- April 17, 1977 - Trailing by four at the half, Rick Barry and the Golden State Warriors found themselves in a precarious position in the deciding game of their first round, best-of-three series. Alas, it was a monstrous, bench-clearing brawl that seemed to change their fortunes. Midway through the third quarter, Eric Money and Charles Dudley exchanged punches and kicks in a fracas that soon spilled over into the stands, where a fan sucker punched M.L. Carr and was subsequently attacked by Bob Lanier.
When the dust finally settled, the Warriors appeared energized, embarking on a Rick Barry-infused 14-4 run, turning the tide of the ballgame once and for all. The Warriors eliminated the Pistons 109-102.
Barry finished with 35 points in the one, though only a portion of his second half onslaught is included above (on account of being the only footage available).
As a final note, on account of the NBA's initial east coast origins, the Detroit Pistons were considered a western conference team until the conclusion of the 1977-78 season.

Rick berry was ahead of his time, his jumpshot is beautiful.
Watching these old films of NBA games is a wonderful reminder of how great Rick Barry was and also a reminder of how underrated he was. I began watching NBA games back in the late 1950s, and as a shooter and as a passer there just aren't that many players that are as good as Barry was. From the forward position, the two best passers in NBA history are Rick Barry and Larry Bird. Rick Barry never did get his due and that is a shame.
Rick barry is super, so underrated
not really. just a little forgotten like a lot of pre-magic-bird players not named Wilt or Russell.
This is far more entertaining than today's NBA crap.
I think they were better ballplayers
Yes. I was 12 years old at the time and went to some of the home playoff games in Detroit. There was an intensity to these series, and the quality of play was much better. Each trip down the court was contested--not just players jacking threes all night.
@@jeffmax2941today's are better by alot
@gohanblack3355 Because shooting 3's all night and missing 64 percent is the acme of excitement? Why are the ratings in the crapper?
Today's game is an embarrassment. Traveling, illegal screens, double dribbling, hardly any defense, pathetic!
People don't realize but they weren't allowed to do all these crazy carries hezys and double hops because it was against the rules not because they couldn't do it skill wise if curry played at that time with the moves allowed now he'd get vialotions left and right
yup but the bronsexuals no matter what you tell them about violations and or etc will always think lebron would average 60 points a game on 100% shooting because nobody would have been quick enough to catch him once hes going full speed up the court..... Layup city.. right bronsexuals??
Your right
Rick Barrry pure scoring...NBA don't care about rules they just want money to make expansion teams, nike movies.
Michael jordan entire career he carrying .palming.& not one violation call
@@zeuris747yeah Jordan sure traveled a lot.. true
My sentiments, exactly. Great, astute, comment.
He was a great all-around player.
Cool seeing 3 members of 1981 nba champion Celtics on same floor, chief, mlCarr, Chris Ford RIP....celtic fan. Barry was a great player
I agree with all. Good comment.
Seeing Parish with the Warriors really is a time warp. The Celtics traded the number 1 overall drat pick and another 1st round pick to Golden State in 1980 before the draft, they got Parish and the 3rd pick in return, they used the 3rd pick for McHale....what a trade!!!!
One of several horendes trades made by the Warriors in the 70’s.
Barry the off the backboard to himself for the lay up originator.
Rick Barry was the best forward in the NBA. 💪👏

Cooking an entire meal on the floor !
Barry is so on target with his shot that some of us fail to notice the deflections and tenacious on-ball defense.
I was at this game leading cheers in the stands. lol. Referees were on strike. Inexperienced sub refs had a hard time maintaining control.
Rick was great.
My dad says he was basically the MJ and Lebron of his era - but he was so disliked by everyone that his pretty amazing accomplishments are now lost
Style wise Caitlin Clark.
He was disliked by the people who liked him. Lol But I always found his candor refreshing.
Best player to ever come out of New Jersey great Rick barry
Barry was just sensational in this game, what a shot and what a passer. One of the all time greats. The Warriors should have kept him and Parrish.
Rick Barry = Scoring Machine
Barry could light it up back in the day. Top 5 SF all time. Wondeŕ what his PPG would be if he had the 3 ball.
Bird came along and played much like Barry, only Bird had slightly, better long term stats. Both were fun to watch. Golden State changed management and Parish got a bit disgusted with them when they traded Barry. Robert said he was happy to go to Boston, after that.
Damn, grandma freethrow guy after winning the championship 2 years before. Cooks these pistons.
Robert Parrish probably doesn’t get discussed enough - played 21 years. I almost did a double take seeing him here as a rookie.
The end of the Pistons' brief run of respectability in the 70s ended as it always did, with mediocre players clanking shots that should have gone to Bob Lanier.
Who has a full game of this
Robert Parish the rookie!
Rookie Robert Parish? I thought he started pre-Columbus?
the toupee years.
*Rick Baldy leading the charge 😁😁*
I think it was better. All back then
Is that the M L Carr…..the towel waver from the Celtics….
Who are the announcers?
Theu said in the broadcast....Jerry Gross and Lenny Wilkens
