Hi there. This is a fantastic tutorial. A great use for all your old CD's and an expensive way to make mosaics tiles without having to go out and buy mosaic tiles, tile nippers etc. Thanks for sharing, I''m going to try it out post haste. Elaine.
Can't wait to try this. Building a tiny house on wheels and want to up cycle as much as possible. I can see my future back splash made from from old CDs and DVDs. Bonus is I make it myself and save money !
This is absolutely Amazing - coloured mosaic - out of cds. With the oven heat it does smoothes the sharp corners n avoids one getting hurt or fingers pricked when handling them Totally enjoyed this video n will definitely put it to.use. Thanks so.much for sharing. Have subscribed n . looking forward to many more tips .
what about the melting plastic fumes from the oven? And did you remove the pieces from the foil while they were still melting hot, or did you let them cool down first?
Thank You🌹for responding so quickly (most don't) Your very kind😊. Also something you probably already know - if you use your heat gun & warm the CD it's a little easier to cut with the scissors. HAGD!
good to the point with no fluffing about, I might even give it a go!!! I wonder if you can put little pictures between them and get a similar affect.........
I love this idea of using old CD's and painting & melting them in the oven. I would suggest painting an entire CD one color, and cutting it into squares when it dries. Would that work? Of course you might need the wet paint to "glue" the top coat of clear CD square onto it, but if you strong enough scissors or a knife to cut a double layer of CD's, "the CD sandwich" with paint in between, that would make it even easier. Would that work?
I think is a little more hard what you suggested, I mean you'll need a really strong scissors or cutter and you might hurt your hand by doing 😞, also you have to paint it and put on the oven I didn't tried to paint, dry and then oven. Either way it can work the same just I think is little harder. Take care. 😘
I think your idea is better...Paint the CD, and then cut. I'm also thinking that you could spray paint the CD as well. There Is HEAT paint by Krylon, not sure they have very many colors...but it's out there at Home Depot. Then once it's dried...Cut them. There are good scissors out there, better than the one she used.Juliana
I dont like because the cd are not really cheap and it needs a lot of work and time.....when you can simply use mosaic cards from shop they're about 1/ 2 $
Be sure to use an old Toaster Oven that is no longer used for food...just crafts. Keep. window open or do it outside (in a DRY area to avoid electric shock). Have fun!
Plastic fumes are very toxic. When you heat plastic the vapors can make you very sick, cause lung disease or cause cancer anywhere in your body. Toxic fumes can also cause brain damage.
Hi there! I love your idea so much I am actually cutting CDs at this very moment :) can you please tell me the difference in putting wet or dry paint in for baking the CDs? Also how long should I wait for them to be ready to use on crafts like stepping stones and pottery. Thanks for all your wonderful help so far.
+mama warrior yeah i used acrylic paint, set your oven like at 220 C and keep them inside for about 10 minutes it could be less time that's but why i always watch them cuz when they start to bubble they are almost done.
Thank you for the video, I've got some ideas to mosaic (this is a whole lot cheaper then buying them at the store). I have a question; you said to bake them at the hightest temperture for 10 min. - my oven gets 'really hot' and I'm afaid it would melt the CD. What is the 'highest' temperature that you are referring? Thanks for the idea.
dangerous? well take any precaution you need to use the oven and i didn't get any smoke or smell and about it durability i made this video more than 2 years ago and mine still good.
I put out an electronic newsletter called Quarterly Green Tips for my other company (Sun Sugar Farms) where we market reusable collapsible grocery shopping crates and other reusable items to cut down on waste. I have been trying to figure out what to do with my old CDs and this is a great idea. Can I share the link to this in my newsletter?
+Omar Alkhalil actually when the plastic of the cd's melt it make the titles one piece so if you wash them the water will not go inside, i didnt apply any water thu
+Make It Easy Recipes thanks for replying, i have just tried this but uncolored just to test thickness and texture, i was hoping for slightly thicker results. but still its a great idea, the ease of nipping these are quite efficient unlike glass and ceramic, i wonder if baking a whole uncut CD would work to shape out any desired cut.
Hi! thank you for your comment, i haven't try to leave one shiny side but i think that the heat from the oven it may ruin the sticker that makes the shiny on the cd. let me know how it goes if you try it.
+viviennejc Well, poster paint, is really water based, so the paint doesn't have any thickness, or intensity of colour. I can't tell you if the result will be the same as if you do it with acrylic paint.
Hi Dima, well you know, the difference between the oil painting and the acrylic is that the oil painting takes more time to dried is less thick so i'm not sure if you will get the same results, maybe the colors will fade. The acrylic will stick faster, that's why i used acrylic. I will not want you to do all the work cutting the cd's and then at the end you will not get a good result so yeah i advice you to use acrylic painting. Thanks for your comment and for watching.
Absolutely gorgeous! But I have to ask...seriously, is no one questioning the toxicity from melting plastic in the oven??? Kind of dangerous and please don't bake when you have children or pets in the home! Safety first 😉
First thought I had too. One suggestion I read from Fimo years ago was to use a foil roaster with a lid and save that for possibly toxic projects, that way you do not have the tiles too close to the source of heat so they can burn.
I wanted to see what YOU decorated with them. I bet it looked great! Thanks for showing us how. 😊

