Been around the world and left South Africa couple years ago. But one thing I'm pretty sure of, it's the fact that this country has one of the best advertising TV Spot in the world. It can even inspire you
Such an inspirational commercial. I've watch this at least a dozen times. Besides loving the part at the end where he tells his son, I love the part where he flirts with his wife by using his cereal. "Hello Sexy". Whoever created this is a genius. Thank you!
I think it was comissioned for this ad, but I'm pretty sure they used the temp track of "Once There Was a Hushpuppy" from the Beasts of the Southern Wild Soundtrack while editing, as it's so similar.
A father, a senior man, who has lived his whole life without ever having learned to read, buys writing supplies, rolls on to adult literacy classes, practices the alphabet on his spare time, gets private lessons, reads through a stack of books, spends his nights reading well into the early hours of the mornings, even gets a gold star from his teacher, just because his son promised to buy him a drink if he read his book. Just goes to show you the distance an alcoholic is willing to go for a drink of Bell's Extra Special Scotch. The funny thing is, that though he looked like he was something like 70, and had never learned to read, he probably did it in a week after his son promised him the drink.
This is the best South African advert ever made!!!

Watched with tears in my eyes! Thank you!
I absolutely LOVE this commercial and the message of love and determination
Wonderful message, I saw this in school, shown by my reading teacher, overall, this is a beautiful video
Still the best commercial I've ever seen
This isn't so much a commercial as a sweet short film with a commercial tacked onto the end
1:42 The sincerity and respect that both of them had for each other. Just pure brilliance.
Beautifully directing and performance. Inspiration marketing at its best in my opinion
I love the music.
Thanks so much for making this video! I used this for teaching English because it is so inspirational!

I find the cashier very attractive. Who's she?
Great, but I knew what the whole story when they showed the book initially, too predictable.
0:15 Shit(h)ole? Mmm
Son thanks his father with poison, right? Story is touching though
