Make sure you have a no trespassing sign in visible view on your property. It makes a big difference legally.

    • @LiveSimpleLiveFree
      @LiveSimpleLiveFree  ปีที่แล้ว +19

I'm not sure whether a no trespassing sign would make any kind of legal difference or not. Not trespassing on private property is implied in the law. But we do now have signs up stating that this property is secured with cameras.

@@LiveSimpleLiveFree depends on your local jurisdiction. Law enforcement takes their orders from elected officials on what to enforce and some jurisdictions can’t arrest if there isn’t a posted warning. Only if the criminal “breaks the close” ie gets inside a window or door of the premises.

Wonderful you were able to do this yourself & save the installation cost. How long will the solar panels last due to the hot Florida sun, rain, etc? I'm getting ready to change from the Nest to Ring for my front door camera. I often have to sign in when I go to see who's at my door. The person is then gone & I can't talk to whoever was there nor see them! Not very useful!

That's interesting bc when we snow birded to Florida we noticed when we went for walks everybody had posted their properties with no trespassing signs which we thought was kind of odd, so maybe we better follow suit!

My son has a lot of packages delivered while he's working so he installed security cameras. He bought them on Amazon, they were inexpensive and work extremely well. They send an alert to his phone if there's any movement on his property. He took a trip out west and let his teenage son stay at the house. My grandson called and asked me to come over and spend some time with him. I forgot all about the cameras until my son called me and thanked me for bringing dinner to his son.....said he was watching us on camera!

That's a great investment and peace of mind for people that own property and homes in different states. The squatter issue in Florida isn't any worse than any other state necessarily, but it's the squatter rights laws on the books there that need to be addressed. Heck, if a person chooses to become a squatter, what better place than the sunshine state. It's just absurd that you would need to go through an eviction process to have them removed from your home. That just blows my mind. It's great that you've taken precautions to secure your lovely home and loved ones while you're there and away. Good job.

    • @LiveSimpleLiveFree

We have been using a different system now for three years on our farm. After both of my parents died after getting CoVID I was unsure how to protect both my home as well theirs. My brother came up with a system just yours, and I finally could sleep knowing that I was able to be at both places at once visually. What I did expect that at their house on the farm the amount of wild life I got to see nearly daily. It’s truly amazing what technology has done for us even though we criticize it at times. Thanks as always for your wonderful channel!

It is so nice you have done your best to protect your home. Florida does sometimes have prolonged cloudy and rainy days. I do hope you have success with your Ring system. You need camera's to watch the camera's because you have the porch camera facing the driveway and the gutter camera focused on the back yard and your solar line is easy access for clipping. Just a suggestion, putting your lines in conduit making it harder for the lines to be snipped. You are such a lovely couple and I do pray that this does work for you, on the other hand I know Florida weather and the high crime rate. I am at my South Carolina home now away from my Florida home and before I leave either home I stop and look and pray to God to place Angels on my roof top to keep my home safe from all harm. I know you are a Godly family and I know you understand what I am talking about. This is my 19th year going back and forth and God has not let me down not even one time, praise God. Welcome to Florida and enjoy your journey, may your day be blessed and full of happiness.

First, the batteries last for 2-3 months without being recharged. So even if someone clips the wires, the camera will continue to work for several months. Second, I did not show you all of our cameras! And third, our house is in a small town in north Florida with a very low crime rate.

My daughter has one for her home here in our hometown as they live pretty far off the road and were having problems with people stealing packages from their front porch while they were at work. So it works great and I know it will certainly bring peace of mind to yall. We have a vacation home on our family farm in Georgia and we are so glad that our family keeps an eagle eye out for us. In addition we have a gate that we lock when we are not there. One of the things you really do not think about until faced with keeping a property safe while you are not there. Great decision!

Bill, I am glad you brought security cameras that also turn on outside lights when someone is near your house. That should deter would be thieves from breaking and entering. Years ago my sister had her house broken into while we were at work. They stole her daughter’s camera and portable safe that had her important papers in it. The police later caught this dangerous thief and my sister had a security system installed.

We used these cameras to help my Dad be at home and keep him from needing a nursing home. My sister took the days and I took the nights. Someone was always there with him but it allowed him to not feel like people were following him around. Then if he needed assistance we could talk with him until the other could get there from another room. It also allowed us to watch how hospice nurses dealt with him. Most were great . We did have issues with one. We could hear the conversations and he felt complete privacy. God bless you both!

Sounds like you've done everything possible to make your home safe when gone. I especially like the lights idea. We would also leave a TV on when gone for months, but you could also consider a radio. There are always things that can still happen that will be out of your control, but you've done your best. There are always the kind of criminals that don't care if there are cameras or not if they think they have an easy target with no one home for months at a time. They know they can quickly break in, grab what they want and be gone before police get there. It sounds like you're in a smaller town where there probably isn't as much crime as in a larger city. But you can't worry about every little thing that can happen, it would drive you crazy.