thanks for your comment and welcome.
what about the melting plastic fumes from the oven? And did you remove the pieces from the foil while they were still melting hot, or did you let them cool down first?
Thanks for the quick but informative video. Great job. Am trying it right now. Already got my supplies and did the cover of the CD with the tape.
Thank You🌹for responding so quickly (most don't) Your very kind😊. Also something you probably already know - if you use your heat gun & warm the CD it's a little easier to cut with the scissors. HAGD!
N Vega Awesome! i should try that.

+Marlene Maharaj welcome
Wonderful and creative ...... When you put it in the oven ... Is the fire coming from above or below the mosaic?
Oooooossssssummmmmmm 👏 👏. Thnx for sharing sister
Very well done video. You are a good teacher. Look out, CD's here I come. ;)
Catalina Tucker hehehe thank you!

No, the edges woud be choppy
@@marietoutsimplement.9442 Absolutely. Cutting it beforehand and then heating it will smoothen the edges. Original idea is still better. 👍
1st time watching your video. I like your craft very much. Now i learn something new. With this craft, i can create something. Tq so much for sharing.
Be sure to use an old Toaster Oven that is no longer used for food...just crafts. Keep. window open or do it outside (in a DRY area to avoid electric shock). Have fun!
Why?

Thank you for sharing this! New subbie, so I will be checking out more of your videos!
+Angela Nash thanks
Make It Easy Recipes n et puis voilà
I tried this and it doesn't work. The silver coating won't come off the cd.

Arlene Spaulding well i think about 200 Celsius will be fine i mean all you need to do is to watch over them. Thanks for your comment =)
Wowww genius!!!
You can soften those cds up before you cut them by soaking them in a metal bowl of boiled water for about ten minutes before you cut them.
U can soak in hot water also to remove the paper?
,should the oven be preheated for 10mins?
Wow amazing 👌
+shailendra vaishnav thanks
loverly .....and your voice
Good idea 👍🏻❤️
+Ali Raafat thank you !
Beautiful 😍
At the highest temperature for 10 minutes, right? For all ovens the same?
Brilliant idea. Thanks 😀
thank you!
How hot was the oven and for how long xx please xx
Do you use acrylic or oil paint?
If only cutting cds were this easy
Great tutorial. Can d painted cd be sun dried. I live in d tropics w plenty sunshine
yes
Great idea.
fabulous! love your accent too
Why wouldn't you do 2 cds and cut after you paint b4 you put in the oven??
thank you my friend, short and sweet strait to the point:)) cheers
Very beautiful & I love your easy, to the point demonstration! 👍😎
Looks awesome.... I wonder how dangerous this is and how durable the end products are
dangerous? well take any precaution you need to use the oven and i didn't get any smoke or smell and about it durability i made this video more than 2 years ago and mine still good.
Yes, but what about the dyes some of the CDs use? I read somewhere that some of them can be very toxic and you're not even using gloves.
Extremely dangerous
Very creative! Thanks a lot!!!
welcome
❤nice
¿Se pueden utilizar para decoracion de exterior? Por ejemplo, en una pared o un muro?¿ el color resistirá?

