As an artist I like to remember the phrase “Create to express, not impress.” Of course we want others to enjoy our art, but not everyone will and I never want to lose the delicious happiness of creating.

Juan Perez trump has a great many things to say, very plainly, and easy to understand unless you are complete idiot. You just don’t like his basic reinforcement of American ideas such as freedom, law and order, national borders, and the right to reach your highest potential without government interference or from political Marxists and other identity Democrat twits.

what im confused about is people saying this girl has no technical skill....when its obvious that she has mastered life drawing, a commitment to line (which is a lot harder than it looks), color theory, etc. and has developed a consistent and marketable aesthetic. as a painting major who tends to paint and draw realistically, realism isnt the only art style, guys. i really feel like people's perception of art is so plagued by "oh this person is able to make a perfect copy of this thing that exists in life. that means it's creative and good." and to be fair, hyperrealistic art can be artistic and meaningful, but a lot of the times, realism can be a debilitating crutch that doesn't allow you to actually create meaningful and creative concepts behind your work. so im really just begging yall, please expand your artistic horizons beyond fkn bob ross (love him tho

Lovely to see her sketches and illustrations hung up on the wall. I'd much rather see those glimpses into expressive and spontaneous illustrations than one hyperrealistic oil painting that might as well be a printed out photo. Appreciating one style of art doen't mean it is the only valid one. Artists are not only "good " after they master hyperrealistic oil painting or whatever people assume to be the height of artistic abilities. A lot of times the biggest Part of an Artwork is the intention behind it. i'd encourage everyone who judges her artwork to spend a few weeks filling up sketchbooks and exploring work like this and see what you learn about it . just because you don't like something doesn't mean it's bad . ;)

o how i love those people who don't care about art at all say: ''i could do that'', or ''my little sister makes better art''. Well maybe you can do that, or maybe your little sister does make ''better'' art. That doesn't matter at all, it's something that she loves to make, and is beautiful to her, and a lot of others. Some artists have immaculate technical skill and still choose to do simple line works and colors because it brings them joy. Art isn't just hyper realism, to be quite frank, a lot of people that are in the art world, respect abstract art way more then hyper realism. It shows you bring your own mind and put your own soul and heart in these works. Hyper realism is so impressive but basically just copying a photo. Don't waste your breath on that argument about how your little sister can do that. It doesn't impress the artist at all.

I love this, I love the simplicity and the freedom. Sometimes it gets kind of... claustrophobic, in a way, to try to paint and draw in a realistic way or following all the anatomy rules. It's nice to go back to our early days of childhood when drawing was exciting, free and not stressing. Sometimes I find myself stressed over the perfect line and I stop enjoying the making process. This is beautiful.

Not sure why people are being so harsh. She actually has skill behind the illustrative style shes decided for herself. Her images are simple but they aren't as "naive" as people seem to think they are. Its clear that she has made stylistic choices. Not that she just makes messes and hopes for the best. The work in the video is pretty consistent and the characters are solid. It actually shows that she has figure and head drawing knowledge.
Shes an illustrator. Not a realist painter. I mean, you dont judge designs in a magazine or book by comparing it to an old masters painting.

Oedipus At Colonus yes I really think she actually does. Look at her drawings of people. Some of them are more abstract, yes, but others show clear attention to proportion and reality, a fundamental skill. She can draw faces from different angles while keeping them accurate, something that no one without knowledge of the fundamentals can do consistently. She also talks about her use of color and the video shows color schemes that she has arranged. Looking at her works you can see how the colors work together and are pleasing to the eyeballs :) don’t fret, you don’t personally have to like her art, that’s fine. BUT she isn’t as unskilled as many people in this comment section are saying.

The line drawing of the lady she saw in the street was full of character and immediately made me wonder about who she is and her life. I love that she has taken the old school and turned into modern whimsical art. Art is about appreciating the beauty in all things, even if it doesn't seem to follow the rules of realism and art. It follows its own rules and lives in a world of its own.

