Using good headphones I noticed a bigger difference in the movie sound between the two subs than with the music. The sealed sub in movies sounds a bit unnatural with the fast stopping and punchiness. The ported sub had a resonating and lasting sound to crashes and roars that sounds more natural to my ears
I’ll find out soon, using the one year upgrade option from dual SB-3000s to dual SB-4000s. My first upgrade was dual PB-2000 Pros to dual PB-3000s. The PB-3000s are in my basement and the SB-4000s will be in my family room.

You have a pretty large space that opens up to another space, and based on your usage I’d recommend a ported sub. The SB3000 might not be enough for that space either way
Many of us men are still subordinates of the "Wifey". I mean, I'm not a rug, but I certainly want her to be happy. Was considering the 3000, but maybe the 4000 makes more sense.
Just wanted to ask, which sub can you feel more, the pb-3000 or the sb-4000 I think I would prefer to go with pb-3000 with its ability to do either sealed or ported mode. But it will depend on how well it sounds, and it’s ability to make a user feel the bass.

Cool comparison. Your wife is just like mine. She could really care less one way or another as far as critically listening. She is more likely to object though because of size...which makes a ported sub a possible dog house situation for me...😲
Another great video, I have also been looking at the sb-4000, due to the smaller size. I am just worried about not getting that super low end. Would like to go duel sb-4000 piano black to go with my piano black rp-8000’s. You think rocking them duel will be sufficient? Thanks
I wouldn’t worry about the super low end, especially with 2 of these beasts. Room gain will be a factor, so the in-room response will be better than the spec sheet
I first bought 2 pc-2000’s and updated that within the first year for the upgrade program. These 2 pb-3000 literally shake my room and I thought I was going to blow out my windows, lol. They are absolutely awesome. Sorry for delayed response.
am thinking of going with either pb3000 or sb4000 but stuck on which one to go with in my dedicated 11 X 19 X 8 HT. My current subs are Klipsch R-112SW and RT-12D. Your Thoughts.. PM
I have two seal subwoofers and two ported designs. The seal has a better roll off and has clean bass while the ported has a more boomy/ muddy type of bass. If your pocket can handle it go sealed. Plus everyone has a different type of bass they acquire. I like clean and tight bass. Some like boomy/ loose type of bass.
The smaller one had a cleaner sound the bigger one has more bass and it’s louder from what I’ve heard in the video so far I’d take the bigger one for the extra bass
Excellent comparison! Would be interesting to see how many dB is from the listening position in real-time. Just as a reference of what to expect at a certain volume level
I am all over the place on what SVS Sub to buy but that "everything rattling" with the PB3000 might have just sold me. For some reason the PB 4000 just looks soooo amazing to me, I can't help but want it. I would get one 4000 now, but would take quite some time to obtain another. I could get a dual 3000 slightly quicker......hmmmm.....LOVE your channel.
listening through AudioTechnica MX40 I would say the SB-4000 is more pleasing to the ear with loads of power to spare for both movie and music. Sb-4000 is more composed, accurate and controlled. Can't go wrong with either sub if they weren't compared to each they are so close. Thanks for the comparison.
I love how you compared them IN THE SAME SPOT which is very important. There's a very popular subwoofer reviewer on here that compared subs but in an A/B test in different spots! Even level matched that isn't a fair comparison!
I bought my pb3000 in March when Corona hit. I loved it at first but the last few months I've used it sealed almost 100 percent for music, with good results. After 2 hurricanes, I decided to watch movies again. I don't know what changed. I hear port chuffing in explosive scenes like the one in The Equalizer 2 with the sub at -10 and recover at -20. I've never noticed this before and I've watched the movie a dozen times. Maybe I missed it, but now I'm paranoid and feel that subtle impacts aren't there and it almost seems boomy (sub seems to be drawing a lot of attention to itself). Maybe the sub moved a few inches and that changed it. I was planning on buying a second one soon but now I'm considering upgrading to the pb4000 before the trade up time is up. Any advice would be appreciated.
how about pb-2000 pro vs sb-4000 ultra?, i have pb-2000 pro and thinking to replace it with sealed, don't know if sb4000 will big upgrade, or maybe go over to sb-16 ultra
On the fence really.I have an 8 foot desk and use kanto yu6 speakers...Not sure which has more bang without being over kill; The sb3000 or sb4000....Any help would be appreciated thanks.
You can always turn the 4000 down a little if it’s too much. Headroom is nice to have if it fits your wallet. And if you move to a larger room in the future you’re covered!
"I don't really care about speakers, but if I had to pick... I'd pick the smaller one because it takes up less room." - The wife. After a 12-minute endeavor in picking apart their differences and nuances, that sounds about right.
I must be different than everyone else because I always seem to prefer the sound of a large sealed subwoofer I finally ported one sound muddy and hollow.

