Never left food or dirty dishes out, trash was thrown out daily and kept closed, non-refrigerated food kept in tightly sealed containers. But the roaches were EVERYWHERE. Inside my fridge, ate holes into cereal boxes, crawling inside my microwave. I was afraid to eat in my own house. Im in the south. One evening i even saw a giant roach the size of my hand hanging on the side of my neighbors house. i had to buy boric acid and spread that DAILY for a week before I saw a difference. Almost 4 months later and not a single roach since, PTL. It was hell dealing with this in a house, i can't imagine being in an apartment building, where the rats have plenty of places to hide.
For all the people posting about cats.... that would never work. I live on a horse farm and we have several barn cats. If they saw rats that size, they would run for the hills. Also, people who live in government housing are not allowed to have pet. Except for rats. They can have rats.
How about buying some glue traps, helping seal the holes in the apartment where you live and keeping the place clean? A little self'initiative would go a long way here. This rat infestation comes from the tenants them selves that leave their garage in the hallways and the staircases for the rats to come in the building to feed on.
There's an electric trap you can buy for like $40. It shocks them and kills them instantly. I had a mouse problem when I fist moved into my house. We live in the woods so it's no wonder. I put one of those under the sink and there was a dead mouse in there every hour. All you had to do was dump it out and put the trap back in place. I got a few cats to live outside and there haven't been any mouse problems in the 6 years that I've lived here.
Fair warning, rats are actually pretty smart, a lot of the younger rats are the ones that fall for the traps, but older ones(the ones producing the babies), are actually smart enough to understand it's a trap. Also, most cats are actually afraid of rats. Your best bet is moving out or calling an exterminator.
I get freaked out by 1 rat in the house, but 5 in the kitchen in the middle of the day? That's insane. If there are 5 willing to come out in the daytime, there are probably 100 more that will come out at night.

When I was driving through the city I saw people on one side of the trash and the rats on the other side of the trash and,nobody jumped or afraid You can tell that it was normal to them. Im a truck driver and I had a load to the Bronx. When I was driving through the city I saw people on one side of the trash and the rats on the other side of the trash and,nobody jumped or afraid You can tell that it was normal to them. I guess😳 but other than that the Bronx was nice and the people were to.😁
Why dont you keep your appartments clean and seal up the holes you can.
