I’ve lived in Florida for over 25 years & I was scared of them at first but not any longer. I’ve been within 5 feet of them twice when they were on land & once with my dog & both times they never bothered us. As long as you don’t swim in any water in Florida you’re safe. People golf with them around all the time.

I went to Disney World just before and not too long after this incident. The difference in signage around water was immense. Every 3 feet there are signs that warm of alligators and snakes around any body of water. I still saw someone standing in the water right next to a sign and a cast members come running over to them pointing to the sign. If anything I hope this incident gives awareness that wildlife should be taken seriously. I’m a huge Disney World fan but they did build on top of an alligators haven…

@Yohan Well it's true we humans are all living in lands that used to be the animals' place. The city I live in used to be a swamp as well. But we're talking about places like the the one this Disneyland is at, it is an area where dangerous animals like alligators live so there should be a better planning, so that both humans and animals won't bother each other. So this kind of case doesn't happen. I work at a wildlife rescue center so I deal with human-wildlife conflicts pretty often. And my country still faces this often because of bad development plannings are destroying forests and national parks everywhere! I don't blame people fully because some just still don't understand that what they're doing is harming the forests, they need to be given education about this issue more, which is what my organization also tries to do all the time. And this kind of news and headlines don't really help.

This story has stayed with me ever since it happened. This poor family got so much flack it was disgusting. Obviously if they could go back in time they would not splash around in that area and they are living with the pain and grief of losing a child the rest of their lives. There is NOTHING in this universe that could hurt more than that. Tons of people were doing the same thing with their kids and being in the water. We all make mistakes, it doesn’t mean people deserve to die because of them or that we shouldn’t have sympathy for them. I really hope they are doing “okay” - I know it’s silly to use that word. I was still working for Disney when this tragedy happened. I was a recreational cast member at The Contemporary Resort and there was one day I was walking between Contemporary and Bay Lake towers and I saw a child swimming in the lake and his dad just relaxing on a chair. I ran down and screamed at the kid to get out. The dad verbally fought me but when I yelled “there are snakes and alligators, he needs to get out” the kid came screaming out of the water. When I heard about the tragedy with Lane, the flashback of the kid I potentially saved came to my mind. I’m not blaming anyone in this, but they knew the signs were there as they were staying at that Resort and had most likely walked the property and they chose to ignore them, they let their sweet baby wade in knee deep water in the dark, unsupervised during fireworks. It was a tragedy that didn’t need to happen. Not only is there wildlife in those lakes but it’s beyond contaminated. Please everyone, use common sense. If you see a marked sign telling not to do something, just listen. It’s that simple.

Isn't the first time an alligator popped up in that resort and they did nothing. But yet it's the parents faults somehow. In a way yes in a way no. Go to Florida or Australia stay out the water. Especially the kids and at night time. Common sense will tell yous. Night is the worst time to be near water over there. No water is safe there except your shower and bath water. Unless you have a snake or spider then you're screwed.
It took for a wee boy to lose his life which could have been well avoided had proper signs been put in place. And had they done their jobs correctly when the first gator was spotted. Feeding gators one thing they tell you not to do cause they get comfortable around humans and we can't have that that's a problem waiting to happen. So folk blaming the parents I'm sorry but losing their son is punishment enough for them. They're just lucky they got their little boy back in 1 piece instead of several. Never going to understand how people go into a wild animals territory like that and then when I tragedy happens they blame the animal. Every single body of water including swimming pools do or can have alligators in them if you are in Florida. Whenever something like this happens they're so pressed about removing all of the alligators in the area to make sure they find that specific alligator that attacked it literally does not matter because any of them can do it at any time it doesn't matter if you find the exact one that actually did the attack or not if you've already found the boy's body then move on I understand that it provides some form of closure to the family if they find the animal and then they euthanize it and it also lost its life just like their child did but I mean come on people it's not going to make anything better.

@@lepermessiah2608 a good example of someone overusing the anonymity of the internet you are like most people on youtube a coward that loves to say stuff that is offensive and empathyless in real life though lol you are like any normal person knowing their limits thanks for giving me a great example to use for a school project about online anonymity and the people abusing it

As a tourist who went to florida. They need big signs. Not everyone will know there are alligators everywhere if they aren't from there. I had no idea until I was told not to stand near a lake

I think this is more to spread awareness and a story of a tragedy that happened to this boy and his family than a “OH WOW AN ALLIGATOR ATE A BOY!! WHAT A SURPRISE” kinda thing. Ya know whatta I mean?

If people say kill dogs because they killed a kid
      People will freak out
      But killing a gator
People will say the gator served it
      Am I surprised

@dragon quest fan lol what do u mean by RAW human? It eats everything raw and all it did was follow it's natural instincts to hunt and kill for food. I am not saying it's okay the little boy died and I hope he rests in peace but it's more of the parent's and the management's fault that this tragedy happened, not the gator's