Dual SB-3000 vs Single PB-3000 for a 1506 cubic feet room with an exclusive preference for HT movie watching? No more than 2 people on a couch, no multi seating at anything. Currently running a single SB-3000 and want more base as it's working close to its limits at my listening levels
Hi bro. Please could you tell me which svs subwoofer would be ideal for a room measuring 10 feet by 13 feet in terms of a mini home theatre by the way. Thank you so much in advance.
This Is a great comparison, but it would have been better if you played the same clip on both subs and not let the clip keep going. Which sub would you prefer out of the 2? What subs do you actually own? I’m debating whether or not I should sale my SB4000 to purchase a PB3000, but I’m not sure if that’s a good idea. Clearly the Pb 3000 has better output, but the sb4000 has more head room.
I've got an sb 4000.sb 13 ultra. A pb12/2 and a paradigm sub15. I tend to prefer sealed to ported. I used to do huge ported subs all the way around but they are just a pain to move and sell off. The pb 12/2 will be the last refrigerator size sub I own. Just replaced the amp after 13 years. I use it in 20hz mode with my 3 sealed subs. It gets the job done...;)

I read your comment where you said you would get a ported sub over a sealed sub next time. I was thinking about getting the SB4000 but now will look at either the PB3000 or PB4000
I got a few questions for you. I have a BIG MANCAVE almost 9,000 cu ft. My single Velodyne DEQ-10r subwoofer which has 195 watts RMS and 390 watts dynamic which is placed in one corner does actually pretty good. However, I do not get the heart rumbling, wall shaking like I should for movies, I am mostly into movie watching a little music but not so much, so bass in music I don't really care it its there or not. But movies is a different animal. I am looking into replacing the subwoofer though. I don't like the footprint of the SVS PB 4000 (to DAMN big) and the PB 3000 is a little more tolerable but not to much. Here is the question. Question about the SVS PC 4000. Do you think that one PC 4000 should take care of the problem, I am thinking this has 1200 watts RMS and 4000 watts peak, at the Minimum power out it still is putting out 6 times the punch of the Velodyne. The PB 4000 is just to damn wide and deep for my liking. But the PC 4000 has a great footing to it. I understand that its like a used glove you get use to it and don't want to change gloves. I have talked to individuals at SVS doing my homework and research and they are telling me that I should run duels but I don't think its necessary I am thinking its a sells pitch to spend more $$$ lol. I am thinking since the Velodyne does what is does with the minimal watts it does put out ONE bigger sub will do great. I am also in the process of resetting my Home movie system. I am trying to reset my 7.1 Surround system. I am running a Marantz A/V receiver model SR 6006, 100 watts per channel. I need some help in the speaker settings. the following is what I have set it to. But I am not sure if these are correct. can you help me out and give me the proper settings for the best quality. ...... AIM8 Two In-Ceiling (Speakers) A/V Receiver / Processor: Speaker/Subwoofer Crossover Frequency (Hz) 80 Hz Stereo Pre-Amplifier or Receiver: Low Pass Filter Frequency Setting (Hz) N/A Hz Low Pass Filter Slope (dB/octave) N/A dB/octave AIM CINEMA ONES (Front) A/V Receiver / Processor: Speaker/Subwoofer Crossover Frequency (Hz) 80 Hz Stereo Pre-Amplifier or Receiver: Low Pass Filter Frequency Setting (Hz) Hz Low Pass Filter Slope (dB/octave) /octave AIM LCR 1 (Center) A/V Receiver / Processor: Speaker/Subwoofer Crossover Frequency (Hz) 80 Hz Stereo Pre-Amplifier or Receiver: Low Pass Filter Frequency Setting (Hz) Hz Low Pass Filter Slope (dB/octave) dB/octave I am very open minded and keeping all my options open. But I really need help with this situation. Also I have high frequency hearing loss due to my 20 years in the Military combat tours etc etc. I don't want to lose the rest of my hearing so I am just a little concerned about the subs output. What is your opinion on this.....I look forward to hearing from you.
Good video. Now, compare the two subs in the same scene ( Without dialogue, Example minute 8:00 ) to feel the differences between sealed vs ported in movies.
I notice that you are very active in the comments Tha_Villaman. I am just ordered a yamaha AS 701 stereo integrated amplifier for hi fi listening with Klipch rp600m speakers. I am wondering if I should get a sub and how I should connect it? I heard that a subwoofer out isnt nesesarely the best way to connect a subwoofer. The yamaha has a subwoofer output but I really want to do a good crossover so that I basically "cant hear the sub" as they say. I want the sub to perfectly blend in with the speakers and I am not getting it for the super rumbly effect but more to get warmth and all the low frequencies that I dont get through the speakers. Im thinking of SVS subs around 500€. How do you think I should connect the subwoofer and do the crossover? And also which subwoofers would you recommend?
Hey! I think a sealed sub will work extremely well with that speaker. I’ve had them playing music with and without the aid of a sub and it sounded great in both instance. It would be best to connect it to the subwoofer output since that’s how modern receivers manage bass. Check out my crossover settings video th-cam.com/video/weBsfvFR0JU/w-d-xo.html
I watched the croosover video. Just one question. How do I change the crossovers with a stereo amplifier? Does it have a software for that on PC because thats where Ill be listening to it from. Ill be connecting the amplifier to the Oppo Ha-2 SE dac through line out which is connected to my pc via line out. Is there a way for me to change the crossovers via the amplifier instead of the sub itself?@@ThaVillaMan
Thanks. The full review is still upcoming but the PB 4000 will be bigger and better in every measurable way. More output, more power, more control (more space!)