To the people being an art critic,
Creating a new art form and believing in it is hard,
Those who are saying this looks 5 year old did it,
Yes, may be and that is the point here,
Like many of the paintings you look at those perfect people never existed as such, appreciate the realism
And those saying many of the talented artists are being ignored
Look will you like to see, movies based on a love story a 100 times, or will you like to see variation in story ?
These art forms are like that, talent isn't the main thing here new way to see things is
Picasso when start to create cubism was criticised
Van Gogh died in poverty turning slightly delusional because his art form was considered bizzare as it was different from art being created at his time,
So unless you go and dig up old stories, don't become an art critic, please accept the humble request

Awantika Mishra yes but he was accepted for already proving his understandable of anatomy and tones and the other fundamentals. You can criticise whatever you want because art is subjective, if you dont like it you dont like it. From a personal view she has put far less effort into art studies than artists like John Sweeney or simon Stålenhag and is on the same level because its traditional. Theres a difference between creating a style and lazy art. The difference is the ability of the artist and understanding if you refuse to learn the fundamentals its not a style

Art isn't about whether it's "good" or not. It doesn't have to complex techniques or in-depth understanding of colour theory or any kind of background study involved.
It's really much more about appreciation and personal taste. There will always be art you love and art you don't.
What is art really? It's whatever people want it to be. Just because something is simple, it doesn't make it any less beautiful.
As long as the artist is happy with their work, nothing else matters really.

For all the naysayers in these comments, Isabella's work is worthy of a second look. It is full of energy and like all art makes you ask questions. Hyper-realism, in my view, is not art at all; it is a technique that can be learned over time and repeated over and over again. But Isabella's work is art in that it makes you see not what is on the paper or the canvas, but what is in your soul; it holds a mirror up to your being and says 'take what you see and use that to reflect your view of the world'. She does this so well through the use of physical and facial expression which is fabulous. In some ways she reminds me of a young Maggie Hambling.

    • @BielichDai

realism is something anyone can learn. This, what she is doing is through instinct, no one can teach you this. It's expressive freedom, and because it's harder to master, it's more in demand.

"Very kind of like" ... I think we must STOP using this dreadful means-nothing-dilutes-whatever-you-are-saying phrase. The moment I hear it, I stop hearing anything else. This is not a criticism of Isabelle Cotier. It is a criticism of our present general UNCONSCIOUSNESS. Nearly EVERYONE does it.
I'm impressed by this young woman's work (and her demeanour).

You have done a Collaboration with Gucci? ha ha ha - are you serious?..................so it's about money, wealth and privilege - not actual skill or dare I say "real talent" I am also assuming your family are one of Gucci's best customers. I do not know what Planet House & Gardens are living on. It's so ridiculous!!!!!!!

  • @kb-ih7ni
    @kb-ih7ni 4 ปีที่แล้ว +28

What happened to respecting each others’ art? If people like it enough to show it with Gucci then there must be something to it. It may not be Da Vinci or Picasso level but who cares? She does what she likes and if other people, no matter how few, appreciate it, who are we to judge? If pretty rich and well-connected does art we all say they’re just riding on the coattails of their parents. If someone with no connections and money does art we praise them for pursuing their passion. Not all art needs to be hyperrealistic or should have a specific message. She explores color and bold confident lines, portraits and figures and snapshots of real life she observes. It may not be MY favorite style, but I’m far from belittling some other person’s creation just because of their background. They’re even free! What is with all the bitterness.

Reading a lot of comments I saw people talking bout that art isn't just hyper realism etc etc
I feel like art is when the lines are bold and confident, be it any art style and that it captures ur perspective of what u see when u see a table or any scenery of any sorts. Art is a representation of what is of value to you in the scenery...what stands out for you. It could be the minute details or the the bold lines and boundaries or some sort of expression etc. I really think we should stop making claims on what is art and what it isn't. Maybe u yourself would relate to some other art style some other day...it's just a matter of how u see it. Maybe. My thought.

It's supremely edifying to see an artist that is not cocksure about they're being an artist, but rather a confidence in the vision, the discovery of new things. So many artists unfortunately have their reputation as part of the cult of personality rather than in the lost tradition of art as a window into the imagination and not a mirror reflecting one's ego.

