Colbor CL100X - A pocket sized 110w Aputure Amaran killer?!

- Aperture Amaran better watch out, because there's a new budget friendly king in town. I was sent this light by a company I had never heard of at the time and I was pleasantly surprised by the outcome. Don't get me wrong, it's not perfect... but it's WAY better than I was expecting.

Thanks for the ownest review! You are right. The USB-C port is what stops me from buying that light. I want to work when I'm at work, and not think of the USB-C connection. Also, that disconnected light will put my reputation down in front of clients. Nobody wants to hear jocks like: Where did you buy that light? Walmart?
I'd think the reason they designed the bowens mount detachable is perhaps 1) they wanted to keep the fixture size smaller and Bowens mount makes the fixture itself larger 2) you can't put the fixtures together with their male-female feature if the Bowen's mount doesn't come off. That's what I think. I see cases that if I had this light I won't use Bowen's mount sometimes and use an umbrella instead. So I think it's nice that it's detachable, although I don't have this light.

the manuf doesn't show power options for stacking them, do they also power off one light or they provice daisychain cables?? I kinda think it's an important part since the whole point of this design is stacking. I hope it's not 9 power adapters plugged in the wall lol
I have no idea, unfortunately they sent me one so I couldn't test or find that information.
I like this light but Bowens adapter is poorly designed. It easily slips off under the weight of a softbox, when pointing the light at a downward angle. I’ve recently had a shoot where I needed to use a lantern style softbox, pointing the light almost straight down, and the softbox together with adapter kept falling off. I was forced to improvise by using short bungie cords to connect the softbox and the boom arm, which took all that weight off the adapter. I wish there was a way to screw in the adapter, or use friction method similar to that used in the included swivel arm adapter which attaches the light to a lightstand.
There is a hook for the wire
I bought a CL100X for video, but the led turns off after about 5 minutes and the message TOO HOT appears. Do you know why this happens?
Did you change the fan speed?
You just mentioned how you can stack them as a big grid and then said you dont know why the bowens mount is removable 🤦 The only way to make that work would be for the lights to be bigger (making the grid of lights take up more room)
Just don't use the amaran projector mount it will overheat. Learned on a job. :(

5:28 you could strain relief it, like people do in the audio community, you can wrap the cable one time near the mounting bracket