For some strange reason, the solar panel did not maintain a change on our Ring Doorbell. I eventually bought a wall-wort-style doorbell transformer. Thankfully, there was an outlet under the house intended for a heat tape to be plugged into near our front door. I installed a second Ring doorbell when we built our garage. That just meant drilling a small hole for the wire in the wall and plugging it in. We stay home a lot. The cameras give us peace of mind because the neighbor's kids come over sometimes. Plus it rings on several smart speakers in and around the house when someone presses a button.

I wish we had known about the Ring benefits when we bought our house in Tennessee while still living in Maryland, since we had the house for almost a year before we sold the house in MD and moved there. We had to get ADT Services and really still didn't feel like we knew what was going on with the house. We had made friends with the neighbor beside us and had his young son doing the lawn mowing. But, it meant we had to make a point of traveling 8 hrs one way every couple of months to check on things in person, even though the neighbor was keeping an eye out. It wasn't much fun driving South in the middle of winter when the weather was unpredictable. Sending prayers all goes well for you with your second home. I have to say Elizabeth seems so much more vibrant with the stays in Florida. I know my parents really enjoyed living there after their retirement.

I have a ring system. Very happy with it. You can talk to people you see on your phone.

Blink is good. The batteries last at least 8 months but up to 2 years. We have them and pretty happy with the product. You need a car with a Florida tag sitting there, and I just want to say you both are too open with information people don't need to hear about where you will be. Love you guys God Bless You 🙌 ❤️.

The problem is, when we do videos it will be obvious whether we are in Florida or Virginia. As long as we do videos on this channel, there's no way to hide our location. That's why we go out of our way to never mention what town we are in.

Here in Arizona snowbird neighbors leave cars when they leave for the summer. Also neighbors with 2 cars who live full time will help by parking one of their cars in the absent people's driveway to make it look occupied.

Maybe put a bug in the lawn mowers ear to visually check the inside of the house (thru the windows) to look for evidence of a squatter? You've motivated me to check this out!

Bill and Elizabeth... you can also get the wifi light bulbs with wife and turn them on and off at different times so people think you are home. That is not a step I have taken YET... but I have never rerated having cameras. I have regretted times when I have not had them. I think of them mostly as a preventative item. Altho... I love being able to check on my cat when I am at my parents visiting as well.

Ring is nice. We used to have it at our old house. We are moving out of Ca so we will get it in the new state.

❤😊Fabulous idea and solution! Are you using the same insurance at your home in Virginia? You don’t have to say, it is a privacy matter, but I didn’t hear anyone asking. Just stay safe, free of worry and be well! You are in my thoughts, prayers and heart. Fran

I can't help but notice the white wires are very conspicuous against the dark green paint trim. Perhaps you could camouflage them by painting them the same color? Otherwise, a determined thief could just snip those wires and bypass your system. It won't be foolproof but could add to the security of the system.

The wires are just for the solar charger for the battery. If somebody clips the wires, the batteries will still last probably at least three more months.

We have simply safe security cameras and ring security camera for our home office.. we use simply safe security cameras for our home. We also can use our phone to check on our home when we are home or when we are away. We even have a key alarm on our keys to set our security alarm.. it reads home.. away and off on our key ring.. our key ring also has a emergency button if we should need it.. 😊..

Squatters took over the house next to us and we decided to get Ring cams installed for safety. They came in handy when one tried to break into our house. We were at the store, got an alert and saw what was happening. Called the police and they got there before we did! It’s a great system. The only problem we’ve had really is when our internet service would go out occasionally and for some reason they needed a hard reset once in a while. Your cameras are different than mine though so hopefully that’s not a problem. Sometimes it just took rebooting the internet, through the provider app or customer service, and the cameras would connect again. Oh, and the other issue was that for us you can’t use your phone to make calls (like to the police) while you are watching the video. We actually have a dedicated device at home strictly for the ring app so that we can text or call about what’s happening from our phones while watching activity on the dedicated device (an older iPhone). Hope that makes sense. Good job securing your home! Praying you have no worries. P.S. If you want another fixer-upper, the squatter home is being auctioned in a week or so. It’s really nice basically and they haven’t done too much damage, but we’d sure love some nicer neighbors! lol God bless.

Bll . Check out Florida's law regarding squatters . Im not sure if its a new law or has been on the books for a while . Basically it states that if the owner signs an affidavit saying the squatters dont have a right to be there , the police will help get them out . No messing with the courts .

I was thinking about security on your home also. Unfortunately, we have to worry about safety all the time.
