  • How to / Tutorial: Tornado Kick AKA 360° Turning Kick. (돌개차기 / 나래방차기. 竜巻蹴り)
In this video Carl van Roon looks at key considerations for the effective execution of the Taekwon-Do Tornado kick or 360° turning kick. This tutorial covers key points for the efficient execution of this technique. The latter half of the video explores how to recover from this kick and apply it in 3 different situations, including reference to a particular scenario in which Coach Van Roon applied this kick at a World Championship event.

Hey Van Roon, it's been 2 years since this upload. I started taekwondo in November 2021 and I am currently a full yellow belt.
Your videos are helping my perfection of techniques and I'm sad that you've stopped making these gems of videos.

Brilliantly explained. I hadn't heard before cutting directly underneath, almost like one is faking a back kick. Thank you for also explaining the front foot - the stable leg holding you up (so many people seem to completely ignore that and only focus on the leg that's moving). Maybe a 4th option would be for breaking / power, when one might want to spin their bent leg a bit more around to generate more mass + momentum.
    Thanks again!

This is one of my favorite techniques. Before the quarantine, I began to carry it out correctly, quickly and with power, without losing my balance. But at home I don't have much space and I wasn't practicing it either, so I lose my balance. This video is very useful to me, I really appreciate your advices. Thank you for your effort!

Hi Van Roon :) I have an idea: do you think would it be possible to make a playlist of your videos where one can start right from the beginning - for example, warm up, body fitness, the first and simplest kicks, and the right way to execute them, and then the sparring techniques, and then the right way to stretch - because for someone who is at the beginning in TKD is hard to search for the right videos on your channel. Thank you.

@@andrejlykov6408 Thank you. I used to train religioisly when I still had better vision in my left eye, My right eye's had no vision since birth. But since my retina partially collapsed, I had to stop for almost 2 years.
*sigh* I used to be able to throw 3000 kicks a day on each leg, and was able to do 50 'bullet kicks' no problem. Well that's life I suppose.
Anyways... Thanks for the encouragement, my friend. Good luck training to you as well.

Hi Carl I just wanted to say I really appreciate the tutorials you have on youtube ...... I am 43 years old and I am learning karate at this age with my son who is 7 .... we also both practice BJJ .... I see that you have a lot of experience as a stricker do you also practice BJJ? And what is your opinion that BJJ is the most effective martial art ... I think it is very good but for example but I would not have a chance against a bjj black belt as I could not beat a karate black belt or taekwon-do ... but now the narrative is that it is the only one that works is bjj...
