It’s weird, and maybe you’ve helped me with this - but this is the least sad I’ve ever felt about the frost hitting. I’m counting the past harvest, and seeing the dead foliage as needed food for the soil. So much hope and promise for what’s to come next year!! Thank you for talking us through each season, Jess.💚🌱
One of the toughest days of the year.. First frost and freeze.. Thinking about you Jess and how you have served so many and not feeling your best.. Prayers for you always thru this new season...
Hi Jess, you can also make a drink/punch using pumpkins. Just boil and cool it. Blend it with Nutmeg, cinnamon and sweeten with condensed milk. Chill and serve ...spiking it with a little rum is also optional.
Yesterday, my Lantanas were blue/yellow/ orange, gorgeous. Today.....brown because of the frost. I'm a child of the 60's. The song by The Byrds always comes to mind, which is taken from the Bible. "To everything, turn, turn, turn, there is a season........And a time to every purpose under Heaven" The song goes on and is beautiful. I'm grateful to live in a state that has 4 distinct seasons to help me appreciate what God has given me over the seasons of life. Bless you Jess!
In Australia we never pick our pumpkin till after a frost or two, unless its to eat within a few days. Canning in chunks works well for eating year round if they don't store well.
I listened to your health report, very informative. Thank you for sharing. I know it was hard, but the help to others will be appreciated. I am putting you in my prayer jar. I pray every night at 8:30 pm. I am 75 years old, my husband of 59 years went to Heaven a year ago. He had pelvic therapy for a chronic condition with his bowels. Love to you and your family, you have given me much needed support by sharing your gardening. Thanks and Blessings
Such pumpkin abundance! I love the feeling of searching through plants and continuing to find more and more food that you werent aware of! Take us into the kitchen when you do the pumpkin puree, please?!
I did my own puree with pumpkin pie pumpkins. After I baked them with a coconut oil slather on the skin, I ate some of the fresh pumpkin, and it tasted like a super sugared sweet potato. I ended up hand mixing the meat of the pumpkin, and froze it in bags flattened. I plan on making pumpkin pies and other baked goods for Thanksgiving. It was really easy to bake!
@Optimistic_Bonnie thats awesome! I don't think I have ever eaten just straight pumpkin, but I'm sure it's delicious! I will be experimenting with trying to turn my decorative pumpkins into roasted pumpkin puree soon!
Jess, Laura at Garden Answer (TH-cam) always plants a Blue Hubbard near (but not right next to) the rest of her pumpkins and squash because the squash bugs always flock to that plant and leave the others alone. I don’t have squash bugs (that I know of) so I haven’t tried it, but she swears by it. If you can grow a blue Hubbard squash in your area, I’d love to see you try it … curiosity and all that, ya know? 😂
I can confirm squash vine borers love my blue hubbard squash. They are the first that are always hit but they do end up spreading to my other squash. I plant blue hubbard because I actually want them, but I have yet to harvest any.
I just had to tell somebody that would understand my excitement!! I just got a HUGE Chip Drop. One of those huge double dump trucks. She said it is all oak and just a touch of pine. It is wonderful!
I have absolutely felt the longing this years end. I am excited for a new year in spring. He keeps us looking forward when we really want to linger in comfort. God bless!
Jess, Pumpkin Millionaire and Chicken Queen, loved and followed by her admiring flock! Truly loved seeing the joy of your harvest on your face! Continuing blessings and joy on your weekend! 🎃🎃🎃💛🧡🤎🐓🐓🐓🤎🧡💛
Congrats on this great pumpkin haul. My first frost brought so much snow I never saw the frozen plants only the frozen blossoms of several tall Marigolds.
You are adorable in your excitement!!! I can’t help but be excited!! Thank again for not dwelling on the sadness of our world, but always remaining positive and faithful!!! I can’t wait for Spring!! It was 23 so I harvested many green pumpkins. They are in the window sill we shall see! Thanks again!! God speed!🌻
Finding all the pumpkins in the patch is so much fun! Like digging potatoes, there is always more if you keep looking. I love a good start it and forget it crop! Yay for pumpkin rich. would love to see the final pic and tally of how many you got!
Jess, your pumpking harvest is truly amazing (as is all that you and Mia do with your family and on the farm)! Pat yourself on the back, sit and relax a bit with a slice of yummy pumpkin bread and some warm coffee!
I love that you wanted to have “all the pumpkins” for a while. Exactly my sentiments, but. Would put them in my living room and place them all around me.😊
When I saw my dead giant volunteer morning glory this morning I cried. I was shocked and not ready for this moment! I did not harvest my pumpkin on a stick and hope the orange ones will last for decor. But my morenga in my greenhouse looks ok! Excited for your peppers!
I nominate you Pumpkin Queen:). That is a Great harvest. I grew my first pumpkins this year. They were extremely small . But love knowing I learned how to grow them. :). Thank you for being a inspiration to me and others.
I’m in Connecticut, we had a heavy frost last night, finally dug up my baby potatoes today, very happy with my little harvest, all my gardens are cleaned up for the season
