    British wax jackets are the best. They look very cool when worn with the right clothing. Barbour is worn as everything from shooting to street wear.

      This looks cooler than any English wax jacket I've seen, and I'm English. That's exactly why I'll buy this rather than join the Barbour brigade like the rest of my workplace.

  • @stevek5909
    @stevek5909 2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

    I agree with most of the other commenters . The XL looks much better to my eyes. I'm an older viewer, so maybe i never switched to what you are calling a " modern fit " . To me, it looks like a modern " doesn't fit " . I always thought a jacket should be functional as well as comfortable, and it always seems that a tight jacket would be uncomfortable. Of course, I have the added personal issue of my weight being distributed a little differently- 6 ft tall and 195lbs, with broad shoulders , a definite stomach, and very thin from the waist down. I probably couldn't even button the large in this jacket.

    I agree with Ryan -- I have the Medium in tan already and have struggled to accept that it is meant to be a slimmer fit. I wanted to order a size up until I watched you make a good case for the traditional, intended sizing. So I am now getting the Medium in green. BTW, the Schott bombers are great too and so much more comfortable... but the RGT Ridgeline really make a statement. Thx!

    I’d recommend trying the Barbour Lightweight Ashby.
    It’s not as stuffy as other Barbours, it’s lighter weight on account of being light weight, and it’s neither too long or boxy, I’m a sort guy, 5’8”, and it’s not long on me at all.
    It could be the Barbour that changes your mind about Barbours.

  • @davidodysseus2808
    @davidodysseus2808 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    XL looks significantly better on you. The L billows out around your chest because it's becoming too taut, where the XL has an uninterrupted silhouette, which as we move away from too tight clothing, and now the herd is moving to too baggy, what is ideal is the middle, proper fitting silhouettes. If your jeans are too tight and show your keys or cell phone, you need to get a looser fit, and if you can't button up a jacket without stress on the buttons, again, you need a larger fit. We seem to be from the same generation, and I think you, like me, learned to go down too far in sizing thinking it made for a more stylish fit. Now, I think it's about right fit, which is ultimately most classic and timeless.
    Also, always tuck in your shirt with a jacket like this, be it t shirt or button up, this will create the separation the jacket it meant to cause.

    SIZING: OK here's the much simplified version of what I SHOULD have said:
    The L looks worse buttoned up but better unbuttoned.
    The XL looks better buttoned up but worse unbuttoned.
    Basically the material's too stiff, I think, to be worn big - the XL billows out when unbuttoned (eg 07:11) and makes me look rounder than I am. It's less flattering *when unbuttoned.* Really should have done more side by side comparisons of buttoned vs unbuttoned, sorry!

      Nick, just like your buddy modified his by ordering extra canvas, you should have the XL tailored to fit. $300 for a jacket that’s too small to button? That’s settling. Don’t settle. OTR garments rarely fit correctly and if they do you must be slim, non athletic (that’s no way to live). Clothes need to fit you and not the other way around. The XL looks good on you AND is 100% functional. Take it to a tailor and it will perfect on you and still be 100% functional.

    • @scootermcgoot
      @scootermcgoot 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am also a similar size than you and lift too much at the gym. As a result the large supply jacket was a bit too tight in the shoulders and chest and a little short in the sleeves. And agreed with you that the XL was a bit baggy. I am wondering though if the XL would look better as the materials age and the wax settled. It's very stiff in the beginning so maybe it looks better after a lot of wear. any thoughts?

    • @Stridewise

    I find it kinda funny that you bash on Barbour jackets for being boxy, not fitting, weird looking garments that Americans don´t like and that are more expensive (I exaggerate just a bit and BTW Barbour has numerous different lines that are more trim fitting, including the International line). Next topic: The RT jacket doesn´t really fit and is a heritage jacket in which you can´t work... Oh and it´s unlined and has a worthless button hole, apart from the buttons that pull apart if the rest of the jacket fits in a modern way...And price: 295$ versus 329€ (for a lined, fully functional jacket that is the Barbour in Europe).
    Yes, the RT jacket looks damn cool, but only in L and that comes at a price of not being able to fully use it.
    With all due respect to your excellent channel and work, which I highly appreciate to follow: Your review is slightly biased to my opinion and I feel like you used to be more objective (unless I have overseen sarcasm in the video).

