One of the few songs that regularly bring tears to my eyes, not because it's so sad, just because it has this mellow but also warm feel to it. Music is definitely the art that has a shortcut to direct emotional responses. A beautiful song, pure perfection.
This song was released around the time the Beatles were beginning to break up and were barely talking to each other. The video is a testimony to that. You will note that none of the four appear together at any point. The video consists of various scenes of each member with their respective wives that were edited together. Rather than a group effort, each of the Beatles were filmed separately at their homes. I've always loved this song, and I never hesitate to listen to it again. Funny thing, I noticed you smiled at the very same part where I always smile-the scene when John turns to look at the camera and flashes a big smile. You have to admit, he has an infectious smile. And for what it's worth, I fully agree with the consensus here: your face definitely belongs on the big screen. A majority of us have seen most of these videos many times over and have no objections to them being reduced to a smaller frame. What's more, we certainly have no problem seeing more of you. Lastly, I was pleased to see your reaction to Strawberry Fields Forever a few days ago. I urge you to react to Penny Lane, which was released at the same time. They decided to release the single as a 'Double A-side' because both songs were equally good. It may interest you to know that Penny Lane is a typical Paul song, while Strawberry Fields is a typical John song. You will surely note the difference after listening to them both. Cheers to you and yours for a wonderful 2025!
Most Beatles songs were McCartney/Lennon compositions, but George featured here had some of the most iconic Beatles songs. While my Guitar gently weeps is another great George song. He had a great solo career as well w My Sweet Lord and many others.
George's ultimate masterpiece. Written for Pattie Boyd, his then wife. She had many songs for her, Layla, Wonderful Tonight, For You Blue, Bell Bottom Blues, and, of course, Something.
Contains what I think is Paul's most melodic bass lines and Ringo's most best percusssion.. Have to acknowledge George Martins wonderfully produced string arrangement here as well.. Arguably the Beatles GREATEST recording ever.. Amazing when you consider it wasn't even written by it's 2 songwriting phenoms. Shows you how deeply talented George and this band really is... And be yourself Steph when it comes to your BF. You'll know soon enough if he's worth keeping or disposing...
The video (actually a FILM) did exist at the time; there was just no outlet for it to speak of. It existed, unlike videos you now see for "Come Together" and "Here Comes the Sun" that were made years later.
George's other song from Abbey Road. They gave George two write and sings per album, Ringo got two vocals usually. The most UNDERRATED GUITAR PLAYER/ARTIST EVER. George was superb, ethereal in a way amidst the Beatles turmoil and hoopla era pre breakup.
George was a genius and could prove it when he started his solo carreer which dominated the rest of the Beatles members. Something is not only the best Beatles song on the album but also regarded as one of the best songs of all times. As I Need You he wrote it for his wife - the story will continue with his friend Eric Clapton and Layla, Wonderful Tonight etc... famous story told a thousandfold anyway.
George, lurking in the background on guitar and awaiting a chance to be known, was somehow the spiritual voice of the group. And this was powerful enough for some of the real greats to cover.
George Harrison's love song to his then-wife Pattie, who is in the video w/ Paul McCartney's first wife Linda (who passed away in 1998)... John Lennon's 2nd wife Yoko Ono... and Ringo Starr's first wife Maureen... Sadly, the drugs, alcohol and infidelity led to the split w/ Pattie (who would marry George's best friend guitarist Eric Clapton... w/ his blessing, I might add) ... George Harrison met his 2nd wife Olivia and they married... had a son Dhani... and were together until he passed away in 2001 from cancer (Pattie said she was devastated when he passed away)... Olivia still takes care of George's legacy and estate. Ringo Starr and wife Maureen split in the 70's... but Ringo met Bond actress Barbara Bach and they got married in 1981, had kids and r still together today... despite some tough years dealing w/ his alcohol abuse. Love songs are very sentimental ...and 'Something' captured a very loving moment in George Harrison's love life... It's a pity that these relationships quite often don't last unless couples get very lucky in love and relationships.
This was written by George about his wife Patti Boyd. They later got divorced and she started seeing his best friend, Eric Clapton who then also wrote songs about her. (George) If I needed Someone, I need you, For you blue, Something, within you without you/ (Eric) Layla, Wonderful Tonight, Bellbottom Blues...... She has more songs wrote about her than anyone else in history.
While we're celebrating the writer, it is worth mentioning Paul's bass here. It's just magic. And he really justifies his position as one of rock's best bass players.
Wow, your comments at the end were really sweet, and hoping that someday your boyfriend can sing this to you, even though he doesn't yet know how to sing, laugh. That's great. I'm a musician and I have written and performed and recorded songs for women that I have loved in my life, and it really is a cool connection.
One of the greatest love songs ever written. It was written by George. And, yes, the only video where Paul looks creepy. On the subject of your romance: Desperation pushes love away. It is not so much what your actions are as it is what is motivating your actions. If you do things out of desperation or insecurity than it will push love away. You have to be yourself and do what your intuition tells you to do BUT do it out of a feeling of KNOWING that whatever happens will be what is best for you. Even if you end up breaking up. The right person will be there with you at the end if you just be yourself without feeling desperate or trying to hold onto someone. By the way, I learned this from one of the top love experts in the world. I have certifications in relationships and I was able to have discussions with her and this is one of the most important things to know. NEVER act out of desperation. The energy of desperation pushes love away.
You will know when you meet the right one. Even then, things can go wrong. It's a wonderful game with great or terrible results. Gotta go for it, though. You may shy away from the exactly right one. Have a wonderful life!!!
I suggest starting your Beatles journey at the beginning. Not just for posting videos but for your own listening pleasure. You'll really get a feel for the growth and changes in their music in a reativley short time span. I recommed the album of their number 1 songs as a quick introduction. Also their first movie, A Hard Days Night, while fiction, captures the feel of early Beatlemania and their individual personalities quite well.
No. This advice about starting a Beatles listen at the beginning, is just someone trying to dictate when something should be listened to, how it should be interpreted. One should never try to control how or when someone starts a musical journey, for the Beatles or anyone else. I started with Paul McCartney's solo work, later listen to the Beatles' middle period, then the early music, and listened to the later work last. I didn't plan it that way, and I wouldn't presume to tell listeners how to take their own musical discoveries.
@@keithbrown7685 What you're suggesting is like try to learn about advanced algebra without knowing how to add and subtract. I made my suggestion because having lived through the Beatles from start to finish, knowing how their music developed is just as important.
@@mr.macbeevee498 I fully agree with you! I've lived through it too. On another note, are you familiar with their very early days in Germany on the Reeperbahn? It's because of that time that they were such polished and energetic performers by the time they got together with Epstein and started making those famous records. 👍
@@ricklee5845 I am familiar with the basics ot their time in Germany. I've heard the gritty recordings that exist. I think I still have that album, somewhere.
I'd be happy to sing this song for you! 😊 😊 The best you can do in any relationship is to give whoever it is plenty of room and allow them to be the person they are. Above all, it is crucial that you are given the same courtesy. In doing this, you both will discover their true character of your personalities. It is important to observe how your partner handles the good and the bad side of life experiences. The hard part is knowing when to back off and when to comfort. I wish you the absolute best of luck.
Something my long life has taught me is that when you’re with your bf don’t “act” anything. Just be yourself and be true to who you are. From what I can tell you’re a beautiful person inside and if you let that shine your bf will see it.
"The perfect bass line" - as someone put it (as he analised it, here, in TH-cam). To me, the most melodic bass line ever!!! And, itself, a song within the song!...
Happy for you to do anything except blurring a video. It is the worst possible option. If you are going to blurr a video it is better just to listen to the audio with no video