My favorite pumpkin dish is pumpkin in a sour creamy sweet mustard sauce to eat with rice or bread or polenta or whatever you like. In a large pan saute some onions (optionally with some finely diced mushrooms), add diced pumpkin and then after 2-3 min fill up with a little water (optionally replace some of it with white wine or veggie broth), cover with a lid and cook until soft enough. Pour over a mixture of sour cream, sweet mustard with full or at least still visible mustard seeds, honey, and lemon to taste. Gently stir it in and serve right away with something green on top. My favorite dish my mom found in a old German organic cookbook when I was little.
I so wish I could get pumpkins to grow! I listened to your podcast yesterday and you are not the only one who thinks about food all the time. Today we ate a meal that almost everything but the chicken I started from a seed last winter, talk to while they where growing, harvested, spent hours preserving, and loved every second. The best though is when your family loves it and chooses it instead of eating out.
Death, but life. Love, love to see the chickens go after that pumpkin. Almost the highlight of my day.. The highlight was Nov 2 at 9:30 pm last of my daughter's had a baby boy (healthy) no more from them. 7 lb about like your small pumpkins.. 😊😉💕😍 God Bless all. He sure Blessed me. Now I will get greats, in time....
I had an elderly cat that stopped eating. My vet said that sometimes they just do that and it could be his time to go. Well, not on my watch. After a lot of googling thru tears I found info about giving a cat canned pumpkin if they stop eating because they love it. I mixed some with a little bit of his prescription canned cat food and fed it to him with a medicine syringe. After a week of feeding him that way, he started to eat again on his own. Pumpkin saved his life. He lived another two years.
I have been following USDA guidelines that say to can pumpkin in cubes not puree. When I open a jar, I puree it in the blender then drain it through a fine filter. My favorite pumpkin bread recipe calls for puree and water, so I use the liquid I drained off as my water. I recently saw a compelling TH-cam about canning the pureed pumpkin so I may give it a try to compare the two methods.
We grow neck pumpkins here. One year, we had about 25 pumpkins - way more then we needed. Several years ago, my pumpkin plants got carried away and grew up in a pear tree. What a sight to see was pumpkins hanging from the pear tree. We started to make pumpkin pie without the crust. They turned out pretty good.
What a haul. That is a lot of pumpkins. How blessed you are. Pumpkins are not a lot of work. They don't have a lot of pests and predators. As long as they get enough sun and rain they are pretty self sustained. I grow sugar pie pumpkins. They are smaller but very sweet and not too stringy. Pumpkins seeds are a great natural de-wormer. They paralize the worms and they get flushed out. I love your pumpkin wealth. I bless you and your family.
Pumpkin soup is the main way we eat pumpkin and something I never hear that Americans eat. It’s so easy and delicious on a cold day. Pumpkin damper is really yummy like a big scone, bread made with pumpkin.
Here in Michigan we frosted over a week ago. Sad to see all my hard work go. But it's ok. Kidding season ended all are due February next year. I have two meat rabbits due in about two weeks then two more next month. So I stay pretty busy all year long. Thank you for sharing. God Bless
I will be dehydrating pumpkin this yr for powder…makes a very fast purée as opposed to freezing it. Canning chunks of pumpkin is approved but I think dehydration or freeze drying may be a good way to go!
I will can cubed pumpkin. It's approved and easy to use. We like to make pumpkin Mac and cheese with our jars. It turns the Mac super orange without the artificial color. Also makes for really easy soups.
I definitely feel pumpkin rich this year! 22 pumpkins is a huge jump from my 2 last year! The garden is full of surprises like that, it's gives and takes. Best cucumber and winter squash year I've ever had but yet barely got tomatoes and okra for fresh eating. Already wondering what the 2024 garden will be like! 😅
Jess thank you I'm so glad you shared. I'm also glad there are a lot you've missed. I've only been successful with the little pie pumpkin because of the squash bugs. The little pumpkin grows quicker than the others. I was happy to get 4 this season. I bless you
What a great harvest of pumpkins! You actually can pressure can cubed pumpkin. I canned 24 quarts of pumpkin almost 2 years ago. We have 6 qts left and they're all still good. I do need to use them up soon though. Food Preservation is awesome.
I didn't plant any this season but last year I put two pumpkin seeds in a 4' X 8' raised bed in my little garden for my 2 year old grandson. We got 14 pumpkins out of those two plants! I only have four of those 4' X 8' beds surrounded by fence and the pumpkins absolutely dominated my little patch!
I really enjoyed seeing the bounty of your pumpkin harvest. I love growing pumpkins myself. I get so excited just watching them grown. I always think,"I had a part in that".
As I watched the early shots in the video, I was amused to see the chickens following your movements like it was entertainment for them, it really did make me smile, maybe they need a little enrichment in their pens along with the pumpkin treats.
Amazing Harvest Jess😄 I forgot to get cuttings of my Tulsi and basil plants and now they look the sane way. Thiese 20 degree nights here in NC Mountains destroyed EVERYTHING 😶😣
I like to cube pumpkin and toss it in the slow cooker with butter and molasses and some spices and let it slow cook until soft, then serve with strained yoghurt or whipped cream. It’s so good!

