What are the true names for the Paradox Pokemon? (Scarlet Version)

  • It's always been odd how the Paradox Pokemon introduced in Scarlet and Violet have had simple names consisting of just two words that aptly describe them in rather plain and dry wording. This video will go over some of the ideas to give Paradox Pokemon more traditional names

Sweet Mother of Goose, Jack. I wasn't expecting an explosion of views in just a week so I thank everyone here that watched the video and commented. I've been working on the Violet Paradox Pokemon video and been busy at work (pre-holiday crunch) and never checked back on this video until now. If you see this comment, then the Violet Paradox Pokemon video should be ready to release soon so look forward to that.
Once again, thank you to everyone here and if you enjoy Pokemon essay videos, make sure to Subscribe cause I plan to make a lot more of these.

Your question about Sandy Shocks brings up an interesting idea, they are called "paradox" Pokemon. Whose to say they are all ancestor Pokemon? What if some of them are what happens when a modern Pokemon gets thrown back in time and has to adapt and evolve to fit the landscape.

The way I understand it is its not like past or future but rather a parallel dimension? Not sure what else to call it. The easiest explanation is the bod lengdarys and cyclazar. They are all the same Pokémon but from different dimensions with factors that make them different, like all Pokémon are dinosaurs in one and the other they are like mass production robots for there world.

Also fun fact, their Paradox Names are Winged King and Iron Serpent, and it is heavily implied their given names are the result of a bootstrap paradox

Some names I have for my Paradox mons:
Sandy Shocks - Magnarex - from a prehistoric time, like a T-rex also, good name is also Magnedon
Scream Tail - Scrigglypuff - “squiggly + puff”
Flutter Mane - Misweavus - “weave” to outline the paradox name
Slither Wing - Volcrawlna - “crawl” to do with its mannerisms
Brute Bonnet - Ungaboongus from a vid ages ago was quite good, close second is Woogamonguss
Roaring Moon - Apexamence or Salamenace - “apex” due to being one of the superior Paradoxes, and “menace” retains the Salamence sound while adding dark context
Iron Bundle - Deltabird - “delta” keeping a similar sound to “Delibird” while adding a tech theme to the futuristic Mon
Iron Moth - Volcalamity - sounds sick, it’s type give me apocalyptic vibes
Iron Thorns - Tyraninator - like the Terminator, mech machine
Iron Jugulis - Hydrivon - like a hard drive, futuristic techy vibe
Iron Valiant (my favourite) - Galliance - keeps the “gal” part of its original third evos Gallade and Gardevoir, “illiance” referring to “alliance” to symbolise its own referring of looking like a fusion of the two, while also referencing “brilliance”, for its grand appearance/strength
Hope I can inspire or share these names with some others :))

I caught and called my Sandy Shocks "Magneshock" as it fits the naming of the Magnemite line and the word "shock" not only applies to the fact that its an electric pokemon but also a ground type as well which both typings can use "shock" in different ways. Shock as in aftershocks from an earthquake or shock as in a electrical shock. The name was very fitting and something I came up with on my own when i first caught it and I think it would be an appropriate traditional pokemon name for Sandy Shocks. Of all the paradox pokemon, Sandy Shocks is the one I use the most in my line ups and it's currently on my Pokemon Violet Version.

I've got to say, adding a beginning to the phrase foongus and amoonguss's names spell out for their ancestor is ingenious. I also like how "mismania" subtly alludes to the "mane" of its literal name while also making it sound like a serious troublemaker. I probably like "salugnarl" best because it includes an allusion to its brutal nature, but maybe spelling it without the G might work better.

Here's mine, with the new ones in mind, too.
Donmasta, the Great Tusk Pokemon. A simple swap of the word Mastodon, with an A at the end to also signify that this is the Master Donphan. Very similar to your idea. Originally, I thought Donmammoth would work, but it was a bit clunky.
Ungaboongus, the Brute Bonnet Pokemon. This name was... instinctual. It's pretty much the fan canon name for the Pokemon and I'm inclined to agree. Unga bunga is associated with caveman noises. There's not much to say.
Invasuff, the Scream Tail Pokemon. From the word "Invasive" or "Invader" and "Suffer". There was an ingame theory that Pokemon came from outer space, and that is supported though various Pokemon, like Deoxys and Beeheeyem. But if there was a Pokemon from a billion years ago, a time where the world had little land and life was primarily underwater, how could a complex cellular Pokemon like Scream Tail exist? By being an Alien who came to the infant Earth from the stars and became the planet's first Invasive Species. Also explains the Moon Stone evolution.
Larvalpha, the Slither Wing Pokemon. I have always seen this Pokemon as more Larvesta than Volcarona, and since it is the ancestor, it gets the honor of the first letter of the Greek alphabet.
Magnegroan, the Sandy Shocks Pokemon. Considering that this Pokemon would exist during the Ice Age and when the first humans existed, it was fitting to give it a name associated with Neanderthals: a groan. Magnegrunt wouldn't have worked because it would sound like a lackey, but groan rhymes with zone, like Magnezone, so it clicked a bit better.
Misdresaur, the Flutter Mane Pokemon. Pretty simple, Saur as in Dinosaur or Soar as in flying.
Salunarex, the Roaring Moon Pokemon. I had originally gone with Salasaurus, but after I saw that you implemented "lunar" with this mon, I had to do it too. This is in reference to the Tyrannosaurus Rex, which might not make total sense since it looks nothing like a T-Rex, but I do like to believe that this Pokemon was an Apex predator for its time as a master of air and land. Plus the name implies this is the Salamander Moon King, which is a pretty badass name.
Velocune, the Walking Wake Pokemon. Named after a Velociraptor and the last part of Suicune. It looks very raptor like and runs very fast and even on water. Nuff said.
Ancientei, the Gouging Fire Pokemon. Ancient and Entei mixed together. The words meshed too well not to do it.
Braikou, the Raging Bolt Pokemon. Brontosaurus overtaken by Raikou. Simple, but effective.