Were you streaming the movie or was it a disc? I’m new to the 4K world and between buying 4K movies on iTunes or buy a Blu-ray player and buying discs. I’m not familiar with the differences in quality
I was streaming for this comparison. I’ve done a few comparison that might help you learn more about the differences. Start with this one: th-cam.com/video/t2wCeKk-QjA/w-d-xo.html
Massive difference in depth and output on the ported sub. However, the sealed sub sounds like its more in control. Try to swap it for a sealed 18"?? Im drawing plans to build my own replica Procella Audio v18 subwoofer. Hopefully should kick ass. Im using dual Klipsch kw120's at mo which are also brilliant.
I find with most expensive high end units the sound pretty well all works the same to me. It always ends up to be just esthetics and where I want to place my money.
Witch one has the deeper bass 3000 or 4000, the kind of bass that melts your face off listening to music or a movie? Im thinking 4000 however would like your thought on this. On a differnt note which one would be good for games on a ps3 or ps4? Again i think 4000 would be however the 4000 is a beast were the 3000 is smaller but like you said not much differance unless you have an ear for it. What i want is that deeper than deep bass so im thinking the 4000 is the way to go. Again i still need your input on this. Thanks
The 4000 is better in every way, so it has more of everything. The 3000 is just really impressive for the size. That said, I’d get 2 SB3000s over a single SB4000. Check out the review th-cam.com/video/eGsBwA5IRVU/w-d-xo.html