Hi! Thank for your video it was great to be able to see your pumpkin abundance! I was wondering if you knew the amount of pumpkin seeds that you planted?
Jess, Very nice harvest. Your green pumpkins will ripen off the vine and cure. I pick all mine green as there was not enough time to ripen and put in the living room - all of them are now ripe! Even my squash are ripening in the living room. My pumpkin's are a pie pumpkin. I even had a couple green ones that I missed that got frosted and they are ripening. Just thought I'd share my experience. I might have to try and get seeds for this variety. It is recommended to pressure can the pumpkin in cubes - however, I hot water bathed puree years ago and it is still fine (before I knew differently). I researched the worming aspects of pumpkin, after a recent discussion as I didn't think they would help - I found a couple recent studies that have found that pumpkin does not deworm as being claimed - it surely won't hurt them though and after all, it helps the food bill.. Congratulations on a great video and a successful harvest.
I still have pumpkins out in my garden. I grew Cherokee tan rhis year and rhere are about ten ripening still. This was the biggest success I've had, although they are a small variety of pumpkin. I will save seeds for sure.
I found it hilarious that the flock of chickens followed you back and forth, back and forth, while you were picking those pumpkins! 😂
Same! I was so relieved that she gave them one. My chickens have me so manipulated. 😂
The entire time, I was saying, "Come on, come on, give me a pump😮kin. Give me a pumpkin, PLEASE give me a pumpkin!!" 😂😂
I was watching that and I sat and laughed literally out loud and thought “man they are really hoping for some snackies!”
yes I was laughing, look like y’all was playing a game.
I was coming to say the same! 😂
Someone needs to make some sticker art of that cat sitting on the pumpkin in the patch!
Watching the chickens running back and forth following you while you were harvesting was very entertaining!
My garden was weeping this morning. But this afternoon, my Baker Creek catalog came, and I started daydreaming about my spring garden 😊
Mine came too! 2024 here we come!🎉
Looking forward to next garden!