of course you can, I'm so glad you liked the idea 😄
Did you make a kitchen backsplash? I wanna see
Creative, thanks for sharing, but does the paint wash off tiles if water was applied?
+Omar Alkhalil actually when the plastic of the cd's melt it make the titles one piece so if you wash them the water will not go inside, i didnt apply any water thu

hey .. lovely idea.. just a query. . wt paint did u use .. can v use acrylic ?
yeah you can use acrylic painting.
Umm, why are you not utilizing the most beautiful part which is stuck to the sticky tape?
Can you think of something to do with that part too?
+leighatkins22 i actually didn't think about it yet but i guess we can try to do something hehe.
What temperature will be there?
awesome idea!!! thank you
welcome and thanks!
What a great idea. thank you so much.
you are welcome 😊

+Martine Merci! I set my oven at 220 C. keep watching them until they start to bubble on the surface.
+Make It Easy Recipes Thanks and good continuation.
Best regards from France...
♥♥ Thanks! ♥♥
can i use something else apart from an oven (cause I don't have one yet)
Pearl ex powder with a touch of water makes very pretty ones
Una pregunta...se puede pintar con óleos?
Very niffy idea.
Before placing them in the oven did you let the paint dry first?
+diona gilliard no i didn't
looove this video, would this tiles work to make a mosaic in cement mushrooms?
+Maria Vera i haven't try it actually m
WOW. I wish I could like this a million times. Awesome. :D:D:D:D
can we make it in microwave ?
whats the highest temp? I tried at 350 what do you put yours at?
Can a person use one shiny side on the bottom and a clear one on the top? Would that work? Would it stay shiny? Love your tutorial, great idea!
Hi! thank you for your comment, i haven't try to leave one shiny side but i think that the heat from the oven it may ruin the sticker that makes the shiny on the cd. let me know how it goes if you try it.

+Maria Ahsan don't use microwave no.
Thank u for the beautiful video. i just want know whether after colouring the cd pcs before keeping in the oven it should dry? Thank u
Hi, you color the pieces and dwhen you finish put them into de oven, they will dry inside. I hope I clear your doubt. Thanks for your comment 😄.
Is it safe to bake these in the oven? Will it release any toxins or chemicals in the air?
No it's not safe!!! Yes
lovely idea however it would be better to paint a whole cd and then cut it up.
Yeah i agree I'm looking into how to make mosaics (didn hav tiles) and i think this is a brilliant idea
Will the CD still play? :D
awesome idea! the tape your using is box tape or packing tape not duct tape.
Jane Renee duct tape also comes in clear and is stronger than packing tape.
zane4utwo شش!
Hi, I like it. It is good for me learn English too. You don't speak to fast and have soft voice. 'Thank you!
+aurea araujo i have wolf voice 😂??
Make It Easy Recipes sorry, I wanted to say soft voice!

Zou dit met een haardroger werken i.p.v een oven?
dat is waarschijnlijk niet warm genoeg. Misschien met een schildersföhn?
Stefanie Vermaas oké dank U voor het reageren
Absolutely gorgeous! But I have to ask...seriously, is no one questioning the toxicity from melting plastic in the oven??? Kind of dangerous and please don't bake when you have children or pets in the home! Safety first 😉
+michelle proctor 😋
I was questioning that and also how much waste goes into making these glorious little squares.
My plan is to buy a cheapie toaster oven at a thrift store, and use it outside, lots of ventilation. :)
First thought I had too. One suggestion I read from Fimo years ago was to use a foil roaster with a lid and save that for possibly toxic projects, that way you do not have the tiles too close to the source of heat so they can burn.
michelle proctor Yes, it extremely toxic!!!!
Love this idea for jewelry
