Cumbrian Silage 2023. All red drag chopper team with the Massey 399 buckraking at the pit!

- A large dairy farm cutting their first cut totalling 240-acres sees a lovely MF 4255 rowing up with a Claas Liner 2800 rake while the farms latest purchase, a Kongskilde FCT 1060 trailed forager is driven by a MF 7720S. With a MF 6716S carting the Bailey & Marshall trailers back and forth from field to farm, at the clamp the MF 399 and Twose buckrake easily handles the clamping and rolling duties inside the covered silage shed. Filmed in May 2023.

Brings back memories. Sore left leg at the end of a day with the number of clutch depressions with a David Brown tractor with the same make of buck-rake. I would be 15 years old, and a MF 1200 was hauling trailers

Yes I can imagine so! A few aches and pains at the end of the day but the operator told me many years ago he used to use the DB 990 parked at the bottom of the shed to buckrake with so the 399 must feel like luxury compared to the DB. Until you have driven a 399 you will never believe what they are capable of, we have one with the heavy duty front axle, very underrated tractor they are. You have some fine looking tractors in your fleet, nice video showing them working.
They are indeed a fine tractor and there are still quite a few operating in North Cumbria including a turbocharged one that could pull a house down! @@davidwinthrop7077 just can’t beat a 300 series massey. My grandad had a 362 with a turbo putting it at 70hp. Was sold unfortunately a couple years ago, but can still remember the lovely sound that came off it when starting it up in a shed.

I can just imagine that sound in my head Jack. Massey 362 is a cracking tractor, even better with a turbo bolted on it. If I could have my dream tractor it would be a two-wheel-drive 398, if only I could find one!
@@davidwinthrop7077 good choice, haven’t seen many 398s around here, there’s a lot of 390/390ts though! I can think of 3 in within a couple miles.

Yes still a few 390/390T and 362 models around here Jack, the farm with this 399 have two 2wd 390s ( filmed them before if you want to look back on my old videos to see them) but as you say hardly any 398s though I know of one that I haven’t had the chance to film yet.
Superb Capture and editing David, the 399 looks mint and the trailed chopper looks nearly new, can you still by one of any type in this country, all the other machinary looks well looked after, i videod a 399 turbo again the other day, not as steep as last year yet, cheers Steve . 🚜🎥👍
Cheers Steve. I think Kongskilde is the only manufacturer of trailed choppers now, such a pity as I think there would be more about if there was a choice. Yes get your turboed 399 posted and reach your target of 1K subs, you deserve too. Cheers, David
What's the black pillar on the drawbar front for, seen it on other modern trailed foragers?
Hi Nigel. I think it’s a brace for the spout when it’s folded down for transport/ storage.

I have thought about getting a drone but seen as I spent a small fortune on a new Nikon DSLR camera and lens this year it’ll have to wait until I’ve saved up again. Really pleased you enjoyed the video, that makes me happy too. Cheers, David

Lovely tractor stacking the grass but jesus with the 18 speed transmission it would be a long day, great for feild work but terrible on a loader or this type work
Hi Glen. Your right about about the speedshift transmission, it’s not the best for close quarter work and the owners have said they’d like a 12/12 shuttle for this work but having said that the operator is doing a fine job here. Thanks for watching and your comment, cheers David
