      Brennan mentioned his reason for learning Spanish on a podcast I happened to listen to. He grew up in New York in a majority latino neighbourhood, and the family who ran the babysitting business in his building were Puerto Rican and spoke Spanish and English to the kids. Brennan knew Spanish as a child but lost it as it ceased to be relevant to his daily life.
      He said he was re-learning Spanish both as a personal challenge to himself, but also because he wanted to learn more languages and started with Spanish because he had retained the fundamentals as a small child, an advantage most non-native learners don’t get. He says he’s been making good progress on it partially owing to that.
      Sorry for the long story. I just happened to recall the answer, and thought the reason was interesting.
      I believe it was in his episode on the ProZD podcast that he speaks about this.

      Like, I have no particular desire to go kill a bunch of people, as a result, I don't really consider myself especially moral for not lighting up a shopping mall. Like, I don't pat myself on the back for it.

    • @JJ-M
      @JJ-M 2 ปีที่แล้ว +19

      @Sam Gotter morals are... complicated. Naturally, since they're a thing we devised to describe something within our own heads. Best way to think about them is the set of codes we agree with ourselves, not society, to live to, which is what makes describing them so complicated. There's not a moral code, nor do most people have a firm one, actually. They have whatever morals it takes to live within society and advance their positions. Some have firm moral codes, but those are the exceptions, not the rule, and don't think having one means having a good one; they are different statements, and goddamned do I wish they weren't.

      @@intrinsicallylast5246 see I understand where you come from when regards to this, but the recent studies show that in fact Australia exist. It states that, yes it is indeed hard to locate and resembles the myth of Wyoming that we’ve all heard of, but an expedition that took place in 2006 called the “journey of the upside” took 3 scientists and 4 crewmen into the uncharted land and they actually found a land mass, it’s unsure whether this was indeed Australia or if they mistook new Zeland, but a more in-depth exploration will be underway late January of next year. It took so long due to funding and budget cuts.

    Honestly I appreciate even more the possiblity that the stereotype was just that most North Dakotans nowadays are just people who moved there for suboptimal reasons and are just making the best of it with nothing going on in their life now, they barely meet people after moving, and are subtly trying to not be depressed about it all. I say this as someone from the east coast with multiple friends who've moved to various northern mid-west states in recent years after getting married to someone from those areas.
