all-be-all device. Technology tends to fail way more than what the countrys using it are willing to admit (human failure, weather conditions, jammers, bugs... they all could end up in possible malfuction) and with good training at several levels and very good comunications close results might be achieved.
Don't get me wrong... T-72 upgrade its not complete without it, but this upgrade brings many many things into the table of xxi century armored battle, 1 missing element does not bring T-72 back to "ural" stage.
But again, any key missing gadget can be supplied by other countrys

Ignoring the poor armour protection of all T72 MKs. These upgrades make it a useful and cheap(ish) addition to any nations tank fleet. Numbers do matter.

@@dogmeat4275 well the B model has better base armor and composites than the A model, also the A model has worse targrting system than the B model. Upgrading From Kontak-1 to duplet only increse the HEAT protection any modern APFSDS will still pen an A model even with duplet.
Also A model T 72 has Kontak 1 not kontak 5, a better option is to upgrade B models not outdated A models

@@essidmedamine8130 depends on the ERA in question. it would also be hard to know how well certain ERA types do seeing as they're classified and all we have are certain estimates. also keep in mind that in the video they also installed an APS system meaning that the armor of the actual vehicle itself is a last ditch effort.

your seeing it right now. T72 is a highly upgraded version of the T55 tank (with some tech from the T64)--really its a merger of the T64 technologies on a T55 chasis. The T55 tank is an evolution of the T34 with all the lessons learned from WW2 and incorporated them into a main battle tank. Hell the T72 has the same engine as the T34.

А индия в последнее время очень негативно к российской технике начала относится и менять ее всю на западное или "свое". Ну и не думаю, что Пакистан заинтересован в покупке техники, представленной на тендере в Индии. Также на вооружении Пакистана нет Т-72 и их закупать, это будет большая логистическая ошибка как я думаю.

Gun is good enough to fight infantry and all sorts of vehicles (upgraded optics will surely help in aquisition of targets)
Give it some decent shells and it'll still be able to fight tanks
Moves pretty well, cheap enough to get and maintain.
With ERA, some active protection and laser warning it'll be able to survive against it's biggest threat...infantry with AT weapons
a tank's biggest threat is not another tank, it's infantry in an ambush with rocket/missiles
So many fat asses on chairs keep throwing the "MUH MUH ABRAMS easy shot kill muhaha", but pretty much no argument except "best tank in the world" or some shit.(applies to challenger/leopard or t90 etc)

if you are going to all the faff of adding the ammo in the turret and then all the fuss of welding on the auto loader up there with cassette... and a new gun... and new everything else... might be better to sit the boys in the T72 like the terminator. ie in the hull. then trim down the many tons from the turret.

Even though I find those tanks pretty nice looking I was never a fan of the soviet mass cheaper tanks combined with state of the art tanks in much fewer numbers. I mean were talking human lifes here. Shouldnt you try to give everyone the best protection you can get?

@@antimatter4733 You can always spend more on protection but in comparison to tanks like the M1 or Leopard 2 the T72 was severly lacking for that era. the udssr couldve just built more T80s which was the nato approach basically.

The best Country for Modification of T-72 is Czech