2 smaller subs will often net you better results than a bigger sub- especially in this case. I’d go with dual PB 2000 pros (since a ported sub can be sealed if need be)
Tha_VillaMan thank you, bunches. For some reason I thought 2 SB 3000 would have been a better selection as they are a bit bigger. I will follow your advice. Thank you, once again.
The "wife acceptance factor" is heavily weighted in my house. She to can't tell the difference and simply doesn't care, but she certainly notices a massive black box in the room. Using good headphones I noticed a bigger difference in the movie sound between the two subs than with the music. The sealed sub in movies sounds a bit unnatural with the fast stopping and punchiness. The ported sub had a resonating and lasting sound to crashes and roars that sounds more natural to my ears
Loving you Villaman, all the way from Lagos Nigeria 🇳🇬. To these old Nigerian ears, they sound the same.
How is the SB3000 compared to SB4000?
Maybe, less good?
I would like to know also
I’ll find out soon, using the one year upgrade option from dual SB-3000s to dual SB-4000s. My first upgrade was dual PB-2000 Pros to dual PB-3000s. The PB-3000s are in my basement and the SB-4000s will be in my family room.
@@reggieburris How do you like the dual sb-4000s compared to your previous dual sb-3000s for movies? I'm thinking of just starting out with dual sb3000s then using the upgrade within 1 year in the future.
I haven't enough scratch for either of those. I'll be looking at 2 pb1000's. Great videos 🤙
I am torn between sb3000,pb 3000 and the sb4000. I have a large open room that has a kitchen and dining room behind the seating area. i am about 15ft from the tv and subwoofer. Thinking about duels but that would be in the future, 80% movies 20% music. front stage is Monitor Audio Silver 8s. Whats your thoughts?
You have a pretty large space that opens up to another space, and based on your usage I’d recommend a ported sub. The SB3000 might not be enough for that space either way
Im Mexican, But i think your cool. Thanks for your videos .
No Fs given from the wifey. Lol
😆
Some good women still exist
Damn. My wife complains if there isn't enough bass
Hey, what you have decided on? I have a SB2000 but maybe i should have gotten the PB 1000 PRO.
@@AexoeroV I went with dual pb-3000, and I like it, though I still need a better receiver, I’m just waiting until the next set of flagship stuff is released by Denon/Marrantz.
@@Ryand0523 they will release something new this year? I hope yes so that this generation of receivers to be cheaper so that i can afford a Denon X4700H and maybe a power amp hooked to the pre outs. I now have a X2600H in a 5.1.2 setup but i need something better and to step up to 5.2.2
@@AexoeroV I’m not sure, but I am willing to wait for the next flagship, I’m talking at least a 13.2/15.2 set up.
@@Ryand0523 you have a big room i suppose! How many height speakers you want? If i had the space and the money i think i would set up an Auro 3D configuration.
Love the music at the end. Big up boss review was well done!
Cool comparison. Your wife is just like mine. She could really care less one way or another as far as critically listening. She is more likely to object though because of size...which makes a ported sub a possible dog house situation for me...😲
Haha yup. Reminds me of when I wanted to cut holes in the ceiling... had to find ways around the objection! 😆
Size matters 😈
0:27 music or song name?
Another great video, I have also been looking at the sb-4000, due to the smaller size. I am just worried about not getting that super low end. Would like to go duel sb-4000 piano black to go with my piano black rp-8000’s. You think rocking them duel will be sufficient? Thanks
I wouldn’t worry about the super low end, especially with 2 of these beasts. Room gain will be a factor, so the in-room response will be better than the spec sheet
Ive got 2 and then shake the glass in the room i wouldnt worry
I actually went with 2 pb-3000’s, wow, I feel like my windows are going to blow out.
ThyMercenary how are they I wanna buy for my setup
I first bought 2 pc-2000’s and updated that within the first year for the upgrade program. These 2 pb-3000 literally shake my room and I thought I was going to blow out my windows, lol. They are absolutely awesome. Sorry for delayed response.
am thinking of going with either pb3000 or sb4000 but stuck on which one to go with in my dedicated 11 X 19 X 8 HT. My current subs are Klipsch R-112SW and RT-12D.
Your Thoughts..
PM
Paul Mardis my advise would be diy... of course not everyone is up for it. But in my opinion you will save money, and have more/better output
Interesting comparison I bought a pair of SB-16 Ultras.
Monsters. Very nice.
Stereo Bass, that's the ticket. Much envy.
Bigger is better. The 4000 would be another level
Not really. It has an older driver. It extends deeper but the pb3000 beats the pb4000 higher up the frequency range.
listening through AudioTechnica MX40 I would say the SB-4000 is more pleasing to the ear with loads of power to spare for both movie and music. Sb-4000 is more composed, accurate and controlled. Can't go wrong with either sub if they weren't compared to each they are so close. Thanks for the comparison.
Anytime. Totally agree btw
I just prefer the sealed box. It's a more beautiful bass. Fast and precise at any sound change. And for instrumental music is the best option.
Cool video, but was really looking to hear the PB-3000 with the ports open in music.
Already got you covered
th-cam.com/video/3xBQrw2e95Q/w-d-xo.html
I love how you compared them IN THE SAME SPOT which is very important. There's a very popular subwoofer reviewer on here that compared subs but in an A/B test in different spots! Even level matched that isn't a fair comparison!
Yea, I think minimizing the amount of variables is important in any sort of A/B testing. Glad you liked it
I bought my pb3000 in March when Corona hit.
Hi, I got a Polk Audio HTS 12 and plan on getting another one. Would it be better to get one PB-3000? Thank you!
LOVE the way you do videos! So glad I discovered you!
how about pb-2000 pro vs sb-4000 ultra?, i have pb-2000 pro and thinking to replace it with sealed, don't know if sb4000 will big upgrade, or maybe go over to sb-16 ultra
Love that bass intro! Rattled my wife's copper wall decor 😄👍
Pb 4000 or sb 16 ultra? Am finding it hard to decide on which one to get.🤔
The ported sub has a sealed mode but will slam more for movies when the ports are open. Choice is clear bit.ly/2S9syeu
Skipped these and got dual PB 4000’s and now I’m having ear problems 🤦🏾♂️
Sounds like you enjoyed them a bit too much!
@@ThaVillaMan ears have almost healed up. Has that ever happened to you?
"I don't really care about speakers, but if I had to pick... I'd pick the smaller one because it takes up less room." - The wife.
After a 12-minute endeavor in picking apart their differences and nuances, that sounds about right.
Gotta cover multiple perspectives!
That is why I’m going for the sb
I must be different than everyone else because I always seem to prefer the sound of a large sealed subwoofer I finally ported one sound muddy and hollow.
sweet! how heavy is the 4000?
Hey, how big is your room? And was one of either of them enough for your room?
Great review. They pretty much sound the same,my opinion.