  • @witchbitchgirl

I really want to know what qualifications the critics in the comment section have to allow themselves to shit confidently on this girls' drawing style. She has an amazing understanding of color schemes and form, and it's apparant that she studied art academicly but eventually came up with the style she feels most comfortable in. And even if she didn't study art professionaly, what's wrong with that? What's wrong with people doing what they love and getting credit for it? Art is supposed to be fun and allow expressive freedom, not a gated community only for the artist that you consider "real artists". Get over yourselves, let people live.

IMO many of these comments "shes a bad artist" is due to her art being highly reductive. Lots of those sketches on the wall are studies of paintings (nothing wrong with that, just kind of weird presenting it without context, that will lead people to believe it was her own idea). Feels like she opened up a mattisse art book and went, "okay, ill just do that." I don't think she lacks skill, maybe lacks originality. Its freaking hard to come up with something new!
I don't envy fine artists for this exact reason. There's a huge precedent of making yourself sound like something new, fresh, somehow a commentary. I'm in the commercial sphere, and i even when i start talking about art it sounds pretentious AF, so i get it. She's inflating her process to be this intangible artsy thing, I'd respect her a lot more if she was just like "yeah, noticed those big fashion houses are super into chagall and mattisse every five years or so, I hopped on the gravy train. now I wear gucci sweaters and get that paper."

haven't read the comments specifically saying this, i'm assuming they've gotten buried, but - people are saying she doesn't have technical skill!? LOLOLOL. those people have no fucking clue what they're talking about. i've studied and practiced art and drawing for years - decades - with an interest in abstraction but also a deep appreciation for and practice in the basics like life drawing, which i guess is the "realism" some people here claim she isn't capable of.
to all the folks saying or thinking that: here's the thing. to be able to have such a loose, confident, yet expressive line like hers, that captures the essence of the people and scenes she's depicting - that's the result of / based in years of developing technical skill. and frankly if you think otherwise, you just don't know what you're talking about.
same thing with her use of color. the sophistication, energy, and confidence in her color choices and combinations - that comes from years of close study of color, how color occurs in the real world, of color theory, etc. i aspire to be as skilled in my work as someone like her. to me she clearly is someone who has a grounding in solid technical skills but from that has developed a style that is completely, uniquely her own. and that's what art is all about. learning the rules, knowing them so well, that you can "break" them and still make beautiful things.

yeah going off what other ppl are saying, she clearly is way beyond the stage of rendering realistic forms. she grew up in Florence and London, you don't think she wasn't drilled on being able to draw technically well? she's past that phase and going into the unmarked territory of creative interpretation. that's why studios reach out to her and not you lol.

As the daughter of two fairly commercially and creatively successful illustrators, I'd say her work is charmingly naive, but I know my father would suggest more practice for nailing the details. I'd guess that there is not much detail in the images because the skill and confidence in rendering isn't there

If you like her I bet you like Basquiat too
No judging I just dont understand it, or how it can go for millions
Its usually because people are willing to pay so much for things that obviously aren't hard to make yourself
The artists name or their connections
Sorry but hyper realism or surrealism (Dali, Michelangelo) takes a different caliber of talent in my opinion

  • @robbieguerrero3351

Yet so simple, but sublime. The mix of color reminds me of the latency of Van Gogh. The work is impressionism of the classics. Not to tardy on the scene, there is relevance again for pastels and the quick hand of God. Never forget that artistic gifts come from inspiration who is just a muse. The channel for Isabella Cotier returns the basics of Sesame Street meets Bob's Burgers.....Oh so rudimentary, but aglow with real shazam.

What I like about this day and age is that we Artist are not governed by rich people's wants and impressions of what is good and not good? A perfect photographic picture using paint is of course a wonderful achievement. I have and you probably have seen special needs artists completing that task in half the time? The outcome of individuals' art is what they see in their mental photography displayed on canvas or paper. What they see and what is right to them in what they feel is the finished product. It's easy to look at someone's work and say, the shadowing is wrong. What I am saying is, in my case if I do something that I feel is outstanding , I blame it on the creator giving me guidance on how it's done. This young lady is achieving something I haven't got to yet? Satisfaction God bless her.