    Wait, your actual chest measurement was 44.5? or your ideal garment measurement? Having trouble seeing how you'd button up the L if it was 43"
    Edit: Also, I want to comment and say I HATE how RGT developed the sizing on this jacket.

    Guy ravs about RGT says bond doesn't like Barbour... all while not noticing that pretty much the jacket MOST featured in No Time To Die is a Barbour... and arguably the most celebrated jacket in Craig's films is a Barbour featured in Skyfall. anyway, the jacket looks better buttoned up if you undo the bottom one. Otherwise it gives you the appearance of a belly that you probably don't have.

      @@Stridewise We seem to have similar body types as I have the same issue. I think it has to do with our broad shoulders and larger chest creating the drape type scenario (I have a 44” chest). A frustrating trade off being stuck between two sizes.
      Another annoying aspect is finding the perfect T shirt where the arms are not too short and the belly section slim enough so it does not “skirt out” as I like to call it, making me look like I have a beer belly. 🤦🏻‍♂️

Barbour Belstaff is Absolutely the most Classic One can buy and looks best in all diffrent settings. They got the most aawsome Classic Models and Yah you where entirely wrong in what you said about them sorry to say. And Yah the bigger size jacket this model is the size for you the Other one looks like stuffed sausage and Even if you dont wear it closed its ridicilous to buy a jacket You cant close. Great, comprehensive review. I have a Barbour waxed jacket. It's like a sauna in any weather : summer - it's unwearable. In winter, with woollen jumper under it, it still retains all the heat/ moisture of your body. The sizing on this thing would also worry me. The jacket worn in this video just looks a size too small. No movement in the shoulder/ arm area. It currently costs 390euro here in Europe. If it was half the price, it might be worth it. But at that very premium price for what is, after all, a lightweight cotton casual jacket, the value just isn't there. Find for a Bond production. Not fine for real world living

    I hate to break it too you but the XL fits you perfect and the L is clearly too small, even unbuttoned it's too small. If you were to bend down to pick something up you'd literally get stuck (I'm assuming you couldn't burst this material).

    • @Stridewise
      @Stridewise  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You know the comments are about 60/40 in favor of too small but the thing is the XL billows a lot when unbuttoned because the fabric is so stiff. I think XL tailored might have been perfect even though it felt long in the sleeves

    • @Stridewise

      I have done this to fix old leather jackets, oil, (skip this part) put in a bag or pillow case, tie shut with a shoe lace. Maybe from a tennis shoe. Add a couple of tennis shoes, old; into the dryer. Tumble as needed. Probably will work faster than three years of wear. Have fun in whatever you do, Dimi.

  • @Bad_At_Parties
    @Bad_At_Parties 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    What really sinks the jacket for me, and why I'd never wear it, is the lack of function. It looks cool here and there, yeah, but the fit is horrible and the pockets that should be designed to help you carry things don't really do that. At the end of the day it's riding on its look more than anything, and it just doesn't look cool enough for me to bother with it. I love waxed canvas and its texture, but don't like its application here overall. I also find that there is a phenomenon where everything looks better on Daniel Craig than anyone else that tries to wear his same style items, so what looks great for him can fall flat in other contexts.

    It's an odd decision to use the same colored thread for the Sashiko version. Since Sashiko is basically reinforced embroidery. The added threading usually in well known designs within the art are done in white so you see the art.

    • @Stridewise
      @Stridewise  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is unlined but I don't feel super waxy on my skin to be honest, some brands incorporate the wax all the way through the canvas so it's on your skin but this one just has it on the outside