Dual SB-3000 vs Single PB-3000 for a 1506 cubic feet room with an exclusive preference for HT movie watching? No more than 2 people on a couch, no multi seating at anything. Currently running a single SB-3000 and want more base as it's working close to its limits at my listening levels
very nice test i love SVS one of the best Subs..
But can you tell me what for a anime this is??
What are the towers you are using?
Sorry if I missed it, but did you do a review on the SB3000? thx
Not yet. I will be making one though!
tHa_vilLaMaN awesome!! looking forward to it!! I am really in need of a sub for my system and I really wish I could get your advice if you get the time:). It would be nice to hear your thoughts on the difference between sb3000 and sb4000! also congrats on your sub count!!

But I am not sure if these are correct. can you help me out and give me the proper settings for the best quality. ......
AIM8 Two In-Ceiling (Speakers)

I am very open minded and keeping all my options open.
Great review! What' s your thoughts on the PB 3000 compared to the PB 4000?
Thanks. The full review is still upcoming but the PB 4000 will be bigger and better in every measurable way. More output, more power, more control (more space!)
@@ThaVillaManhanks that's what I thought. But is it worth the price to go up to the PB 4000 if you have the PB 3000. I am still in the honeymoon stages with the 3000 meaning I am still in my 45 days trial period. Bass is addictive the more you get the more you want lol.
Very good point. It would depend on your room, but 2 subs are better than one, so maybe 2 PB 3000s is something worth thinking about 😄
@@ThaVillaMan have dual PB 3000 now and was thinking is it worth it to trade up to Dual PB 4000. I have the space. I just never heard the PB 4000 in person and was just wondering if it is worth the money to trade up. It would be a $1000 more to trade up.
Oh I didn’t know it was like that haha. Well if you have the space then I’d go for it. The 4000 subs have a lot more power and will laugh at anything you throw at it
Which of the 2 is the best for cinema?
The PB3000
Thanks for the great review. My HT room is 21x 13 X 10. I am not used to subwoofers, but I love the tender, low base of the old infinity servo woofers.I was turned bw 2 PB 2000s or 2 SB 3000, And after watching your video I am now considering 1 PB 3000 or 1 Sb 4000 instead. Any suggestions?
2 smaller subs will often net you better results than a bigger sub- especially in this case. I’d go with dual PB 2000 pros (since a ported sub can be sealed if need be)
Tha_VillaMan thank you, bunches. For some reason I thought 2 SB 3000 would have been a better selection as they are a bit bigger. I will follow your advice. Thank you, once again.
better to buy one large sub then buy another later down the road
If the SB4000 could be pushed so much more, why didn't you push it more so you had more to compare?
Love the set up...what type of led back lights do you have? It looks good behind the TV an and speakers...
The "wife acceptance factor" is heavily weighted in my house. She to can't tell the difference and simply doesn't care, but she certainly notices a massive black box in the room.
"Happy Wife, Happy Life" is my motto. Sure, you go ahead and slap whatever you want in that room, but you'll be paying for it for years to come.
dude you need to be using a blu ray player. the sound quality is miles away from what you're gonna get off some compressed as$ stream. or even a cd for that matter. i know on my system the same album on cd vs mp3 is a world of difference.
I know. For a comparison the streaming was just more efficient