I couldn't agree with you more!!!!
Seasonal depression runs rampant in my household, I am so glad this year hasnt been as difficult also

I’m giggling at the chickens watching you harvest pumpkins
My family love pumpkin chili this time of year!😊
Yum. Can you share that recipe!

Funny watching the chickens follow you !😊😊❤
Dr. Kibbler should be considered a national treasure! You are so blessed to have an heirloom historian. Those are beautiful pumpkins!

@@wearethedepinets Are vine borers and squash bugs the same thing? 😱 I didn’t realize that. 🤪
@@TrixieJFerguson No they are not the same , but they will both decimate your squash plants.
The chickens are hilarious!
I just had to tell somebody that would understand my excitement!! I just got a HUGE Chip Drop. One of those huge double dump trucks. She said it is all oak and just a touch of pine. It is wonderful!
Awesome! Congratulations!
I wish so bad that I could get that where I live!! I signed up to get it but never did.
Lucky you, I just had an offer here in Germany with 400 € for 10 cubicmeters, very expensive!
I have absolutely felt the longing this years end. I am excited for a new year in spring. He keeps us looking forward when we really want to linger in comfort. God bless!

Thank you for being such a big inspiration for so many of us. 💕
🎉Whoohoo! Pumpkin Richness!!!💛💚🧡❤

Have you ever tried pumpkin pasta? It is a nice savory dish to use pumpkin in.
Congrats on this great pumpkin haul. My first frost brought so much snow I never saw the frozen plants only the frozen blossoms of several tall Marigolds.
I find it so satisfying when chickens get put in the garden after the frost. ❤ I can’t wait to see it haha

That is amazing on the amount you got out of that patch. The green ones you can cook like zucchini.

Love the pumpkin patch! Enjoy! Baking pumpkin while watching this today from 2 big jackolanterns! Yum! Going in the freezer!
Amazing Harvest Jess😄
I forgot to get cuttings of my Tulsi and basil plants and now they look the sane way. Thiese 20 degree nights here in NC Mountains destroyed EVERYTHING 😶😣
We harvest soooo many pumpkins and squash at the end of every season! We make pumpkin chili, any kind of Asian saute with pumpkin, soups and curries.
I LOVE that kinda rich!!! I'm jealous (in a good way) over your pumpkin harvest!! YAY JESS!
I like to cube pumpkin and toss it in the slow cooker with butter and molasses and some spices and let it slow cook until soft, then serve with strained yoghurt or whipped cream. It’s so good!
Yes, can chunks of pumpkin. It works great!
I grew jarrahdale this year, for the first time. I’ve read they are tasty. I cannot wait to try. We’ve had a 1 acre pumpkin patch for years. Hundreds of Connecticut Field pumpkins and gourds. Many family vacations from the profits of those patches.
What's jarrahdale? Never heard of it.
Also...seeing you in that grrenhouse makes me really want to see y'all incorporate a woodstove heater in it for those really cold nights. Maybe that is crazy😊. God bless!
Being rich in home-grown food is the best!
Hi Jess. I LOVE the Beulah coffee. Great job with this venture and the quality of the product. Wishing you much success with it. 😃
Great pumpkin patch and harvest
I also received a pumpkin patch, I moved the chicken play yard in early spring and right where it used to be a pumpkin patch grew...all I did was water and fertilizer a couple times and I got about 40 pie pumpkins before Halloween!!😊
The chickens all followed her back and forth. They got their exercise.
I am so glad I covered my plants the past two days here in Louisiana. It dropped below 30 last night. I planted carrots and lettuces about a month ago. They seem to be okay. It is not supposed to get below 40 for a while. I hope they can make it. I wish I had done it earlier but it was so hot! It went from 90 to 30 in a month :( and will be in the 80s in the next few days....
Pumpkin soup, got a love that pumpkin sump.
WOW that is a lot of pumpkin!!
I love it when things grow out of the compost! Beautiful pumpkins, I’m gonna try to add some next year!
Just moved my citrus into my garage before that frost hit. Anyway, happy to watch your vlog Jess. Goodnight.
I'm jealous! LOL. Great joy as the season winds down. try pumpkin puree, sausage and gnocchi . savory and delicious.

Love to harvest. Congratulations on good year😊
Three rivers did a freeze dried pumpkin and made a jar pumpkin pie, all you need to add is the wet ingredients when wanting to make pie or breads.
Congratulations on your pumpkin success!!!
I still have pumpkins out in my garden. I grew Cherokee tan rhis year and rhere are about ten ripening still. This was the biggest success I've had, although they are a small variety of pumpkin. I will save seeds for sure.
You could roast the pumpkins that were left out during the frost amd puree them and freeze so they don't rot and jeep the others for fresh eating.
I was picturing you gleefully rolling around in your pile of pumpkins, since you are pumpkin rich, after all!
