I just realized Maurio speaks and explains so well (for example, when he's explaining the importance of shoulders in the center of gravity)... he should have a section for himself here.
This is my favorite trick. The feeling of when your back foot catches the board, and you hear almost a slap sound, is the best. And yes, Maurio's kickflip is incredible.
I love this trick. Been doing it for 18 years. I don’t even Ollie off or on stuff I go straight to kickflip. He has one of the cleanest kickflips in the game definitely one of my favorites
You you should always mention jumping forward when explaining tricks like this, you need to jump forward with the board in addition to all the excellent advice given here. Lots of folk learn the trick standing still and fail when rolling, same applies with Ollie's etc etc, jump forward with the board.
This was great. I've landed a bunch of kickflips and I still can't land them consistently ever. One day I'll get it. Maurio and Santa Cruz are crushing it.
After 1 and a half years i learned it a couple days ago and the 2 Things helping me the most was the momentum that u pop and Flip out at the same time and that u gotta lean forward. There are a couple of tutorials where they say lean back
I try this trick for years now, got the pop, the flick but can only land it with one feet and got that wrong movement stuck in my head that I can not change it so far, it is so frustrating. Maurio has a beautiful Kickflip
Also pay attention to Maurios backfoot while he’s doing kickflips in action. There is a slight inward rotation in his leg and a few days ago I’ve noticed that my kickflips are way more controlled when I’m rotating my leg like this.
Really good video. I'm trying to improve my kickflips at the moment and this pretty much answered everything I have been wanting answers on. I think the questions the presenter asked Maurio were so helpful too! Oh and those flips are absolute butter
Found out yesterday I MUST kick through the nose or they always rocket and I do a disgusting heel clicker type thing. Kickflips are finally becoming fun (skating 15+ years)
My name's ethan. I liked some of the videos and more to come and subscribed to the channel and I counted all 33 kick flips. I've been trying to get a bigger board since last year and I started skating two years ago and I'm progressing really fast. And my current board is barely clinging to life. Missing chuncks missing out of it. I have only had 2 boards in during these 2 years and both are 3.1, I've been looking for about an 8. I don't have a way to get another board I've been looking around my town for one, I've asked people where I can get one. But I got nothing in my reach. And I saw this and I hope for the best. I really like skating it's an escape, and a daily challenge. I really don't want to stop now. So fingers crossed🤞🏻😌😬 (btw I've always wanted a Santa Cruz board).
Really great information. Not only were Maurio’s instructions awesome, Andrew’s questions guided the instruction really well. I’ve always sucked at kickflips. I feel like I learned something that might actually help.
I ride regular and learning when I was younger I would have all my weight on my back foot and when I went to flick I’d be leaning so far back that when I flick the board would flip around perfect and flat and tail would come up but my body was falling behind where the board would be going out. Then I started keeping more weight over my front foot learned about loading the board before I ollied and that would help me stay more over the board. It was lot easier moving then standing still. When I stood still and did it. I would have to let the board do that roll back motion feel. Kinda like how you would do a tech deck lol
I really like the way you explain how to do stand, the center of gravity and the shoulders how to keep them straight. I think 🤔 what you are doing is really helping lots of people how to skate ❤️👍🏿🛹🛹. Keep doing this man 👍🏿😊 I watch your videos every day and then go out and practice the the tricks 🛹🛹🛹🛹
the key to the kickflip is all in the shoulders to keep that center of gravity (otherwise the board does not stay centered under u) its not in your feet ironically lol
I’ve been trying to land them for so long but my back foot dosent go up. My feet always land before the board even though I have solid ollies. ppl telling me it’s a commitment issue ruined my confidence real baddd I don’t even go to skateparks anymore
I learn this in my 2 month of skateboarding but im already late. start skateboarding in 16 years olds and now my need to rest a little bit because I sprained my toe
@@32srt32just spend more time learning to get comfortable riding switch and learning to Ollie switch better it helps train the popping foot. I learned switch flips first try but it took me months to get them flicked properly
The best explanations I have ever heard are from 'Skate Hacks' for sure. Or VLSkate. Decent/above average skaters who aren't pro but are a lot better at explaining than pros. probably because pros are usually virtuosos who have had skating come more naturally to them as kids. they can't explain the mechanics because they haven't studied them on paper and the motion just comes naturally to them. can't communicate that innate feel and sensation.
There's a lot of incorrect bio-mechanical and physics advice in this video. He knows how to kickflip well and what he thinks helps or fixes issues is not really the root cause of the issue. For example shoulders don't do much influencing of the board's directional input (you can tweak out you shoulders and KF very well), but what he should have known is vertical body axis positioning does a HUGE amount. He probably fixed his body vertical body axis by adjusting his shoulders which aligned his axis correctly. That worked for him and HIS issue but that's not the fix for others with an aligned vertical body axis. It could be sticking your butt out more, less curve in you back, more open shoulders etc etc ... it's personal regarding how you fix that and the old advice of aligning your shoulders is typically bad advice for a crowd. He's also got the physics of how the rear foot kicks down the tail wrong. drop a weight on the left or right side of the tail and video in slow motion what part of the tail hits the ground... it's the center tip of the tail. it's all physics.
I just realized Maurio speaks and explains so well (for example, when he's explaining the importance of shoulders in the center of gravity)... he should have a section for himself here.

Yes, especially when you walk, your weight should be more on the front foot than on the back.

Too smooth! I heard that he invented the silent disco and doesn’t have an echo either
really nice tutorial. very good explanation. the guy knows what he's talking about & he has completely deconstructed the trick
When he is flipping the board , his back foot is almost the same as Ollie, giving a nice and clean pop. Such a Very nice kick flip !
@maurcoy , so clean your kickflip
very good in depth explanation

This is the one trick I know I have on the pro level I kick flip like 3 boards high on my normal ones and I catch it both feet and stomp
I want to kickflip like this. Please.
with my kickflips i bring my back foot up too much so i have to focus on not bringing it up so high.
I’m the opposite my back foot never goes up no matter how hard I tryyyty
thank you now i will go outside and full flat on my face trying to land the kickflip stunt man style.

I definitely agree with you here. Like Luan for example, he has his shoulders open when he’s doing kickflips and 360 flips as well.
