The gas (diesel!) at low rpm is just the idle governor. All cars have an idle governor, but not all cars are capable of idling while going up a hill. That's a diesel thing. The MK6 TDI also has a low idle when in neutral that would normally be too low to prevent severe lugging, but reduces fuel consumption when stationary. It will go to high idle when you start to bring up the clutch in gear, and also when it's doing a regen. Didn't mention the sound proofing! Can barely tell it's a diesel sometimes!
I've owned one of these cars for the past 2 years. same year, engine and number of doors and I would not be able to make a list of 5 things I hate. Simply brilliant car and never gave me any issues. I have no intention of selling her soon
Omg glad to read this im thinking of buying one but people are saying it will have issues😭 but i only plan to have it for 2 years and buy one with low milage. How high is your milage ?
My 2011 Bluemotion 1.6 diesel does over 80mpg on longer motorway runs and averages 60mpg doing more local journeys. I'm the second owner having bought it at 3 years old and the last 8 years motoring has been a total pleasure as this car the most reliable vehicle I've ever owned. Those that call them have probably never even driven one.
Ive bought GTIs for years. Decided on the mk6 GTD a couple years back. Its by far the best car ive owned. Cant see myself selling it anytime soon. Good review.
VW had invested lots in minimizing road and wind noise by having an extra windscreen installed. This was applied to the Golf and GTI. I use to drive a MK5 and it was super quiet inside. These are very well built cars. Great video!
bought a mk6 today. lets see how it goes. on a test drive, i was extremely impressed how comfortable the clutch was! throttle response felt like a 2L engine too on lower gears
I had the exact same car, a 1.6 TDi 105PS. Sadly it started to cost me money. Injectors, EGR valve and that darn DMF. Unless you're doing upwards of 20k miles per year you need the petrol.
I've got the same engine in my smaller fabia Monte Carlo and you definitely feel it. Also I put mine on a rolling road and the engine was producing 119.4bhp and 225ftlb which is why you can feel it shift in those engines.
@@Lewis_Treff97 After driving, if you remove the dipstick with engine running or engine cap is smoke shooting out? and is there any oil spitting out also?
I've noticed it too that it automatically gives gas when you're at low rpm, quite annoying when you're in a traffic jam and it suddenly accelerates when you're creeping forward
I have a 2012 Golf with a 2.5-liter inline five and an automatic transmission. There's nothing about it that I don't like - except for the stall that took my dealer seventeen tires to fix. Oh yeah, and U.S.-spec Mark 6 Golfs have English-only (no metric) speedometers.
I guess you couldn't find anything to hate about this car? 😉 (Since I can't find that video.) If I were to buy a mk6 Golf it would be the GTD. More power and more torque. 😁
I’ve got this exact same model. I broke down on Motorway coz of fuel injector, car went on limp mode. The mechanics put diesel treatment init and drives fine now. Very weird.
I drive a 1.4 TSI Golf Mk6, and I've test-driven a lot of MK7s. If you're going for a new one, pick either the 1.2 TSI or the 1.5 TSI if you're looking for a gas machine, or if you want anything with more grunt, go for the 2.0 TDI Diesel. That one is a beast. If you're going for a used one, try to avoid the 1.4 TSI on the Mk6. It's a great machine, but it can get issues with the timing chain. Instead, go for the 1.2 TSI. Avoid any non-turbocharge engines. Not because of the engine itself, but because of the gearbox. The non-turbo machines only get a 5-speed manual, while the others get a 6-speed. Trust me, you want 6 gears ^^
GeoStreber it's been a while mate, I ended up getting a more practical option and have a Mini instead which is pretty nice, 1.6 with 98bhp so some decent speed for a first car- also physically nicer size being smaller than a golf. Got a spoiler, some nice tyres, black wheels, black roof and planning on dechroming so it's working out well! Thanks Anyway!
Max2k I wouldn'T consider a Mini more practical than a Golf. And you'll definately pay more in maintenance because Mini belongs to BMW, so there's practically no way to do even minor repairs yourself. VW are way more tolerating in that sense. Does the 1.6 have 3 or 4 cylinders? I'm pretty sure the current ones start with 1.5L three-cylinders, which are basically BMW 3.0 straight-six engines sawed in half.
GeoStreber when I said more practical, I meant for my uses in that i don't need a 5d, boot space isn't important and for a first car I want something smaller to be easier to park and manoeuvre (my opinion). Mine is a 2011 1.6 with 4 cylinders so it's not like the new f56's that have the 1.5l engines.
Might want to include the fact this is a diesel version in the actual title and description. What you love will not apply to owners with different versions...
I do generally love these but that engine is too slow for. I would sacrifice abit of mpg for the 2 litre diesel and then remap it to make 300 ft lbs of torque

Is the Mk6 TDi ULEZ compliant?
On a flat my Skoda superb tdi130 would go through the gears from stand still on tickover only up to just under thirty and sit there.
I love my golf tdi. One thing I hate is that it’s not rwd but that’s it hahah
