To clarify, those are not "The Spinners" of Spinner Cult infamy. Those are just dancers who occasionally like to spin. And we were on the floor in the front corners of the summer stadiums back in the day as well. Hallways for indoor NHL/civic center shows, front corners or back of floor for the stadiums, or the lawns in the summer. 🕺💃
@@edm781 Not only are they not "the spinners" it just doesnt feel the same anyway. A lot of this crowd is too young to have experienced Grateful Dead shows and the energy that was present. The old days in the halls, on the floor, or in recesses of the lawn was a collective dance with the entire crowd. There was some of it still in the early days of the other ones, but at this point it feels disjointed and nearly contrived. That is not to take away from anyone's enjoyment, but just how I experience it now.
@@photoslum I don't begrudge anyone just for not being born at the right time to see Jerry. I'd much rather have it continue on that to have gone by the wayside. People still want to hear great live music even if the original has passed, SRV, Hendrix, Coltrane & Mile music, Mahler, etc etc.
Jim Hernandez I felt that the second I got to Soldier Field in 1995. My first dead show & Jerry’s second to last. I smiled for the entire 5 hours I was there.

Great thing about Dead music, there's lots of different internal rhythms happening combining to create an overall groove. As a dancer you can choose to groove to individual parts or the whole.
But plenty of people did look this way. if you ever spent any time in the hallways or portals, it looked just like this. a mix of ages all getting down to music they love without being worried about what people look like. you should try it. surprised you didn't learn not to worry about how others look/dance/dress back then.
I've been listening to the GD daily for 44 years and was blessed to see them play 60-70 times. The slow tempo of Dead and Co is mostly unbearable, but i like this scene.
The dead dance floor is the only place in the world no one judges how you dance or move or whatever you do , you just go with it , its all inclusive, spontaneous happiness abound . Flowing with the killer vibes all around you , an expierience everyone should try before you die .
People had trouble with traffic and getting into the venue I hear. It filled up for sure by second set and after. Why I go early anymore. ❤️ 💙 💜 💖 💗 💘 🔥 ⛰️ 🔥
Very disorganized/bad security coming in too. I missed a lot of music because of it. Thousands of people did. It was honestly a giant cluster, but once you’re in there and the music’s playing, it all faaaaaaaaaades away...
Place holds 56,000. Average ballgame has about 35,000. This looks pretty full for a concert, it just has plenty of room to dance !!! So nice to see this is still happening 27 years after Jerry left us. “We always thought of ourselves as a dance band.” John Mayer is playing licks Jerry could only dream of, imho… Add in Jeff and Oteil and this is next level GD. With today’s sound systems cN hera every nuance. Amazing.
The dead don’t make me twirl around. They Defenently make me groove in a spacious way but its interesting how it makes people twirl. They have very circular and fluttery rhythm’s but yea not a criticism just interesting

These are NOT "spinners" of Spinner cult infamy. They are just regular Dead dancers. Typically, most of us would look for the best sound combined with the best space for full creative movement. It could vary show to show. Typically, front corners or back of floor at the big NFL stadium shows. Flattest possible lawn spots at summer sheds, (e.g. right where the lawn met the seats). And / or hallways for the spring & fall civic center venues or back of floor if you could get there. The best was when they put speakers in the halls for us!!! OR SPAC when they would place speakers on giant forklifts out on the far back lawn. THere'd be 150-300 dancers gathered around the cranes & you wouldn't even know where the stage was. Check out the TH-cam of the halls from Providence '87. Don Pearson of Ultrasound sound company put a camera out there to show the band what the hall / dancing scene looked like. IF you watch that, the real high energy boogie zone was down the hall on to the left. That just happened to be where he placed the camera where it wouldn't get knocked over.