Absolutely adore the names Mastodonphan, Shrieklypuff, and Mismania. I attempted to rename the paradox mons myself at one point, but those names flow better than the ones i came up with.
Donfang (because fangs. Tho ironically, "don" also refers to fang)
Jigglyscruff (due to the extra hair)
Misbrujas (from "bruja", a spanish word that, nowadays, is synonymous with witches)
    My other names were:
Amoldguss (after the green mold-like stuff growing off Brute Bonnet's mushroom cap)
Magnedust (since sand and magnetic filings are pretty similar to a kind of dust)
Volcarumble (with the "rumble" referring both a volcano as well as their new Fighting type)

Think the answer to what they are is in the name, paradox, they themselves exist yet shouldn't. Its likely the machine used to capture them was going to an alternative timeline, not the past from a chronological perspective. They're literally "What If" pokemon who exist in a timeline when they could never have existed in the past, a paradox.

i mean. realistically, the more traditionally paradox mons would contain no part of their present counterparts names since koraidon and miraidon derive no part of their name from cyclizar, but eh. still a fun idea, and cool names!

i came up with the name Salamoonce for Roaring Moon a while back. Ungaboonguss fits Brute Bonnet. Koraidonphan for Great Tusk, Mismaneous for Flutter Mane, Magnephile for Sandy Shocks, Volcabrona for Slither Wing, and Gigglyruff for Scream Tail.

The names I had in mind were
Great Tusk - Mammophan. From Mammoth and Donphan.
Scream Tail - Scrigglyruff. From Scream, Jigglypuff, and Rough.
Brute Bonnet - Ubungoss. I got this from Twitter admittedly. I did not make this one up.
Flutter Mane - Pterreavous. From Pterosaur from its Dex entry, Terror, and Misdreavous.
Slither Wing - Larvestrong. Larvesta and Strong alluding to its fighting type. I do like yours a lot though.
Sandy Shocks - Magnerod. From the same naming conventions as the to Magnemite line and Lightning Rod because of its ground type.
    And
Roaring Moon - Salatzal. This was the name idea for Roaring Moon I've had in my head for a long time when the leaks came out. From Salamence and Quetzalcoatlus.
I have names for the Irons as well.
Iron Treads - Treadonphan. Just a mix between Iron Treads and Donphan.
Iron Bundle - Delidrone. Delibird and drone. Drones have been proposed for delivery use before.
Iron Hands - Mekahita. From Mecha (or Meka) and Makuhita.
Iron Jugulis - Hadroigon. From Hadron Collider, something that can make black holes, and Hydreigon.
Iron Moth - Solarona. Solar Panels and Volcarona.
    Iron Thorns - Metyranitar.
Metal, a play on Mecha Godzilla, and Tyranitar.
    And
    Iron Valiant - Galderoid.
    Gallade, Gardevoir, and Android.

    Salunamence
    Salamence + Luna
    Mismania
An homage to the basis (Misdreavus) + Mane
    Solcorona
Sol as in sun Corona in reference to a eclipse Corona & also referring to is basis (Volcarona)
I wanted to say Drakorona cuz it’s should be Bug/ Dragon not Bug/ Fighting

I have a few of my own fan-made names for the past paradox Pokemon:
Donhemoth (Donphan + Behemoth from biblical mythology, often said to have been in reference to an elephant)
Jigglypunk (Jigglypuff + Punk in refrence to the wild hairstyle and loud Punk Rock music)
Ungaboongus (Admittedly not my own, but it's too good not to use)
Faedreavus (Fae, a common term used for magical creatures + Misdreavus)
    Volkarate (Volcarona + Karate)
Magnetread (Magneton + Tread, as it walks on the ground rather than levitating via magnetism)
Sygymenace (Syzygy, another term used for an eclipse (both solar and lunar) + Menace + Salamence)
    SPOILERS FOR INDIGO DISC DLC
Suivenator (Suicune + Venator, a latin word used in many dinosaur names to mean 'Hunter' or 'Predator')
Sauraikou (Sauropod, the genus of dinosaurs known for their long necks + Raikou)
Einientei (Einiosaurus, a species of Ceratopsian dinosaur + Entei)

Putting the names aside, I feel like the writer for Scream Tail’s cult entry was exaggerating with the 1 billion years thing. That amount of years seems to be too much for a 3 foot tall (or taller) mammal-ish thing that screams. Just saying.
