A little tip. When you were describing your cost break down.. you said take your operating expenses and divide by 160working hours. I recommend you factor your cost at a 60 or 65% scheduled rate. If you factor at 160hrs- that means you have to be booked for 160hrs (100% capacity) to cover cost. That’s not really do-able. In your line of work you- there are many factors that will prevent you from working. Main one being weather. But if you figure your numbers on a 60% capacity, which is realistic, then you can cover your cost even with delays and down time. So instead of dividing your cost by 160hrs. Maybe divide it by 100hrs or 120hrs. That should give you a safe buffer that covers downtime.
ima dude just spent damn near all my life in prison I'm 46 as of yesterday. I found your video to be good stuff bro. keep it up . the last 2 mins was the best....this will be my life for the next few years because im not going back. and your effort to make this made the decision even more serious. thanks
Hey dude one thing I always appreciate from your videos is your honesty. I “officially” started my dirt work business the end of last year and I work a good full time job at the same time, funny enough my father works in HVAC… anyways.. I am the main income and support my wife and two boys, so that was the primer for me starting the side business. I appreciate your insight and am learning along with you. God bless.
Hey man. Love the videos. I'm in landscaping now but working into this field. I typically try to add 20% to all materials to cover taxes and give you a little buffer. You are spot on with your travel time, equipment load/unloading. I don't think people really understand how much goes into preparation for each job. I'll add a few extra hours in if I have to find or call around for materials. It's funny how I'll show up at 10am with everything and people will say man you start late.... Uuuh no, this stuff doesn't just appear on my truck😅 God bless brother! Thanks!
Thank you for sharing the information. I have been by into the construction side of life for about 5 years and I have been deciding where I want to concentrate my efforts. Because of your inspiration shot, I am going by to my roots of a heavy equipment operator. I appreciate the estimate information because every entrepreneur has to account for their time to stay in business.
Hey man! Love ur videos, thank u for the motivation and drive that u bring in this types of videos!. Thanks to u I got my own skid business down here in Puerto Rico! Much love!
Hey bro love your videos. Do you have any previous videos where you break down the cost of different types of insurance, average fuel, maintenance etc. ? Basically expenses someone can expect to incur when starting out.
Hey Cole I have been watching your videos and find them super inspiring and it’s great how much I can learn from them.Anyway I am 15 years old and am going to tec next school year for hvac, but like you my dream is to have my own excavating business when I am older.Do you have any advice for me?
Love your videos! I’m 23 and started my own grading company this year and still have a full time job as well. I do have my CDL’s so I’m wanting to eventually get a dump truck and do grading and hauling full time. You’re definitely inspiring me a lot but I’m having problems getting business. Could you do a in depth video on how long it took you to get your name out and what all you did?

Truth about the one thing that I want to know about the business, truly a blessing to see someone answer my questions with me asking the question.
Great video, appreciate the information! Can you do a video for calculating material needed on jobs, like dirt, gravel etc
Yes sir, I got one in the works now!

Where do you get most of your lead flow from? Any marketing strategies that worked for you?
I appreciate the advice. October will be a year for me starting the business. You’re correct bidding is the hardest part.
Awesome video and thank you for sharing it.

Great information my guy! Your set up is kick ass! Do you ever plan on getting a mini excavator?
Thank you! Eventually yes I will purchase one! Just waiting for the right time.
God Bless You, your family and business!

Hey man I’m in the exact same boat with you
Yes I can make one!
Thank you for spreading your knowledge!
How do you charge if you’re having to rent equipment when first starting your business?
Figure up equipment cost, then add up how much you’ve got to make.
$150-$190 an hour in my situations for you and a machine. Not including materials.
Pro Tip: When getting over the phone quotes. just ask: PRICE OUT THE DOOR PLZ, taxes and all. Makes life easy.
Great video. What invoice maker do you use ?
QuickBooks
Good stuff. God Bless
Can I get examples
Thanks brother
What software are you using for your quotes?
I pan on getting a 16' dump trailer and skid loader. How would you haul a land rake attachment. I don't think a bucket and land rake will fit?
A Harley rake or a land leveler like
I have?
@@MORE_DIRT yes i think they're to long to fit in a dump trailer with a skid for a land leveler. How should I haul it to jobs with just a dump trailer
I actually set mine up on the gooseneck. It will fit though with the skid steer
@@MORE_DIRT I saw that and liked it. I am most likely getting a bumper pull. So I'm glad to hear it fits. Thank you again!
Do you make customers sign a contract before starting so you know you will get paid at the end?
Yes, I also require 50% down before I start work.
@@MORE_DIRT roger that, has that ever been a problem with customers asking for 50% up front?
What software do you use for your estimates and invoicing
QuickBooks online
@@MORE_DIRT it does payment processing and all?
Do not mention your trucks "weight loss" online. EPA loves to go after small business owners
