    Just ordered a 6 same model as in your video. I have several Esee knives, 5 models guess I’m a fan! Here in upstate NY we have plenty of birch and of course birch bark. It is an excellent fire starter. I take a piece of bark and loosely roll it then cut a 1/2 diameter green sapling about 10” long. Then I split one end and wedge the rolled bark into the split. I backcountry ski, hike in the winter and use these quick small fires that burn for maybe 3 to 5 minutes for finger warming and the smell is so nice too! With the 10” stick you can push it into the ground etc and build up the fire if desired.
    Certainly don’t need a esee 6 for my pack, but why not? After all it’s a collection!

    • @alphaomegasurvivalsupply6548
      @alphaomegasurvivalsupply6548  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nice! Great knife for sure and the coating holds up surprisingly well, the factory sheath is serviceable but a good kydex sheath is way better lol. Speaking of that....do you know why some models have kydex sheaths and some are injection molded plastic? The guys at esee claim the injection plastic holds up better in super cold conditions better than kydex, I dunno if I believe that fully or not lol but im sure they tested that theory lol.

    • @kakashi1234777
      @kakashi1234777 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@alphaomegasurvivalsupply6548 Im not sure why they made that choice. I’m going to guess it’s more of a cost issue since they use it on the esse5 and a few other models but I’m not 100% sure. All plastics tend to become more brittle at low temperatures. Here’s a study on kydex kydex.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/KYDEX_Technical_Brief_121-B_Minimum_Service_Temperature_of_KYDEX_Thermoplastic_Sheet.pdf i don’t know the stats of the injected molded plastic they use but if they say it’s better for Extrems cold I trust them. I definitely won’t be out in -20 to -30 degrees banging my sheath into things so I don’t view it as an issue. I also don’t see the esse 6 as a knife made for extremely low temp survival but idk for sure either. The esse guys seem to know what they are doing so I don’t value my opinion over them. I really think as a consumer they should have given people an option to upgrade to as now i have to get a 70 buck 3rd party accessory. Not to mad tho I was going to get new scales and a fire steel attachment anyways.

      @@alphaomegasurvivalsupply6548 ya I mainly like the look and the option for a locking mechanism on the kydex. I’m sure both work well. If I’m out in Extrems colds and it’s a survival situation I have a lot bigger worry’s than a sheath cracking XD.

    That was a great review and size comparison. I’m on the fence between the Esse 6 and the Tops Silent Hero. As far as grips go which would you say has the more comfortable handle?

    • @alphaomegasurvivalsupply6548
      @alphaomegasurvivalsupply6548  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hands down the Esee 6 lol, I have both of them and the silent hero is a great knife but the handle is a little thin for me. The Esee 6 with that newer 3D handle is excellent and you can get lots of aftermarket scales and sheaths etc for it too, the silent hero has screws too so the scales could be changed but I don't know that anyone makes them I havent really looked. If you do really want the silent hero tho it's not a bad knife at all, it just doesn't fit my hand as I'd like it to yanno. Mine was actually one of their demo models so it went to all the shows and events to show people from a few years ago, I would be willing to let mine go cuz I never use it and it's in the exact same condition as it was shown in my review and if your interested my email is in the description box. Would you compare the 6HM and the 6 for comfort, wood work etc.?

    • @alphaomegasurvivalsupply6548
      @alphaomegasurvivalsupply6548  ปีที่แล้ว

      Its a tough call lol they both feel good, but I think for long durations of wood working the HM might feel better. The broomstick style handle tends to be more comfortable for long durations, it can also be more accommodating of various grips with its neutral profile. Now thats not to say the 3d handles aren't good or are better, personally I would probably go with the regular 6 with the 3d handles for general purpose. If you know that your going to be doing mostly wood working you might consider the 4HM, I really like the size of it for that and I got the 6HM because of that. It's kind of hard to fully answer your question in a non biased fashion 🤣 but I think that's what you want lol, definitely don't get the older blocky scales unless your getting a smokin deal. Get the regular 6 with 3d handles for general purpose, check out the 4HM or 6HM for more woodworking. No matter the choice I dont think you'll be let down, it just comes down to how each works for you in your specific use case. If it makes you feel any better I still have all these models in my collection 🤣 but if you have further questions ill do my best to answer them for you. 👍
