Ugh, the dreaded day came where I had to change the batteries on two air tags. Every time it is such a production. After a half hour I finally got one to work, and the other one is going directly in the trash. When this working one runs out of juice, it's going in the bin too. I have had enough. I have good batteries, but when I replace the cover, no beeping. Apple should be ashamed that they couldn't come up with something more easily maintained. I'm heading to Amazon to buy a tracker from a different company. Thank you for the video. I come back to this every time to make sure I am still sane.
Let me know which tracker you end up with. It’s a pain to change these batteries.
@@Plantodyssee I bought the Eufy wallet tracker (for my wallet) and so far it has done what I needed it to do. The good and bad part about these is the batteries are not replaceble by the consumer so I kind of feel guilty about destroying the earth and all. I'm sure my last remaining AirTag has already died. I think I should just try to be more deliberate where I put things so I don't lose them LOL.
I have pressed this thing and turned it at counterclockwise 100,000 times and it still won’t come off'!!!!!M!MM!!!!!!!!M!!!!!
These things are so cool. I wasn't sure how to do this process but its looks simple. We have one in a specially made collar for our dog. I too have noticed how Amazon will ship small items in a big box, such a waste. I saw in the news a couple of week ago that Amazon is investing heavily into a device that will make custom sized boxes for when they receive an order for any sized item. It was pretty to see how that works. They feed in the size of the item, that can also be automated if the dimensions are known, and it cranks out a box lickity split.
So why doesn’t Amazon create a line of interchangeable plastic boxes that can be picked up and reused for each delivery? They could charge a bit for rental of say five sizes for each Prime member. Then people just leave the empty ones out for pickup w another delivery. You are welcome, Amazon.
Tip: stick a tiny flat under the backside to help pop it open
I was not able to turn it back in place, the reason was I broke it when I open it (I pop it open with a small screw drive). The little plastic that hold it in place after the clockwise rotation was not there anymore so it was impossible to close it down.
Could not grip the airtag and twist off the cap. The whole thing keeps rotating.
Blue gloves worked great! I had no luck before👍.
Nice
Did it. Used sticky tape method. Made loop sticky side out. .. worked took a few tries. ,, Used same method to put cover back on
Nice! They can be a pain.
Mine was stuck really good - I took some cellophane tape and made a loop with the sticky side facing out and stuck it on - the cover came right off.
That’s so weird. I’ve done 5 of these now with little effort to remove cover.
@@DIYReid Took me forever to get the cover off and now I can't get it on. AHHHHHHHH
Thank you so much for this idea! Was really worried mine was stuck but this did the trick. Used some spare gaffer's tape I had in the house.
Does location stay the same when removed battery ?
What do you mean?
Much better than the directions from Apple Support.
I’ve been pushing on it and trying to turn counterclockwise, but it doesn’t turn.. and my battery is low and I can’t get it out…
The silver part is the part that moves.
@@DIYReid yeah I know I have been trying, but I can’t. I’m gonna have to find somebody that can and see exactly how they do it and I will repeat the process. But thank you much for your response. Very informative video.
Use rubber gloves (like the blue color ones)
Good recommendation.
@@Chezhiyar Didn't work for me.
Opening and closing the cover is a royal ass pain. I used a rubber gripper (used for opening jars) to help open and close it. Still not great but I was able to get it to work.
Jennifer, I am having the same problem. I swear I'm going to take a hammer to it. I can get the cover off, just can't get it back on. It goes on when no battery is in but once I get the batter in.....nope not closing. Royal ass pain is right!!!!!!!!
Thank you so much, Jennifer! This is what finally worked! I have limited hand strength but am also absent minded 😂
I have 2 AirTags bought at the same time. 1 shows low battery, so I’m replacing both. 1 changed easily. The second one I can’t get the cover to twist off. I’m going to the nearest Apple Store tomorrow to see if they can get it off, and whether they charge me. This doesn’t make me want to run out and buy any more AirTags.
Thank you! Im such a ditz when it comes to this sort of thing. You made it so easy for me.!! Yay! :)
If an AirTag is submerged in water for a prolonged period it would obviously damage the battery - but would it wipe the location history from my iphone?
Wow blue gloves worked like a charm nice thanks
Good idea.
Thanks!!! This worked for us!
Thanks. Better than the apple vid.
Thanks
Very helpful. Thank you!!
You’re welcome. Glad I could help.
Thanks very helpful.
You’re welcome.
Thank you!
You’re welcome. Hope it helped.
Rotating the cover to get the battery is stuck and won't turn
Make sure it’s in the groove.
you want to try that with one hand !
That would be tough.
Some batteries with a bitter coating to prevent children from swallowing will not work with AirTags. The coating does not allow proper contact on the negative side.
Battery still says it’s dead on find my
Are you sure you got the battery in there right?
what battery brand did you used
Energizer
Mine doesn’t come apart!
It has to.
Use rubber gloves (like the blue color ones)
You know, if you need a you tube to replace a battery then it is a bad design. How many you tubes are there for replacing a generic flash light battery.
You’d be surprised how many videos are out there on simple tasks.
@@DIYReid But this does not appear to be a simple task. It is IMPOSSIBLE.
lol doesn’t work, I’m going to the Apple Store to buy a new one. It’s not twisting
My hands keep slipping. Won’t turn
Try some rubber gloves.
Mine just alerted me that the battery was low.
this shit isnt budging
