    We had this exact same noise happening in Manchester UK, it could be heard for miles. It turned out to be a resonance in a brise soleil type of feature on top of the Hilton Beetham skyscraper (caused by wind). They eventually fixed it by adding additional structure to it. The noise actually sounded like it was coming through the ground.

    I've encountered this noise before as an industrial HVAC technician. We completed an upgrade on a schools boiler plant last year and shortly there after neighbors began to complain about a harmonic hum. It ended up being the exhaust off of the new high efficiency boilers we installed. If the exhaust venting is too short mufflers need to be installed. After the mufflers were installed the noise went away.

    This also happened in San Francisco a couple years ago . It occurred after adding a new feature on the Golden Gate bridge. Depending on the direction of the wind and wind speed, the noise would be created which was audible for miles in each direction. It would come and go much like this instance. In this instance, I would think it's possible that this could also be the result of a new architectural feature of sorts on a building or a bridge 🤔. The Golden Gate bridge issue was eventually mitigated after over a year of spooky/eerie sounds heard throughout all of the surrounding cities. The issue gained so much traction that an artist created a musical album with the sounds, which is on Spotify to this day.

Literally TONS for conduit and plumbing (call the Mario Brothers!) and subways and utilities and maintenance, etc. Public works. If I had to guess, it's probably something like a big cistern as part of the sewers and when it drains or fills the displaced air moves through some ventilation piping to make the noise. It's the same principle as air moving through an organ pipe to cause noise. If you've ever worked with big industrial tanks or on a ship with ballast tanks, you know the displaced air moving through pipes can make particular whistles or hums when the fluid is being moved about.

    Here’s a suggestion. Using a parabolic sound collector, point it in the direction of the strongest signal re the sound. Plot that direction on a plan of the whole city with a line for each reading. Continue detecting and plotting the direction from a multiple of points around the city. Gradually a radial direction should emerge, with some single or general point of origin. This will take a lot of plotting because of echos off hard surfaces around the city, but gradually a source will emerge.

    We have a similar issue in our town…a pulsing wave of sound being emitted from turbines on the roof of a local manufacturing plant. They finger going around the crystal glass describes it quite nicely. They are “trying” to fix it but it has been nearly 2 years-often keeps me awake at night. Good luck getting to the bottom of the issue. Some neighbors have purchased white noise devices to help them sleep. The wind direction and air density also factor into the intensity of the sound.

Normal houses all around, it could be the problem!

Government should be by and for its Citizens, but we made this problem ourselves and until Profit is removed from Government we will live with this and it WILL get worse until we are nothing but cogs in the machine. I recall, in another state, there was a loud deep humming sound that only 2-3 people on the block would hear throughout the night, and sometimes in the day. No one, and none of the utility companies, nor police, nor firemen knew what it was. So the neighbors who heard it began to look at what they had in common. And what that was was a satellite antenna on their roofs, that was picking up signals from some kind of radar device that a common neighbor, who's house they surrounded, must have had. (A device such as a police radio radar.) But in the case of an entire neighborhood hearing it, it could have to do with either a new cable system, or the wind against metal in a new construction. And the mystery goes on! 🤔

    I lived in an apartment in Bedford, TX and I heard the same humming sound. I wasn’t by a large factory or plant. I noticed it mainly in the colder months. The only thing I could think of that it might’ve been was something to do with heaters. I did live by a strip mall. I decided the sound had to have something to do with that building. That was where I would say it was coming from. It was really hard to pin point an area it resinated from. It was the exact same deep hum. It would come and go.

      Proof:
      In the Book of Revelation, seven trumpets are sounded, one at a time, to cue apocalyptic events seen by John of Patmos (Revelation 1:9) in his vision (Revelation 1:1). The seven trumpets are sounded by seven angels and the events that follow are described in detail from Revelation Chapters 8 to 11. According to Revelation 8:1-2 the angels sound these trumpets after the breaking of the seventh seal. These seals secured the apocalyptic document held in the right hand of Him who sits on the throne.[1] The trumpets are referred to in Koine Greek as σάλπιγξ (sálpinx, salpinx); this was a straight, narrow bronze tube with a mouthpiece of bone and a bell; they do not resemble modern trumpets. The final three trumpets are sometimes called the "woe trumpets".[2]

If you had the equipment on multiple vehicles it should be easy to pinpoint the source rather quickly. I’m not sure how much other city noises would interfere, but as they are not a constant, it should be easy to separate those from the constant oscillating hum when looking at the readings.

Only seems to happen at night and goes till sunrise. At first we suspected steam being vented by one of the paper mills, those mills are no longer open now and the noise still happens. When it’s far more quiet at night and the cable equalizes it’s spinning it sustains a constant resonance.

    Honestly this could happen whenever there there a long, hollow tubes planted into a solid base- piping into the ground, construction sites, on rooftops, etc. where wind gusts can create a harmonic resonance as it blows across the tubular structure. The pipe or tube begins to vibrate as it’s fixed on one end and open on the other. You hear this with metal because it has a relatively low natural resonant frequency characteristic to the longer length of pipe- longer wavelength- lower pitch capable of amplifying and traveling over long distances.

Went on for about a year and us locals were searching everywhere for the source but never found it. That was over ten years ago and I can still remember exactly how it sounded, and that was definitely it. A neighbor of ours swore it had something to do with the magnetic field around the earth being somehow disrupted. We never found out if that was it, but it was the most plausible thing we could think of, so we went with it.

  • @mikeh2520
    @mikeh2520 2 ปีที่แล้ว +70

    Most likely the wind is vibrating something to resonance. Take not of the wind speed and direction when you hear it. You can then get an idea of when to expect it based on weather forecasts. Using a directional parabolic microphone from a high place would help to get a fix on the direction it is coming from. Do that from multiple places and you will triangulate a location of the sound. The Weather Underground website has historical weather including wind direction and speed on particular dates and times so that can be of use to figure out what the wind was doing last time you heard it. The Golden Gate bridge makes a sound in certain wind conditions too and people are complaining about that as well.

    I live about 1 km from a harbour with a number of sailing boats with high masts. Every time when there are storms you would easily hear the vibration sound the wind makes by way of these sailboats, even inside with shut windows. It doesn't need to be very stormy weather to generate the sound.
    I suspect this could either be from a harbour with many sailboats or from high-rise buildings having large poles or antennas on top of them. Being in a high position means of course it's windier. 🤔