Nice reaction however I'd much rather see you in at least half the frame then just in the little corner. We all know the video, a good view of your reaction is what we're here to see. 😉
Great song, one of the best! It's too bad the video had to be blurred out the whole time. I think I like you better in the larger part of the screen with the video smaller.
Great song and album, you should react to the entire, original audio when you can. For me and many millions of fans, it is one of the best albums ever, and in the debate as the best, period. For one of the heaviest songs in their entire catalog, from the same Abbey Road album, try, I Want You (She's So Heavy). John Lennon blowing our minds! Incredible banger that influenced heavy music to come. Simply the best, enjoy! 🔥🎵🎸🎤🎸🎤🎸🎹🎻🎶🔥
Try - AND I LOVE HER. Early young Beatles, romantic song with a salsa vibe, was a head of its day. ..sounds like you should be having a conversation with your boyfriend, and get out of that "wanning/unstable energy".
Music videos bug me for first-time reactions because it takes attention away from the actual song. There are very few exceptions (e.g. Johnny Cash's cover of Hurt).
Arguably (along with "Cold Turkey") the song that ended the Beatles. George had become too good a songwriter. A song John and Paul and producer George Martin showed indifference to for months winds up being so good it becomes George's first "A" side with John's "Come Together" the other side. A Beatles single without a Paul song on it. Paul couldn't accept that. So when they met shortly before Abbey Road was released, to plan the next album, John proposed giving George an equal number of tracks and Paul said "no". That, right there, was the end.
Thanks for your reactions. The new format of the video didn't turn out well. Everything was blurry on the music video, and it's worse for the eyes than a blurry video in a small format. You yourself are always beautiful, but make the music videos in a smaller format, especially when they become blurry. Good job, keep it up. Greetings from Sweden 😉❤
Steph, esse novo formato não é bom para brasileiros como eu, pois a legenda fica bem em cima do seu rosto. Acho que o anterior, como foi no vídeo de "Civil War" do Guns N' Roses, é a melhor forma.
The main attraction is your reaction, so I prefer seeing you on the larger screen. On the relationship question... If you can't be yourself with whomever you're with, how can either of you be happy long-term? But then, this is coming from someone who isn't in a relationship and hasn't been for quite a long time, so...
Hailed as one of the most beautiful songs ever written. Said Frank Sinatra, no less. One of their first songs put to vinyl was written by Harrison/Lennon. AFA this video lay-out, the main screen being blurred is distracting.
featuring the Beatle wives. minor detail - look for one of the wives in the early Beatle flick ' Hard days Night'''''. hint, train ride. the format - I find the large background fuzz out kinda irritating. depends highly on legality , both U.T. and copywriter , I think for some reason the Bealtes are strict ??? Why, they need more $$$ ?
It's not The Beatles who are to blame. The company that owns the copyright to their catalog is Sony/ATV Music Publishing. They are the ones that are in control.
Reactors should be seen, and not blurred. Actually, the blurring is OK, since we've all seen the vids or heard the songs, but we do want to see you larger, with all the wonderful nuances and such.
Another Beatle reaction with no regard to the great music. Just focusing on the video which, by the way, was not part of this song when it came out. The Beatles made the music. Not the video. Close your eyes and listen.

I agree. I would just add that maybe you could vary the format depending on the video. I know that means extra work though.

Elvis Presley called it-The greatest love song ever written.
