    Thank you! My 2003 CRV starts again. I struggled for an hour with the small screw on the back of the ignition switch until I ran to the hardware store and got a long, thin, phillips head screwdriver. Came right out.

    I just diagnosed my problem. It was fuel pump fuse. It's in area of driver's right knee. Car didn't have check engine light, did crank and produced relay knocking noise in the dashboard which disappeared after I run the engine.

  • @PCman50

    This is excellent. I'm not sure if my starter is bad or the ignition switch. For me takes a couple turns before the car cranks and no other sounds. But once started the car continues to run I'll try to listen to the buzz you described.

    • @Ceez542
      @Ceez542 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Did it work?

    • @PCman50
      @PCman50 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@Ceez542 Actually replacing the ignition switch seemed to resolve my problem. Well at least for about 30 days. Then the CR-V stopped starting again 30 days later. This time I'm stranded and had to have it towed to my mechanic that replaced the starter. It's now been working perfectly for a year now. I told him my story of how it worked after I replaced the switch. He didn't buy into my story. So I have no proof here except maybe it needed both replaced. Since the switch is only about $12 if say it's an option to try first. But in my case I spent about $800 getting the starter replaced and the problem was resolved.
      My Honda CR-V is now 21 years old with 126k miles. Still runs but now the AC is out yet again and yet another oil leak. But I only paid $4,000 for this car with 98,000 miles about 7 years ago and have spent about $4,000 in repairs over the 7 years of ownership. So I guess for a reliable still nice looking 21 year old Honda CR-V has been worth the investment. I'm retired and can't afford a new car right now anyway so I'm planning on keeping it a few more years even it now needs an AC repair at $800 and yet another oil leak of unknown cost. While these vehicles are known to last 200,000-300,000 miles I do think they become more problematic with simply age. 126k miles is nothing on a 10 year old Honda, but at 21 years age it starts to compound the possibility of it running reliably for another 100,000 miles.
      But can't afford to replace it. And I'm quite appreciative of the durability of such a well built 21 year old vehicle.

    • @Ceez542
      @Ceez542 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PCman50 Yeah your right about the age of the of the vehicle. My CR-V is at 130k miles and I have had the AC compressor done on it too at 115k miles. That's a common problem with these cars. For $800 I would fix the AC. I've had some places try charging me $1.2k but got it done for $875. Now I gotta get this starter fixed

    • @Ceez542
      @Ceez542 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@PCman50 funny enough I got the vehicle at around 90k miles too 4 years ago for 2.8k It's definitely been worth the money but you gotta replace the the stuff that goes bad over time like struts, engine mounts, spark plugs, Alternator, etc. Still considering how much car payments are with full coverage I am sticking with it.

    • @PCman50
      @PCman50 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Ceez542 Yes in reality I had already paid around $1,000 to replace the compressor and labor, but now a year later the AC died and they are saying it's the condenser inside the car now so another $800 with labor. Ugh
      I've easily spent a $1,000 on various oil leaks over the last few years. Likely age has much to do with that.

    • @sigor2011
      @sigor2011  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      This video is just for the module, so not in this case. If you swap rhe whole ignition, it depends. By default, yes. I did not. You can transfer old chip key recognition parts from the old lock to the new. If you are getting aftermarket keys, they often have a door with the chip inside. Remove the chip, carefully cut out the chip from oem key and put into the new key. Cutting it out will destroy the head of the old key. Worked fine for me but I did not make a video on that.

Had to use an offset drive. 45 minute job no problems. Also out of curiosity took part apart and found that contacts were burnt from so much use so contact wasn't always being made. 125k miles on car with a lot of short trips. Could be defective cylinder. I had to replace mine after as key got stuck. Plenty replacement online available. Just swap the key chip from old key to new as that will save the need for programming.

    • @okbye1
      @okbye1 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@sigor2011 thank you, was going to ask you about the key programming. I actually bought the cylinder but took it back because it looked like a returned item. So starting by doing the switch first. I have replaced the starter, dual cam switch solenoid. Rear struts have been replaced and now something in the front drive seems like its about to go out. And the ride in that Element is SO noisy (over rough asphalt), cant say I'm impressed with my friends Honda Element, but she loves it. 200k on it.

      @@okbye1 ya. Key programming is a bitch but aftermarket keys have a little door you can open with a chip inside, at least the one I had. As long as you have two keys oem, carefully dig the chip out and swap into new. I got a kit with all the door locks as well to match the new key and swapped them. Not too hard.

    • @sigor2011
      @sigor2011  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If money is not super tight, can buy sound insulation, raise fron lt carpet and remove the door panels. Add the 80mill insulation in that space and will make car a bit better to ride in. Material cost is about $100.

      Nothing wrong visible external. Just would make a buzzing sound and not start. Honda also has bad Ignition tumblers. So if you can't turn key at all, need to replace whole lock cylinder. I had to do it few month after this video. Was not too expensive as I reused old keys by swapping old resistors into new keys.
